Wow, goddamn, just finished watching this movie, and what can I say? this was amazing, masterful, cheff kiss, phenomenal, I'm out of words. This movie had everything in it: sexiness, hype, awesome animation, craziness, lots, and lots of explosions, etc... you name it, it has the usual crazy shit that you will expect from Chainsaw Man, and boy, it was GOOD!

Now I finally understand why this movie is highly rated here. I already read the manga, but this movie made everything better.

Did Makima also order angel devil to be absolutely fucking useless during the big fight? Anyway the action scenes were long and really good visually but the setup damn the first 40 mins was a boring snoozefest sol romcom tf was that.

Finally got round to watching it!
What can I say, as someone whose read the manga so knew what to expect...watching Reze take that final walk to try and meet Denji is just so sad, yet it makes such a great emotional ending for the movie... ;(
Fights were on another level, but that's something we've come to expect with MAPPA being the ones behind making it.
Not sure when we'll get the next adaptation since there was a 3 year gap between this and s1, but it at least seems like with MAPPA they'll make it worth the wait.

Based on thirteen manga chapters (chap. 39-52), the movie unfolds a tragedy that feels unavoidable from the start. Its story is a collision between warmth and fate—where love appears briefly, and love stays as memory. This is when Fujimoto-sensei shows restraint and cruelty.

The movie demands a theatrical experience. This time, MAPPA’s visuals use bold outlines and higher contrast, marking a clear difference from the preceding show. It may split some viewers, but somehow the choice works: this key arc needs to feel distinct. The cinematography is sharper, the pacing more deliberate, and the sound design deeply immersive. Paired with Kenshi Yonezu’s melancholic "IRIS OUT" and "JANE DOE," alongside Kensuke Ushio’s subtle background score, the emotional weight never fades.

Reze herself, is the core of this arc, which makes this story rather unforgettable, don't you think so? Her brightness feels almost unreal—playful, teasing, and painfully human. Yet beneath that warmth, lies a life shaped by exploitation and violence, mirroring Denji more than any other character. Denji, who remained tied emotionally to Makima, slowly experiences affection without any orders or duty for the first time. His choice to let Reze go later on becomes the movie’s most devastating act of love.

In the end, the Reze Arc isn't just about romance between Denji and Reze—it's about sincerity in a world that punishes it. Denji learns that real love is neither about possession nor reward.

A Love Story That Was Never Allowed to Live

Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc isn't painful because it's shocking, but rather because it's honest. In just thirteen chapters’ worth of story, the movie delivers a tragedy that feels inevitable from the very beginning. Reze’s arc is a quiet collision between warmth and fate—where love exists briefly, not to be fulfilled, but to be remembered. This is Fujimoto at his most restrained and most merciless.

The film demands a theatrical experience. MAPPA’s visual direction leans into bold outlines and higher contrast, marking a clear stylistic departure from the TV series. It may divide some viewers, but the choice works: this arc needs to feel distinct. The cinematography is sharper, the pacing more deliberate, and the sound design deeply immersive. Paired with Kenshi Yonezu’s melancholic “IRIS OUT” and “JANE DOE,” alongside Kensuke Ushio’s suffocatingly subtle background score, the emotional weight never lets up.

Reze herself is what makes this arc unforgettable. Her brightness feels almost unreal—playful, teasing, and painfully human. Yet beneath that warmth lies a life shaped by exploitation and violence, mirroring Denji more than anyone before her. Denji, still emotionally bound to Makima, slowly experiences affection without command or obligation for the first time. When everything collapses, his choice to let Reze go becomes the movie’s most devastating act of love.

Ultimately, the Reze Arc isn't about romance—it is about sincerity in a world that punishes it. Denji learns that real love is not possession nor reward but a fleeting connection that leaves a permanent scar. It’s a story that doesn’t ask what could have been but quietly reminds us why it never was.

wow it’s honestly hard to believe it’s been three years since s1 aired. the movie turned out to be something i didn’t expect at all in the best way possible. the animation quality completely surpassed s1, which really makes me question how big the budget was this time around. the fight between the bomb devil and the rest, especially chainsaw man, was absolutely insane. the shock value was on point and kept me glued to the screen the entire time.

as for the non fighting scenes, i still prefer how the emotions are portrayed in the manga since they hit a bit deeper there, but the movie still did a solid job conveying them. overall this is definitely something worth experiencing in the cinema, and the following arcs are going to be even better. i really hope the significant parts at least get this same movie level of treatment.

ost was chef's kiss btw~

I don’t really understand people who hate this anime. It might be one of the best new-gen animanga. Yeah, it’s weird, and yeah, really weird xd, but in its own strange way it can show some serious things. It even has a few complex characters.

