@popa910 No, the threat of the revocation of defense over the Norn family's lands was only that - a threat. I doubt Isabelle, who we've established is actually a halfway decent noble who cares about her lands and people, or members of her family would actually leave the people of Norn Hold to die like that, especially since they were shown as willing to die with their people in defense of Kerbeck Hold until they were saved by the Silent Witch.

However, if Norn Hold is as reliant on Kerbeck Hold for their defense as Isabelle and the Prince imply, even the implied threat of revoking that protection would be enough for the Norn family to take action against one of their own for putting that relationship in jeopardy. Even if Lord Norn is as scummy of a noble as he's raised his daughter to be, he still has a responsibility towards his land and people. To that end, he's been relying on the Kerbeck family for defense, and he knows that without them they'd be at the mercy of the dragons. Thus, the Kerbecks have powerful diplomatic influence over the Norns, and the fact their daughter almost unalived a member of Kerbeck House out of malice and pettiness is a Diplomatic Incident, capitalized.

In other words, the real shock to Caroline - who up until this point was counting on her Daddy dearest to smooth things over so she gets away scot-free - was that she fucked up so badly that even Daddy wouldn't save her, because she put Daddy's entire existence as nobility - lands, people, and title - at risk.
@AurigaNexus, thanks, that does make some amount of sense, but that's still a pretty light punishment for someone who attempted to murder and also seriously injure (the stairs incident) her classmates

@popa910 basically, if they went through with bringing the Norn house to ruin, that would weaken their overall ability to defend against dragonraids. Nobody wins in that scenario. Instead, they'll be able to use this incident as leverage over house Norn, and be able to compel them to do anything they want, without question.

@Revvie-chan The thing about medicines is, they have to be taken as directed, or they can be no better than poison. Something that can be safely applied to the skin, or eyes, etc. might be lethal if directly ingested in sufficient amounts.

In this case, Claudia determined it was "Belladonna, or a similar poison". Belladonna, also known as Deadly Nightshade, is rather toxic, but throughout history it has been used as a type of sedative, or medical treatment for a variety of ailments. In this case, it may have been a different substance with similar effects, but either way, medicines and toxins are often one and the same -- it's all about the dosage. If they added enough of the substance to her tea to ensure that she would be overwhelmed by the bitterness with a single sip, it would definitely not be a good time for her if she downed the whole cup -- and on an empty stomach, no less.
@pir0zhki what I'm saying is that that might have been a red herring instead.

like I get the scientifical explanation about it. I'm just wondering if the writer is using that as a red herring, instead

@Revvie-chan for what it's worth, I'm pretty sure that what Isabelle put in the tea wasn't the same substance as what Monica was given. It seemed to me that it was just something bitter without the adverse effects of the previous poison. Norn coughed it up and accused her of trying to poison her, basically admitting that that's what she tried to do to Monica. And then Isabelle drank it herself, demonstrating the difference between the two.

@pir0zhki ah. yeah perhaps.

I was thinking if someone was making use of Caroline, instead. She seems to be rather uneducated about these things, after all.

Smiling during interrogation makes it obvious that you're looking for an escape. There is just no way she can get away with everything. And isabelle has shown her how a real villainess should act. Best episode so far.
