I've checked, and sure enough, the ratings were in the top 10. This is something I did not know.

Based on this article, the ratings were indeed #4. However, in the same month, the Smart TV Viewing & Recorder Playback Percentage for January anime was outside the top 10 and not in the rankings. Also, the anime with the highest ratings are basically those that do not air in the late night slot. In addition, since the Corona craze, more and more people have been watching works via online distribution, so viewership ratings no longer equal popular works or hits.
Incidentally, a Japanese website called AniKore ranks the fall 2020 TV anime 39th in terms of ratings. If it were a real hit, it would be in the top 10. https://www.anikore.jp/chronicle/2020/autumn/ac:tv/page:2
Also, if you look at the wiki, it says that it was cancelled due to low ratings and poor sales. The broadcaster also announced that they will not be making a sequel, so I doubt that one will be made in the future.
Another problem is that the original author did not comment favorably on this work, and in an interview in the official guidebook and Shonen Sunday S., he asked, "Are you really going to do it? That was my honest impression." and left a negative opinion about the sequel.

Initially, it was stated that the company would like to restart the "Inuyasha World" and continue to expand its media development as the Sengoku Gogaisoshi series. There was a time when the official side also called this work the first original anime work in the Rumikku World. However, due to the devastating setting and scenario, which were so far removed from the original "Inuyasha," as well as sluggish viewer ratings and poor sales, the decision was made to discontinue the series after the second chapter, for which a slot had been reserved from the beginning. The broadcaster also announced that there were no plans for a sequel, and media development ended completely as of April 2022.
Issues
Denial by related parties
Since its broadcast, the original author as well as the voice actors in charge of the main characters have repeatedly expressed doubts about the setting of the work.
Finally, I am a Japanese living in Japan, and I saw almost no merchandise during the broadcast, nor did I see anyone mention the name as something that was popular. |