I think it’s very entertaining and emotional, and the visuals are just beautiful together with the music. You can really feel that a lot of time and money went into it.

@Magpareddi Terribly sorry if my writing yesterday sounded rather AI-generated. Lowkey, Google Translate might still be kinda stiff, huh? This time, I've spent ±40 minutes rewriting and editing everything while still retaining a few sentences that perfectly conveyed what I wanted to say. Oh yeah, just wanted you to know, I took some sentences directly from several local YouTuber reviews. What do you think about it now?

it had fantastic visuals an amazing production values, the action is absolutely insane to the point that at times it can be a bit difficult to follow, the fight coreography is also impressive but the film does suffer from a slow start an even though the story is just good enough to keep one entertained it isnt particularly interesting

Wasted first half hour, who cares about a kiss?
Why Makima doesn't deal with the strongest so all the people would not die, is beyond me, suppose it wouldn't last long though.

That was a phenomenal film! It took me some time to finally sit down and watch it, but it was very worth it.

I feel horrible for both Denji and Reze. Even though Reze’s feelings might have been fake at first, I think those feelings might have become real unintentionally along the way.

Denji and Beam made a fantastic duo, and I really enjoyed every scene they were in together. I hope we see more of them in future seasons.

As every other "modern" action anime movie... it suffers from doing too much. The movements and scene cuts are just too much. It's annoying. I wish they'd do it more like a normal high quality anime instead.
"Less is more" would apply here.

MAPPA did a great job animating the Reze Arc. When I first heard it was going to be a movie instead of a second season, I was a little bummed out, but I guess the story would have been divided very badly if they had made it into a second season. I hope MAPPA continues the full story. I know I’ll be watching it.

Chainsaw Man has never been a favorite of mine, neither the anime nor the manga and this movie didn't move me in the positive. First half discount 'romance' that was obviously fake and the second was nonstop nonsensical action that had my eyes starting to glaze over from all the stuff happening. Power is what saves CSM for me and she is barely in this arc. I'm clearly in the minority but for me this film is a passable 6/10, notable only for the animation

What a great adaption! Denji met a new girl Reze and hid inside a telephone booth to shield the rain!

Reze and Denji were having fun in a school and then she teached him how to swim! When they were kissing during a firework show, she suddenly bit Denji’s tongue off! She is the bomb devil and disguised as a pretty girl and Denji fell in love with her at first!

They were fighting in the sky and the city was ruined! So many explosions happened! Denji knew that water is the counter for fires so he pulled her into the sea together with a rope!

After Reze being rescued,Denji still wanted to kiss her but she gave him a bite again! Denji is just too obsessive with love!

Reze got killed by Makima in the end! She definitely deserves it for doing so many bad things!

The OST (CHAINSAW MAN THE MOVIE: REZE ARC original soundtrack -summer's end-) was incredible from start to finish, especially the breathtaking transition from 'eye of the typhoon' to 'edge of chainsaw (typhoon ver)' to 'bomb' and finally 'dance with chainsaw'. 🔥🔥🔥

As for the movie: it definitely lived up to the hype. This movie had fantastic ingredients of themes like love, heart, grief, tragedy, life & death, hope and more. As well as the case of being at the wrong place at the wrong time thing going on for it and what could have been as one can't help but wonder what things would be like if Denji and Reze had lived in favorable circumstances other than what either had to go through, throughout the heartbreaking story.

About Reze, apparently people are extra critical of her character in the sense that she was supposedly 'an obvious villain' but I feel this approach is questionable and unfair since such interpretation is obvious to the viewer, since Reze is meant to be viewed in a particular way, specifically through the eyes of Denji. Denji, given his background and experiences highlighted in season 1, is experiencing a lot of 'first times' in his young life so it should be understandable why a theme of naivety is a major part of his journey, hence him ignoring the red flags of Reze. However despite the red flags and no matter how much of a mask Reze tried putting up, Denji still attempted to look past such as he sensed her real self but unfortunately her sins and consequences (Makima) caught up to her.

Overall great movie that definitely skyrocketed an already interesting story and franchise to the next level. ✨
