Things like having kids take care of the school rather then having janitors.
My waifu is the most wonderful waifu. Mai Valentine.

We're freaking out that we're running out of time, but to do what? Should i stop and think of that? Is there something i could do to slow it down? Live in a day for once, instead of watch it sprinting by

I think we should have some of those mini cars and vans that you see a lot on Japanese streets. Something about that compact size looks so cool!

Definitely wish the US would build more high speed rail as American infrastructure is god awful and way too car-reliant. High-speed rail is something Japan is pretty well known for with the Shinkansen and it's something i wish we had over here

A lot of the things Japan does better just comes down to their culture. I do also think a high speed rail system in the US would be nice.

@Retro8bit Funny enough those Japanese Kei trucks have been getting imported a lot here in the US with the 25 year rule that "any vehicle with a manufacturing date of 25 years or older can legally be imported into the US under federal law".

Really? That's interesting, I wasn't aware that was going on. I guess because I don't see many of them over in my area where I live. Is there a certain area in the United States that they're known to be imported more at?

That would only work if it were engrained starting in preschool/kindergarten with making kids clean up after themselves. I vaguely remember doing so back then.

They wouldn't be practical on the interstate, but giving them a similar status as mopeds/scooters or using them as farm vehicles would be doable I think.

Again, the US is a massive country. This wouldn't be practical outside of a few major cities.

FUCK NO! If anything Japan should have looser gun laws. They'd have less problems with women being groped on trains if said women were allowed to carry/defend themselves, and the Japanese countryside has problems with wild animals because of how hard getting a hunting license is in Japan.

I don't know enough about squat toilets to comment on that one.

It's doubtful if everyone claiming to have been groped really was. In any event women pulling guns on train gropers isn't a reasonable thing to do or to allow.

That only works when your populace is naturally inclined to be civilized, otherwise the situation turns into a criminal free-for-all like in much of europe.

I could go on about the reasons US infrastructure is so shit and how it needs to be overhauled, but it would likely cause issues to talk about due to how it interacts a lot with social politics. The US is just a pretty poor country when it comes to transportation and could be better and high speed rail access being made more common across the country is just one element that the US needs to catch up with the rest of the world in.

@Retro8bit Really depends on your state. Even if they can be imported, many states have laws restricting them, and a few outright banning them.

Sure, it's much better to live in a country with lots of paranoid civilians carrying guns in public. Japan's high public safety is totally overrated *kappa*

@Zarutaku It more of a mental health problem. Look at what all school shooters have in common. It's not like their thoughts of harming other people would go away if they were holding a knife instead.

Gun owners just like to go to the shooting range and have them for self defense. If anything it sounds like your the one who is paranoid.

@WaffleMaster89 Harming a bunch of people is much more difficult with a knife, which makes most of the difference.

I didn't say nor imply that all gun owners are paranoid civilians who carry their gun in public, most of them probably don't (hopefully).
And why would you need a gun for self defense if you lived in a country with high public safety? That's either paranoid, or the public safety is low.
Lots of people in the US seemingly don't trust their state to ensure public safety, so they feel the need to do it themselves instead.

@Retro8bit The sad thing (for me, at least) is that all the little kei cars are automatics. I really don't like driving auto.

Except the kei trucks, they're usually manual. I once saw an old man drifting down a mountain road in a Kei truck. I was driving a sports car (turbo-charged Subaru Legacy) and I could barely keep up. I wish my dash cam had been working at the time.

@WaffleMaster89 Tbf, Japan also has a huge mental health problem and (aside from self-exit) this usually leads to a lot of BAD outcomes here.

Abuse and DV is rampant, and there's also stalking and sex crimes as well.

The most obvious thing is public transport, the car dependent nature of North American cities is absolutely horrible.

Safe enough that civilians don't feel the need to have guns in public.

My standard is that people shouldn't need to be afraid of getting shot.
