No, Grasshopper, it does not. In this simulation universe of ours, nothing above the quantum level is random. It is all planned by one of the Illuminati or another, although the leading timeframes may vary.

two jokes that did not need to go as long as they did:

-The entirety of that Uron Mirage crap. They should've cut it off after that opening and have the actual characters react.

- Why did that matrix joke last so long???????

Wow, a show in a show. It's a pretty cool concept on paper, although it feels somewhat flat, and I would have liked to see a lot more of the main character. However, if it's the teacher and manga author dynamics, it's pretty good. Additionally, I believe the first part is intended to be boring, as it serves as a parody of shounen manga as a whole. However, I still felt that the parody could have been improved.

So many fake anime in this season
We're The Tsukiyono ♡ Company〜
Möbius Ring of Reincarnation
And now Uron Mirage

And I kinda want all of these titles to be a real anime
@phantomfandom It's almost purposefully vague and cliched in Uron Mirage's case, I think we've heard something to that effect in the manga from Makuwa at some point, or another fan. You'd almost have a volume and then some if you compiled all the Uron Mirage chapters and the Makuwa/Kuku centered ones

I think the only series I can think of that got a modified full release that was a reference within another series is Kujibiki Unbalance from Genshiken. I know because 1) I watched Genshiken and even the 2 episodes from the in universe KujiAn, but then there was a reimagining that took some elements, but also went its own way in 2006, only a few years from the original one being featured. I kind of liked some of the characters in the original from what we saw, like the girl who has an encyclopedic knowledge of mushrooms

Had to skip ahead to confirm I was watching the correct anime. 8 minutes for a sub-story; I feel like we're going to see it to the end.
@RioFS I forget if they explain fully, but jumping into the series there would probably be like starting One Piece at Enies Lobby or such

By the 2nd minute the gag got old. We didn't need full 10 minutes of a non existent anime just for a gag, that wasn't that funny either. The second half of the episode on the other hand made up for it with wholesomeness. So... it was ok, just plese don't do it again.

I'm super glad to see at least one other person shares this opinion. It would've been great if it lasted only a fraction of the time. Like have something completely out of pocket happen right after the UM opening and then quick panel back to the group. I just feel like I was robbed of an actual interesting story that could've happened in the time used for a fake anime intentionally made to be as basic as possible.

The otaku story was cute, though. I'm excited to see what kind of story they'll make, if we ever get to.
@amentet Uron Mirage is practically Shinohara poking fun at those cliches, it's fairly tongue in cheek, only taken seriously in universe, because we don't have any real frame of reference ourselves. Realistically, a series like this would have to be independently published, it wouldn't last in any of the major magazines, especially these days

@Rnonsenseguy This is a series that really rewards people who've read the source material, I'd say, given it practically shifts tone and genre at a pace only surpassed by Me and Roboco, which goes anywhere practically

I feel like the odd one out in saying I never really liked these chapters, at least in how out of place they seem in a series that has literal magic going on. Shinohara clearly has a lot to say about the creative process and such, Makuwa and Kukumi really are his method to channel those feelings in a way that at least kind of works within the manga, even if it also feels as random as the Uron Mirage stuff.

That's not to say there aren't other chapters that can become super draining, Keigo droning on about something, or even Morihito in the jeans chapters (IYKYK), can be pretty boring, reading or viewing.

I always love these chapters even though I'm not the slightest bit interested in jeans. Moi's passion and by extension Shinohara's is infectious. Today's manga chapter is yet another hobbyist parody.

@Lucifrost It is nice and interesting in hindsight, sure, but the consumption is like this episode with Makuwa's rambling, which has passion, but I feel like dubbing this into English would be a nightmare to match the timing (not the mouthflaps, just the frame timing, iirc). Not sure if I really retain anything from the jeans chapters or much of anything from Morihito's niche fashion interests, even when he brought up how Nico's dress from her grandmother was really cool in spite of looking "plain"

@amentet Hard agree...I get that it's supposed to be a play on all those shows that are seriously like that, but I got the point with a couple minutes of it...I didn't need to have this truly awful schlock take up half the episode. From other comments, it sounds like that happens a lot in the manga; I hope it doesn't become a recurring thing in the show, 'cause it's going to majorly damage my opinion if it does, and that would be sad since the first half of the series was pretty great.

Damn, talk about a troll episode LOL, after the "fake" OP played I paused it and had to confirm I was watching the right series and then I reread the episode synopsis and it mentioned 4 unknown characters so I thought it was 4 new bad guys that Nico and the gang would eventually encounter but instead it was an anime within an anime haha. I mean they spent about 10 minutes that could've been used for the main cast, talk about committing to a gag, well done.

Regarding the 2nd half, it was nice seeing Kukumi and her teacher interact as otakus and at the end they started a writer/artist partnership, I hope we get to see the outcome of that down the road. Having said that I am looking forward to seeing the main cast again.

The first part was a bit boring since I don’t watch anime like that but I liked the songs for it. Also loved how the Uron Mirage cast was watching “Witch Watch” in the ending credits. The living room was the exact same as Moi’s. lol

Loved the second part. I’d watch an anime of a student and teacher making a manga. They’re too funny geeking out over their favorite anime. The teacher is very relatable.

LOL, for this episode to start up with the JJK parody style, even with Who-ya Extended's special OP that's actually kind of good, Uron Mirage is off to a great start.

The power duo of Utsuro Akitsuki and Oboro Namisaki, together with lion Zack Balan and Sagiri Kusama, their in-world universe is quite the Shonen setup with monsters and the like that's quite the literate parody of JJK that Moi and the others are watching for amusement out of Shonen Jump's lineup.

And this brings us to the secret teacher-student meeting of Yuuri Makuwa and Kukumi Ureshino talking about their adoration for Uron Mirage and both Ikemen MCs, much ado between fan and artist that the rabbit hole goes a lot deeper with Ureshino having started dabbled into manga illustrations. Of course, as a hardcore fan, Yuuri-sensei is VERY elated, but in the manga format, it's quite the contrast that she sure has compulsive internal feelings, but that she could not afford to address directly to her of the missing element of its characters. And as expected, with Ureshino posting her draft online, Yuuri-sensei posing as Dengeki Melon to put her hardcore otaku feelings across (which Ureshino instantly knows), and the friendship that spawns from the love of otakudom, is a great feeling indeed.

Even with ALI's special ED too, it just makes this episode quite special lol. Definitely one that plays to the series' parody strengths.

The idea of a spoof anime trolling the viewer is within the creative flex that this defines this show from the start.

But the problem with this Uron Mirage segment other than the effort put into it is that its purpose feels unclear. Regular eps are great because they take some fun set ups and push them as beyond boundaries of reasonable outcome, like Doraemon gadgets on crack (and in the prior ep, actual crack?). This here needed to be an extreme spoof that's in line with the ridiculous universe of Witch Watch but it's bland like a third rate JJK or Demon Slayer.

If you're gonna spoof something you better go all out, should've had completely idiotic and incoherent characters babbling incoherently and doing utterly stupid stuff beyond the boundaries of regular battle shonen, and somehow our real characters take it very seriously. Instead it's just bland, which is a waste of viewers time.
