From now on, I will use my myanimelist account only for the forum, I will open and watch the anime as before, I will just not follow them.

Well, that's the main reason why I have this account.

@Serafos It doesn't make sense to me, it reduces the pleasure, it feels like I'm watching just to add to the list.

Believe me, at first it may seem fun, but then it just becomes pointless, and unnecessary chore at some point.

If you are an active anime fan, there will ALWAYS be coming something you will want to checkout, or updating endless neverending franchises if you are into those; even marking dropped titles is a waste of time, IMO...

And then, there is the fact that you will eventually forget that you even watched most of anime on your list anyway.

I think the best reason, if there is any, for using those lists are for long running titles like Fate, Gundam, or Pokemon to better orient yourself with their multiple entries.

You can use MAL in many ways, likewise when it comes to managing your list, it can be done in many ways. Some users even use MAL for listing only the H anime that they have watched :P

If you don't use the list function, hope you've other means to track your watch progress unless you've a good memory or kept a personal record somewhere.

Valid take. I even question myself why I'm doing all this in the first place. I guess it's because I didn't experience anime during my childhood, but now, I feel like I've been binging stuff just so I can prove that I've finished them.

Feeling that way is usually a sign of upcoming burnout from overconsumption.

MyAnimeList can be used however you want but if you'd have a conversation or like a argument with another used about an anime, it would do good to have proof that you've even watched the series in the first place. Same thing with those who hide their lists shouldn't argue about an anime.
But hey, whatever floats your boat.

@Polatrix I agree, I don't think there is a need to follow them either.

@Sky_Nova_20 I feel that way too, we don't need to prove it, if we watched it, we watched it.

@Zarutaku I'm already in anime burnout, but that's not the point.

@Azuchi Why is that? If I'm talking about it, I must have watched it. You're thinking very wrong anyway.

It probably is, because otherwise you probably wouldn't:

@Zarutaku If I use myanimelist, I have a problem with not being able to stick to the anime. I also look at other anime.

@casmapayne There are users who've faked it since their arguments where wrong, their plot explanations were wrong etc etc. It's easier to just add stuff as you watch them instead of skipping it. Proving to the others you've actually watched the series. I've seen many posts saying like "you haven't even watched it" and like "bro doesn't even have it listed" is a few of them when someone starts to argue or want to say an opinion of a series. But like I said, whatever floats you boat.

@casmapayne wdym? you don't need to use MAL after each episode. you could watch all of One Piece without touching MAL, and afterwards you login for a minute to set it completed, I don't see why that would distract from watching anime.

@Azuchi I understand, imdb letterboxd tv time mydramalist I deleted them all, I added content to them for 10 years but they are annoying.

@Zarutaku That's not what I'm talking about, since Myanimelist is easy to use, it tells me where I left off, so I leave that anime and start watching other anime and wandering between them, which forces me.

If I didn't keep track it'd be harder to find new anime to watch, since I first would have to figure out if I already know it or not.
I don't use MAL to keep track, though. I do it in another place. I only added a few anime to MAL.

Most useful feature is to organize all the anime you want to watch and could watch, since you already have them. My list of these kinds of anime exceeds 300 entries and it's nice to just use some filters to find stuff I'm in the mood for. Mostly I just search for Isekai, though.

Why do you think we care about it? Are you so much of an important snowflake that needs attention?
