It becomes unnecessarily long and most of the characters are filler, the villain is not intimidating but charismatic like Frieza or Cell, the fights (with the exception of Goku vs. Majin Vegeta) are very forgettable unlike the previous arc (Goku vs. Cell, Piccolo vs 17 and Gohan vs cell) and tends to be boring in many parts.

I'm not a fan of buu saga either. Mainly because of unnecessary characters and unnecessary transformations.

My doctor has always told me to smoke. He even explains himself: “Smoke, my friend. Otherwise someone else will smoke in your place.”

Idk, I liked it, especially Kid Buu being a menace to everything. Sure, it wasn't as good as Cell saga for example, but I still enjoyed watching it.

I think it's the weakest saga yeah. There were some cool moments but I think it's very troublesome having a villian that can regenerate like that.

Everytime, they'd beat up a version of Buu he'd just come back again & again & again. It's like the Z fighters couldn't think logically. "If I keep punching this bubblegum guy he'll eventually die right?"

I liked it bruh, I got to see a 2nd legend give his life for the greater good, a saiyan who has greater potential the his peers power up and getting the girl, a Lil pink menace to society having a cake day, SSJ 3 unlocked for the first time, the devil himself was even in it.

One hell of a turning point for a martial arts tournament 👏👏.

I'm pretty sure that's widely considered the case when looking at the big 4 sagas of DBZ - but if you look at all dragon ball content as a whole, it's far from the worst saga

I like it, but it doesn't compare to the previous sagas. Toriyama ran out of ideas so it was a bit of an unnecessary addition to the series.

💥SPOILERS💥

...I agree somewhat, at the time that the eng dub was finally coming out for Buu Saga for 1st time in the states (2001-2002), I was hitting adulthood and anime was fading away from my life...

I AM grateful that I got to finally watch The Android/Cell Saga in my late teens. I had just moved back to the states when I first found anime. DBZ was on a loop for a while, never getting past beginning of Frieza/Goku battle on Namek.

The excitement and joy when the announcement of new dubs, to a 16/17 yr old was ALMOST equivalent to popping my 🍒 in that same time frame.

I've never re-watched, or even got into Super. I, like many others, mourned the passing of Mr. Toriyama. But, I want to remember his beautiful characters/work, the way it hit me way back when.

Around 03,04, I finally did complete, after it was fully dubbed. By then, video games, anime, and the sort were just about extinct in my life. I did enjoy Majin Vegeta/Goku battle, but what Gohan became after Cell Saga was disappointing tbh... I know he was in school, Goku not around, etc. But HE was the strongest on planet... *eh, nuff complainin'.

Ngl tho, Goku going level 3 for the first time, was dope af. Halo added extra clout fr. 😎

edit: took image out, someone just put it(SSJ3), peace!

The fact that it had some flaws and became extremely long is undeniable. But it's not the worst. In fact DBZ doesn't have any bad arcs. But it amazingly managed to portrait the evilness and horrifying power of Buu. The arc was a literal race against time. The fusion, Vegeta's sacrifice, SSJ3, the destruction of Earth and everyone on it and the impact it had on us, I'll never forget them. Maybe the most beautiful thing about this arc was the fight that took place on Kaioshin's planet. It was so stressing. Anyway, even with all its ups and downs, this arc was absolutely incredible.

The Buu Saga was airing when I was in elementary school. It's really what brought me into DBZ at a young age. So obvious nostalgia factor for me.
I'm a big fan of Dabura and also love the Great Saiyaman and Videl.
Hercule, Buu, and the puppy also crushed my young heart.

The whole point of the Buu saga is that Toriyama was going back to his gag manga roots with dragon ball, so the manga feels like it went full circle. Starting full gag, slowly becoming more serious and action focused, staying that way for a while, then going back to gag. It’s not all gag though, The Vegeta stuff in particular is the best part of the saga, but overall yes it’s supposed to be a return to form. People who read or watched dragon ball from the beginning are likely more sympathetic to this concept than people who started with Z/Saiyan saga.

That is a pretty common opinion honestly. I have a lot of nostalgia for the Buu Saga, and there are some arcs like the Saiyaman Arc, that I actually really really like. It's definitely one of the weaker arcs in DB Original/Z though (I need to give GT a revisit and I haven't watched anything new in the DB universe). I don't like the fact Goku is the hero again instead of Gohan (the fans in fact aren't always right), the fact becoming a SJ is easy all of a sudden however, I don't actually agree with the take regarding Buu himself. He is a great antagonist. I actually like him more than Cell. There were some great fights too, Vegito vs Super Buu was pretty memorable, as was the final fight.

