First 20 episodes were ok, but predictable as hell. Been there, seen that etc. The whole series is predictable, but the 1st 20 eps specifically.
20-30 are boring as sin, a lot feels like filler and you start to ask yourself how this is supposed to go on for another 40+ eps.
It gets better after that but still too long. 36 episodes would have sufficed as well.
The ending sucks and i'd rather had seen Tenma, Nina and Dieter having a good time at the dining table instead of the last scenes with Johan.
I actually hope Tenma and Nina are a thing now. Screw the age difference. Tenma saved her like a million times and she obviously likes him a lot. No surprise, he's a hero, a living legend.
Glad his ex fiance/witch turned her life around.
Anyway, i liked the OP. Tenma is a great MC, It looks awesome for its time, they obviously put a lot of care into this production but i honestly can't/couldn't give this anything above 5/10.

| i just finished it now. the ending could be much better and it kinda sucks to not see why Johan turned out this way. Was he always like this or smth happned to him? Why did they wear same clothes on that day? What are their real names? So many questiones unanswered. Other than that im glad im glad that Tenma didnt kill him like in the movie Seven. Ending reminded me of that scene. I wish we could see the gang together even for a slight second tho. I might check the manga to find more. Overall it was a solid 7.5/10 for me. |

What kind of police hospital doesn't have bars on its windows. I thought episode 73 was awful but they managed to go lower with this mediocre ending.

| Lost for words. After holding on episode 68 for two years. - I noticed how Tenma in the beginning was at a moral fork in the road whether to choose his career progression or to save his morals and stay stagnant in his medical position however at the end of the anime we are told that Tenma joins doctors without borders which I believe is the perfect ending to showcase his moral standpoint and he has sacrificed title money and those sorts of things to truly help people which the entire series has been about. |

| ending episode, didnt really care for it. it felt out of place with everything that happened and the actual ending scene was just annoying. this boy probably got up and left to go commit another genocide because this dumbass tenma SAVED HIS LIFE AGAIN FOR SOME REASON EVEN THOUGH THE ENTIRE PURPOSE OF THE SHOW WAS HIS MENTAL BREAKDOWN OVER SAVING A MURDERER AND HOW HE HAS TO KILL HIM. 74 episodes of this for what, its basically started over again. i genuinely dont see why its so hyped up by everybody. the tension was good, cliffhangers were good, overall plot was good, characters were ok, ending was mid. it was an open ending from what im seeing, the monster could be anybody. maybe even the mother because she was choosing between her children? but even then how did that happen if it was tenmas imagination, johan didnt wake up to tell him that. i didnt expect tenma to kill johan and put an end to it, but something along those lines i guess. the ending felt so anticlimactic and i just feel like it was underwhelming overall! i enjoyed tenma and nina a lot at the start, and was slowly understanding johans character, but as time went on it all just felt jumbled together. nina was portrayed so differently towards the end, even sometimes as the monster. while tenmas whole purpose was to kill johan to ease his conscience yet he did none of that and just saved him again. ok. the only character i fully liked that stayed consistent was dieter and that is a small child, how was the small child the only consistent character. i know its a psychological anime but it just didnt live up to the hype for me, johans character was never fully fleshed out in my eyes and the ending just confused me more. ill give it an 8/10, i dont see why people would rate it any higher. |

one of the best shows i've seen in a long time, and i think it definitely holds up to this day. that scene with the twins and their mom that tenma was seeing was chilling. LOVE THIS SHOW SM!!! i'm truly wondering what happened to johan though!!

| @Aykal That scene is actually ambigious, we doN't know if Johan has actually left or it was just Tenma's imagination. Also, considering it's a police hospital it's kinda absurd if Johan could leave just like that. |
| monster is an emotional masterpiece. there couldn’t have been a better ending. johan's story is tragic. he gave up everything for anna, every bit of his identity, before erasing every bit of his past and what makes him human. his collapse into himself after münich and then again in ruhenheim was really difficult to watch. then we have tenma, whose adventure was so beautifully crafted, and every side character that was perfectly written; runge, richard, eva, martin...urasawa is incredibly talented. |
