technically, you can circumvent the layout changes if you use firefox with stylish themes installed or with chrome as a greasemonkey script (although it's not as seamless as stylish). you can look through here to find the fix that fits your needs

I'd rather not bother spending time and effort trying to circumvent the new layout when adding the option to use the old style should be ridiculously easy unless Xinil decided to chuck away the code and all the backups containing said code for the old layout. Though thanks for the links!

I'm not really all that bothered about the new layout changes and can stomach them just fine, but its rather annoying not having the option to use the old/classic style.

Mh... I think it looks good, though I'm still not sure if I like the size of the header...
I'm sure there are things that are better now, haven't checked out too much yet, but as everytime it comes to a site's style updates, it'll take me quite some time to find what I'm looking for... which is plainly annoying if you don't plan to spend time on learning the new navigation but simply want to make some updates or something...

So, long story short: I think PimpToad's suggestion would be perfect. You could take your time getting used to the new stuff while still being able to use the old one when you just wanna get stuff "done" =)

Dragon_Empress: Daaaamn, angry much?

I do take everyone's suggestions to heart. I cannot however, change something when the final decision does not rest in my hands. This layout change is not controlled by me. I had influence in how it looked, but there was no way to go around it.

So, with that being said. Think of ways to IMPROVE the layout we're stuck with, and I'll gladly use those suggestions to better the site.

The only thing that needs to be IMPROVED is this fucking lag that MAL is experiencing as of late.

It's no wonder you get responses like that when you change the layout before even addressing the issue of the lag, which I KNOW has been brought up numerous times.

If you can't do anything about it, that's cool, just TELL US so, instead of just saying nothing about the issue. Having an hour lag time on a site is not cool.
You've come a long way, baby.

After giving it some time to 'adjust' and give it a chance, I can safely say I completely hate the new style. An option to switch the to old one would be pretty okay.

What I personally find annoying is that only after some high profile users speak out against the admin's latest move does he care to step off from his high throne and provide an answer (effectively throwing the blame on someone else).

If you took people's suggestions to heart, you would have taken the time to reply here ever once in a while. I don't think that happened for the first few tens of pages.

If you can't control your own website, then why are you the admin here? This site is not free, it's a SERVICE you pay for by being exposed to pretty annoying ads, unless you use something sane like adblock. Still, whenever I use other browsers to get here, I'm assaulted by half porn half wargames ads.

certainly what it sounds like..i just wonder if all these users would be happy if there was a like "site updates" section and or thread that Xinil or mods could edit weekly so then dosen't require much work and everyone wouldn't be in the dark. i honestly don't care so much i'm just trying to say what they want in a more organized and possible way then just complaining all the time.

That is so uncool. That is positively puerile.

There are a lot of things wrong in MAL. Timely information is always greatly appreciated. I always think that the reason they don't always keep us up-to-date is because they're trying to work the kinks out. Plus, they have real life to contend with. While a number of things in MAL may be annoying, lashing out at someone else is so uncivil, useless and counterproductive.

Sorry if this has been posted before.

I do notice with the new main menu that the hovering menu appear behind some adverts. like this:

If it helps I think the flash from the adverts need to have transparency set to true when they are embedded, not sure if that is something that can be controlled for syndicated adverts though?

I would like to say I would not dislike the new layout at all if I had that option.
( also don't bother posting that link to the place to get that firefx theme or gresse monkey thign in a repsonse to this post, I knwo of it already and I am not going to use it, as I avoid downlaods like the plauge.)

I am not sure what is more clearly organized, but I liked a lil more the older layout. It looked more friendly and it was easier to move around in it, since all could be accesed from one column. And for some reason the word industry is kind of annoying me X)
..away from that..Great site! keep on goin! =)

Yo Xinil, can clicking on "anime" take us to our lists, and not this page? Same for manga.

Honestly, I don't think I give a shit about that page, I think almost everyone checks their list a lot more than looks at that page. The list _is_ the main purpose of this website anyways.

edit:

And can clicking on "Community" take us to forums?

I don't care too much about industry, but I suggest it takes us to news? It may actually increase the amount people look at news, which could be a good thing for the site.

Lastly,

Is that supposed to all be on one side?

New design is fine and all, but the site is still broken! I mean, most of the control elements and anime list management simply does not work since months, which is why I stopped to frequent the site.

Browser: Firefox 3.5
OS: Ubuntu/Linux 09.10

Only for this forum page, the W3C validator already spits out the ridiculous amount of 195 errors and 63 warnings: http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fmyanimelist.net%2Fforum%2F%3Ftopicid%3D150699%26show%3D1640&charset=%28detect+automatically%29&doctype=Inline&group=0

Other pages manage even more. Get serious man, this is a joke!

Are you kidding me?! the Google page is one of the most complex things I've ever seen. They build their pages with java, then compile it to JavaScript and then obfuscate/shrink it. They optimize it for every browser engine out there.

If myAnimeList.net would be even remotely as complex as the google sites, than it would probably spit out thousands of errors.

The most important difference I care for is still the following: google works (never seen it fail) - myAnimeList.net does not work (the control element are not responding and the site is bascially unsuable). Go figure..

Maybe some examples and screen shots and code snippets would help more, rather than bitching about something, which seem to work for majority except for you. Make a tread in the support forums and elaborate your problems.

I do not have problems with this site with Chrome, Firefox and IE and tried both on Linux and Windows based systems. Go figure...