I also believe it. In fact, I didn't even finish it, and it was the saga that made me leave the series (which I had actually been watching since 1989-1990, which is sad). I haven't seen anything from there. Nor anything from the new series.

It's really really badly done. specially when I reached a final reasoning: Buu is sealed once way back then... why are they keeping up with the idea of destroying him with energy? 🤣 it's obviously not impossible but tougher this way... and all those comings and goings mostly powered by fillers in the arc could've been avoidable but toei's gonna be... oof.

Yeah it was definitely my least favorite from Z and does feel a little bit different than the first three. However it is a pretty “fun” arc to put it in a good way and has a lot of cool stuff. Loved seeing grown up Gohan training with the kais, ssj3, majin vegeta & vegeto.

Buu saga is my favorite saga, but no you’re not alone it’s a lot of people’s least favorite. Then again, I liked all of Z except for the garlic jr filler saga. (if you even call it one)

Out of my 3 rewatches I’ve watched all the filler but I’ll ALWAYS skip the garlic jr saga.

its generally considered to be the worst dbz arc.

The flaws are wasting Gotenks and Gohan in favor of what will eventually become the Goku-Vegeta show. It just made no sense to build up the next generation and then throw them out to the trash.

Having said that, the Kid Buu portion is insanely good.

It's fantastic. All 4 Z arcs are great. Is buu arc the lesser of the 4? Hard call. I often enjoy it just as much and sometimes more than the Cell Saga. Sayian Saga is probably the lesser of the 4 if I had to pick one. Namek is #1. It's build up is started with the Sayian Saga. The last two are basically stand alone arcs.

Gohan got Cell. It could have been Gohan but it wasnt necessary. Ultimate/Mystic Gohan was never going to be the end of Z. Goten and Trunks weren't strong enough for full power Buu. It had to be Goku. It was his story all the way from Chapter 1. Obviously Toriyama planned on that being the end. It took 20 year for the Canon story to return.

Worst saga of DBZ for sure but with that said I still like it overall and wouldn’t say it’s bad but it is the weakest. Now in all of dragon ball no I don’t think it’s the worst that would go to Resurrection F imo.

I'm sorry but bringing Goku and Vegeta back from the dead was an ass idea. Goku himself stated Buu wasn't his enemy to beat and that the next generation needed to do it.

Gotenks not being powerful enough is not a bad thing. Who wants a story where the protagonist is already stronger than the enemy? That's boring. There's no tension.

No, I'm sure many see the Buu Saga that way. It seemed to me like it was made sort of out of resentment for DBZ fans. I don't get the impression that Toriyima appreciated that DBZ became his most popular work and emphasized some of the most popular elements from previous sagas so strongly as to parody them in the buu saga.

I could be totally wrong, though. It's also been a very long time since I watched it.

I totally agree.
The Buu saga was not needed.
It felt like a redo of previous arcs, just with new characters.
It kept stretching like it was artificially padded to milk more sales.
The story should've finished with the cell saga.

Im really durable to watch fillers/no sense things but ill be honest, buu saga had insanely boring fillers. Also im hating gotenks too just because making the arc even much boring...

It’s one thing to crap on the buu saga but saying the fights in that arc are “forgettable” is just flat out an opinion straight from a trash can.

Different era mate. When I was 20, the year was 2001, anime was still niche hobby, at least in the area of USA where I was. Sure Pokémon was coming out and other stuff in the states as well. But I was furthering education, getting into the workforce, getting into different social activities/relationships, etc. So that's what I meant as far as leaving anime.

For video games, I stuck with PS2 thru most of it's lifetime, tho I didn't care for the online route the video gaming industry was going at that time, ex. FF10, I loved. FF11 transition to MMORPG as well as other changes lost me as well. At 25, married = Solo hobby extinction.

Divorced by 31, did not think of anime or video games until covid lockdown time... around 39, 40. So yeah, long story short, don't get married.

Forget the last bit, I was kidding. There's somebody for everybody, we just have to keep making an effort. I can joke about it now, but it want fun going thru the big D.

As far as video games now, I'm a dinosaur with even simple systems like the Switch. I am looking forward to Tensura game for it in August tho, and am playing Triangle Strategy for it now.

Always told myself as a kid in the 90s playing SNES and PS1, that I would never stop playing video games. 😔 Unfortunately I did, and there was an almost 20 yr void. I am grateful that I came back.

Don't stop brother...
