I feel like this is the first time we heard Mizore speak outside of Liz and the Blue Bird
@Pixel_Vapour If I remember correctly, Mizore spoke in the 2nd season several times. The one I remember vividly is her speaking to Kumiko before the final concert.

What a lovely installment! I have to say, it was especially refreshing to get a fun, lower stakes, drama-free story. ^^

I thought the plot was good, particularly as a showcase for Kumiko's growth in her role as president; it really does feel like this is what she was meant for (which I wouldn't have expected in seasons 1 and 2, so that goes to show how sophisticated the writing is)! It was nice to see more of some of the first-year students as well.

Oh, and the animation was gorgeous! I never get tired of those river shots. x)

Man did I ever choose the perfect time to watch this, the day before season 3 starts."Ensemble Contest" makes a great addition to the rest of the series, not just for it's fantastic quality in literally every single department (as per usual with KyoAni works), but for it's rather simple plot of a 3-8 man ensemble audition instead of the usual brass band competition.

I like how this still takes place in Kumiko's second year still. Since after the last movie they still had some time before Natsuki, Nozomi, Mizore, and Yuuko's year graduates; and yes, I had to say each of their names. Also glad that they got some screen time in this film. Granted they had like a good half of season 2 and a whole movies worth of screen time, but it's still nice to see them even if only for a little bit. Also it's great to see more of Reina, can't tell if it's that she didn't get enough screen time in Chikai no Finale or that it's just been a while since I've seen her. Pretty sure the answer to both is 'yes'.

Anyways, really loved this film and I'm beyond excited for the new season tomorrow!

That was pleasant.

I will denote though, it was nearly jarring how slower-paced the OVA was when I had only watched the 'Finale' movie just a few days before, which in comparison was blitz-paced with just how many things were happening.

other than that, only complaint I can muster is that the OST in the background of some the scenes were jarringly undeliberate ?

Guess they didn't get to perform at the festival, great episode anyway. Kumiko is a great leader and I'm really happy they decided to use a new ost, even though I love the old one

A nice special episode showing an interesting contest between groups. I expected that they would show only a little of it, but I enjoyed anyways. Turns out that an idea born in indecision worked.

@Pixel_Vapour @Shikkakku The whole first half of season 2 was about her and Nozomi lol. I saw a lot of people who forgot about them in Liz and the Blue Bird discussions too, I wonder why. Yeah I know it's easier for me because I'm binging this, but still.

Just watched it in the theater in Japan. Feels like another filler, but better than previous movies, and it’s good seeing the characters again.

7.5/10
I heard the movies were recaps, is this one some sort of recap as well?

Most of the previous movies except Liz and the Blue Bird were recaps yes (with some original content, I think especially in the last movie) but this one is a new side-story preceding the next season that's due to come out next year.
@Shikkakku The 3rd movie, Chikai no Finale, was not a recap, it's a sequel to the first 2 seasons

@Marmotzel Yes, I was mistaken back then. I had forgotten.

Didn't actually hear much by actual performances this time around, but it's good to see them progress and keep aiming forwards!
