| A thread inspired by @Deathko (who doesn’t wash his hands before eating) and @149597871 (who really likes to wash his hands). Pretty straightforward question: Do you wash your hands before eating? Where I’m from, it’s something you’re expected to do, but that doesn’t seem to be the case everywhere. Were your parents just never strict about it, so you never really picked up the habit? Or did you use to do it but stopped once you became independent? Or are you just like me and wash your hands before you eat? Which is it? |
| Only if I'm directly using my fingers to take pieces of fried fish to my plate. But most of the time, not really. I just use utensils and the feeling of dry hands after constant washing is uncomfortable to me. |

| As someone who works in food service yes it's something that's been drilled in our heads a thousand times to do, I literally can't touch food without washing my hands beforehand. Otherwise it makes my hands feel sandy for some reason. |

| @fleurbleue I don't remember if I tried with chopsticks. But it's pretty easy with fork, you just have to slide 2 pins around the chips, and gravity and friction will keep it there. |
| In the vast majority of cases, I wash my hands before eating out of habit like when I'm at home or at someone's home. But if they are not visibly dirty, I won't always bother to go wash my hands like when I come home and just want something sweet for myself or when I'm at work and going to the toilet just for washing hands seems like too much trouble. Always, whenever possible. Ever since I got food poisoning a while ago, I’ve been very careful because I never want to go through that again.

| @Dachi It's still a wise move to wash your hands when going to the toilet or when they are visibly dirty, but it's not everything. Too much hygiene reduces the immune system, which is also the reason why some people get more susceptible for sicknesses when the immune system hasn't been trained properly. That is not to say that there can't be dangerous pathogens and that disinfections wouldn't have any use, but overdoing it for normal things is doing more harm than good. This is a good read. Either way, common politeness already makes me wash my hands in private settings before eating with others or before getting food from some common storage |

| I wash my hands very often, even when they appear to be clean. Even if they appear to be clean, it still can be dirty or bacteria. I also work in the petrochemical industries and washing hands comes now naturally to me. I'm even disgust if people don't even wash their hands enough. Especially when coming from the toilet. I would even skip food, snacks or a dinner if someone touch it with their hands, if I found out that they don't wash their hands. Even when I get visitors, I wash my hands before giving them food or drinks. And I always have a lot of food and drinks for visitors in stock, table is always full with food lol. I even wash off drinking glasses before giving them to visitors, even if they are washed. Sometimes I even rinse drinking glasses from visitors if the glass is standing to long on the table. Also between eating, you can see me sometimes rinse drink glasses with water. I also hate it when I give drink glasses to people with my fingerprint on it. This is just how I am. I always wash or rinse so much with water. Not only my own hands, but also plates, forks, knives and spoons and afcourse drink glasses. |
