I'm sure most people know this already, but just for the 1 person who doesn't, most anime OP's and endings are specifically composed for a given season of a series, and the lyrics and tone of the song often reflect that part of the story (and no, Yes did not compose roundabout for the ending 1 of Jojo part 1... unless.... XD).

I am not sure if people fully appreciate this fact or take the time to look up the lyrics of their favourite anime OP/EDs, but I think you absolutely should give it a shot if this is all news to you.

Anyway, here are some that come to my mind:

Based on the lyrics alone, the one that goes:

Churu churu yeah yeah, churu churu yeah yeah, churu churu yeah yeah
[Nihongo]
Highlight, highlight
[more Nihongo]
Churu churu yeah yeah, churu churu yeah yeah, churu churu yeah yeah

@Tirinchas No idea what song you are referring to but it only felt appropriate to reply with this

"me when I listen to nihongo openingu but cannot speak nihongo"

I really liked the lyrics for the 2nd OP of Vinland Saga (Dark Crow by Man with a Mission). It felt like the lyrics were meant to represent Askeladd and Canute, my 2 favorite characters from the anime, and their struggle to take down their enemies, the king and god. Especially the chorus.

I've only checked the lyrics when they pique my interest which is usually when they're partly English or include some simple Japanese. But I really should do that more often.

"Kani☆Do-Luck! (カニ☆Do-Luck!)". I think I need not say anything, as it's pretty self explanatory. It's just crabs, cooking... something... crabs? Hh yeah, and a bunch of visuals of Steve Jobs.

...also something about crabs, I think? It's just nonsense, and I like it because it's nonsense.

IDOL - Oshi no Ko OP

I actually don't really like the sound of this song, but when I know the lyrics from listening to it translated in my language, it really shows the character Ai to me. It even has official English version too and somehow the words used makes it sound like the Japanese version. I began to realize the play on words in both that and the Japanese version so I became more appreciative towards this song.

I generally don't read or listen to lyrics very closely, but the one that comes to mind instantly is parasyte the maxim.

The engrish aside, the op lyrics flawlessly mimic the the themes of the show.

like just think about the opening lines alone:

"You guys do not notice that we
Are gifted just by being humans
We are absolute
Predators we do not even
Have any, enemies
Maybe there are other animals, watching us
And thinking that
Someday "we will Beat them Down!""

@APolygons2 I have a confession to make... for most english anime openings I literally cannot parse almost a single word lol. That opening as well sounds mostly like gibberish to me lol but maybe I'll take a look at the lyrics, I do think at least in feeling the song fits the anime really well.

Also, I saw a comment on youtube that the ending of the opening says "As we watch... HENTAAAAIII" and now I can't unhear it lol

@Anjuro No that op is impossible to understand without having the lyrics on screen lmao

I was SHOCKED when I realized most of the lyrics were in english. I originally thought most of it was japanese.

that is why I started my praise with "Engrish aside" cause yeah... its not exactly perfect english lol

but still, the thread is about the lyrics, and that song has Really damn good lyrics!

JJK OP1 AND OP3. Songs are great, and the lyrics are what made these 2 songs so good.

It's a song I didn't know.

There is a famous chain of restaurants specializing in crab cuisine that was born in Osaka. Every Japanese resident knows the name of the restaurant, thanks to its commercial song and the giant crab model (with movable scissors and legs) sign on the restaurant's facade.

The title "Kani☆Do-Luck!" is a play on the restaurant's brand name, "かに道楽: Kani Douraku" (debauchery with crabs).

«謡(utai)» from «GHOST IN THE SHELL 攻殻機動隊»

The sound was overwhelmingly astonishing.
The female chorus is exotic. I had no idea what they were singing.

It resembles a traditional Bulgarian chorus, but it is sung by a Japanese folk group.
Director Mamoru Oshii's trustworthy Kenji Kawai was even forced to write the lyrics for this song by himself at the director's insistence.

The lyrics were written in the style of ancient Japanese, which dates back more than 1,200 years, around the 8th century. Even native Japanese cannot catch the lyrics by ear.

Although Shirou Masamune's manga source material for «Ghost in the Shell» is replete with supernatural elements such as psychic spirits and ESP, all of these elements have been dispelled in the motion picture adaptations, including this one, as if they had never existed.
The music and lyrics seem to be a faint remnant of the spiritualism of the original work.

I have no wit to express the depth of it, but just describe its brief meaning:

When I danced, a beautiful woman dreamed
As I danced, the shining moon rang out and echoed
A deity came down from heaven to marry
Dawn breaks, and the birds of the realm of night chirp
Deities beyond, bless us over here
Deities beyond, bless us over here
Deities beyond, bless us over here

1) Idol- Oshi No Ko
2) Ren'ai Circulation- Bakemonogatari
3) Seishun Complex - Bocchi the Rock

These three tells a lot about their respective mains characters in being Ai,Nadeko,Bocchi. Does in a great way matching the theme, which is enough good for me.
