I was rewatching some clips classics like Code Geass and Death Note. And it hit me… these shows are 15–20 years old now. When I first got into anime, 90s stuff (DBZ, Sailor Moon, Ranma ½) were what people called “boomer anime”. The “old school” stuff that defined a generation. Now it feels like the cycle has caught up, and the shows many of us grew up with are entering that category.

Some would say yes, but there are also a lot of shows ongoing from 2000s in which are very popular to this day and are ongoing, and also there were many anime of 2000s in which also continued past 2000s like for example gintama was airing from 2006 to 2018 and then the final movie which covered remainder of the manga in 2021. So I think it depends on some shows, and most of these shows still holds up in quality of the animation and direction.

No, this categorization is arbitrary and illogical, boomers didn't grow up in the 2000s, millennials like me did, thus they should be called millennial shows.

Do you even know what a boomer is ? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baby_boomers

Some context outside of Anime… Calling 00s anime “Boomer shows” is peak internet irony. Actual Baby Boomers never log onto shit like Crunchyroll. Real Boomers barely even use the internet to socialize with strangers. Generation X? Totally ignored, because apparently no one had the brainpower to roast my generation creatively by coming up with a creative derogatory term that actually stuck. And if we start calling millennials “Boomers” just because… Then congratulations!... The word has officially "jumped the shark". At this point, “Boomer” isn’t a generation anymore, it’s just a lazy way to say “old shit” online. lol

It would be like calling shit like "White Zombie" and "Linkin Park", Classic Rock. Or calling Eminem, "Golden Oldies". lol

@tchitchouan Yes, Code Grass is a millennial anime. Death Notes as well.

Unfortunately, yes. We are boomers now. I saw some newfaq on twitter calling JJK, Kagurabachi and Tokyo Revengers "Anime we grew up watching"😨 It's over. The difference between tourists and new weebs is also blurring in my mind now.

not that it really matters, but are we really going to call something that's 15-20 years old a boomer?

like are we calling fifteen year old teenagers boomers now?

blah blah blah baby boomer generation, but really in my head being a boomer implies you are over 60

Well we might but imo. for that I think we need to go back to the 90s. That particular 90s style, in terms of animation, music, characters, etc., this is what the line for me. 2000+ can still be put with modern vibe. Series like Haruhi, Soul Eater, Code Geas, Fullmetal Panic, Psycho-Pass, Fate Zero, Bakemonogatari, Fullmetal Alchemist, and many more... Still we are old.

I guess depending on how young the individuals are, many anime fans already consider them retro.

It depends on what you mean with "boomer".

If you just meant "old", it could be, but how old is enough?

If you meant the generation, then no.
Boomers were born between the years 1945-65, genx 1965-1980, millennials 1980-2000, while zoomers were born in 2000-2010.
So those would be shows for zoomers, probably made by genx.

By the way, the term "boomer" used as an adjective is a recent term. I've frankly never heard it before 2010..

@GrumbleDango I think the 90s are still retro, for a while longer. Vintage would be the 80s. Meanwhile the 70s and 60s are fading into deeper obscurity lol. For the super youngsters, sure the 2000s would be retro for them, but in general, 2000s anime might just be old.

I don't see Sword Art Online S1 being on the cusp of retro, imo
ow + nw = 90-2000s

The same people watched Sailor Moon in elementary school and then Death Note in high school. They are from the same generation. The zoomer gen are the ones who watched Shingeki no Kyojin in middle school and 20s shows in high school
