context before i start my rant: i live in japan (especially hokkaido)
as the title says, am i the only who is getting tired of this trend that every f**king anime is airing late to the point even shounen aiming at children like dragon ball (look at daima's airing time for example) and one piece is airing to late night? As an ordinary citizen who isnt an NEET otaku i have things to do the next day so sleeping is my priority and have to skip all premiere episodes (only posting this at this hour JST cause i have new year vacation)

i used to watch a lot of japanese tv back in 2000s and 2010s and i remember watching anime such as Bleach, Eyeshield 21, Naruto etc who were airing at 17:00 or 17:30 (5PM for the americans) and the some anime who used to air in the morning like dragon ball kai and super, toriko and hunter x hunter (2011), i wonder whats happening in this decade, i now watch lots of anime in streaming nowadays due to this stupid trend, and can watch NTV anime on the saturdays. (excited for the upcoming wataru btw) also thank god for animax for being still around lol

Almost nobody watches anime live on TV outside of Japan xD

Besides, you can auto-record TV shows, so it doesn't matter when they air.

Apparently TV recorders exist since the mid 50's, and I assume them to be pretty popular in Japan.
I mean, you're watching something called "LATE-NIGHT anime", so it's to be expected, no?
This format became popular in the second half of the 90's due to complains about Evangelion and the OVA format becoming late-night anime instead.

@thewiru yes but now it feels every anime (even dragon ball and one piece) is using the excuse of late night content despite the 2 not having anything too mature

I imagine you would get better answers asking people in Japan.

I have noticed quite a few shows airing very late. It does not impact me, since I am not watching on TV, but I did find it a bit odd.

I assume if there's nothing that can be done, then pick one or two nights to go to sleep later in so that you can watch your favorite airing anime.

@W3TFT guess streaming is my only way along with NTV animes and Animax/AT-X

you're definitely not alone! The late-night airing schedule is a real drag, especially for those of who love to catch new episodes fresh off the press. The whole "let's air it when everyone's half-asleep" thing—so inconvenient! 😴

But hey, the silver lining? Streaming platforms let us watch anime whenever we want

@Nao120 It’s the same. Streaming platforms are at the mercy of TV schedules.

LOL just wait till bluray encodes pop up on nyaa and watch the show at highest quality at your leisure.
You're deliberately harming your watching experience by watching shit when it airs.

I mean being in the US it works out for me. Time difference means 3am for you is 1PM for me so I can go about my day and by the time I'm ready to relax with some shows all the new episodes have dropped midday on streaming services.

Although in the case of One Piece it airs at 9:30am on a Sunday and won't start airing at night until April 2025 because they announced To Be Hero X will be taking the timeslot. In that case waking up before 9:30am on a Sunday to catch a show sounds much worse than staying up until 11:15pm if the intent is to watch it live.

@Catalano I'm sure you're better than me because I couldn't do that, but isn't that assuming OP sleeps for more than 5 hours? He probably does, or maybe he sleeps for less than 5 hours depending on his schedule. Like, sleep at 11 night, wake up 2 in the morning.

@RainyEvenings yeah lol
i am subbed to bandai channel and amazon prime and the amount of content (especially with obscure old anime and tokusatsu such as corrector yui and sukeban deka) is crazy to think about how much you pay here unlike TV's contents
