Just a little something I was curious about. What's the aspect ratio of your screen? Following that, do you watch anime in its original aspect ratio, or altered to fit your screen? Personally, I still have good ol' 4:3 displays, and I watch everything in the way it was originally made. Imho it's silly to crop or stretch images just to avoid black bars on the screen, whether those bars be horizontal or vertical. I mean, black bars are nothingness, neutral, easily ignored.

In order to keep the poll simple, please consider 16:9 and 16:10 displays as mostly the same.

There is no anime made in 16:10, only computer monitors actually use it, and the rate they're made like that is falling.

Anyway, Option 2 is best, I have a 1920x1080 laptop, and I don't like things stretched to fit it, so lets bring out the black bars. Having things stretch to fit is stupid in my opinion, but whatever.

I have a 16:10 display, so 16:9 anime is letterboxed and 4:3 is pillared. Unless I watch on my TV, which is 16:9. However I always watch stuff in its original aspect, only total morons crop or stretch stuff to fill their screen. I want to see the whole picture, undistorted, thanks.

i watch anime just the way its meant 2 b watched (ie original aspect ratio)

stretching just distorts the video and ruins the experience

It would be nice if wallers could have resolutions for all the popular ratios. ;(

16:9 screen here, and I prefer to watch shows in that format so I don't get the pillarbox thing going on. However, if the show wasn't made for widescreen I do watch it in its original aspect ratio. Stretching an image just looks weird and stupid.

Same goes for playing video games on a flatscreen tv. You just can't play Super Mario Bros. in 16:9. Stick with the original aspect ratios.

Yeah, 4:3 shows look rather funny when you try to force them to 16:9...so I just leave it at it's original AR.

My screen is 16:10, watch all Anime in 16:9. But for some 4:3 Anime I just watch it 4:3 too.

Well, obviously anything is going to look the best at it's original aspect ratio. But I do prefer to watch it in 16:9, the new Blu-Ray anime look really nice in Widescreen.
