@CaptainYossarian

Only got about five that are rated 10, so this is gonaa be short.

Cowboy Bebop is beyond excellent, definitley deserves a ten...and not just because I also rated it 10. The movie on the other hand deserves a 9 in my opinion. I felt that the movie couldn't top the anime, mostly because I think that the movie drags on more then it should have. Don't get me wrong it was a great movie, but the anime just gave more to offer.

as for Honey and Clover, Millennium Actress, and Planetes, I haven't watched them so I have nothing to say about them.

-Cowboy Bebop, great series, just not a 10 for me, but I see how it can be for most people
-DBZ....nostalgically, yes, logically no
-another TTGL 10! hooray!
-Haruhi...I didn't like this show. I didn't hate it either, although I did hate Haruhi herself, I found it average, I still don't get all the hype for it
-I'm currently watching GITS, but apparently haven't hit any Complex episodes where it gets good. I didn't like the first 3 eps, apparently they were all Stand Alones

Since you seem to be cursed with only getting evaluations from people who haven't seen most of your 10's, I, having seen all of them, will participate in this thread.

Interstella: Yuck NO. Maybe I just don't like techno, maybe I just don't care for the 'music changes/obsesses the world/galaxy' mindset, maybe I was just disturbed by how inferior it was to Matsumoto's other works, but I did not like it. Guitar-ship man was the only interesting character, and they killed him off. I only watched to the end because I was hoping they'd pull one of those back-from-the-dead plot twists and give him a happy end, but it was boring either way.

LOGH-If I was to form a top 10 list, it would be there, but it certainly wasn't THAT great for me. This might sound strange for a series of such a huge scale, but I wish they'd spent more time on the setting. Like the economies and societies and resources of individual planets. As someone who enjoys IRL history, it felt like various factors were left out or inadequately explained. I suppose there wasn't time for more than what we got, or maybe I'll be contented when I watch the gaidens. At least it's already awesome.

Metropolis-amazing animation, cool style, but I didn't like most of the characters. They killed off Wakamoto-bot halfway through and kept giving Rock the short end of the stick when he was a million times more interesting than the protagonist. The plot was interesting and more unique than most distopia stuff, and I laughed when the robot girl(who I did like, but could've been better) was beating up the main guy. Decent movie, but I don't see what was amazing about it.

Princess Tutu-yes agree love we're pals now kthnx.

GL-again lacking in depth, not enough done for minor characters, but fun for the over-the-top yelling from mechs that it is. Post-timeskip was shallower than the earlier stuff(riding around in a spaceship shooting at stuff to save the girl was pretty bland next to the earlier battles). A hell of a lot cooler and better thought out than most hot-blood and/or scifi/mech action tends to be. Pretty darn cool and respectable.

@-BLACKBEARD-
Gurren Lagann & Toward the Terra were great. Toward the Terra suffered from some issues in writing that prevented me from giving it a 10 (and if I ever get around to rewatching it my score might go down anyway, but lowest it’ll get is a 7 or 8). Overall, it was a solid release with some interestingly updated old school storytelling.

And I’m not gonna lie, I liked DBZ. But compared to what it came from (Dragon Ball), DBZ took itself a little too seriously and was plagued by awful pacing almost from start to finish. The first few arcs were the strongest. By the time Namek was in full swing, the pacing was getting ridiculous. I thought that the character dynamics and animation were redeeming factors, though.

Claymore I have to disagree with you on tho’, particularly due to its over-reliance on poorly-written melodrama, superficial characterization, crummy soundtrack, and generally-poor animation quality that was hampered even more by somewhat low production values. I thought the manga was pretty cool (while I was reading it, but I eventually lost interest in that as well), but the biggest detriment to the anime was its inability to maintain the same level of detail present in the comic. As a result, the totally badass awakened creatures came off as rubbery & fake in comparison. Though taken on their own terms, both the manga & the anime suffered from pacing issues anyway—it’s just that in the comic’s case I was able to look past that because of the gorgeous artwork. The anime simply failed to deliver IMO.

^ Merridian--- Ah... Quite a few I am not aware of. But of the ones I have watched:

Neon Genesis Evangelion: Regardless of how amazing it was from a psychological standpoint, in my opinion, I felt the story wasn't particularly outstanding nor were the characters particularly likeable (though that might have been the point). And frankly, the ending annoyed me to no end. I haven't seen the End of Evangelion, though, so my opinion may not be entirely justified.

Castle in the Sky: I saw it quite a long while ago so I don't remember entirely, but I remember liking it so I'll agree with you.

Cowboy Bebop: Entirely, yes. Just yes.

TTGL: Ah, I am nearly done watching this one myself. I'd probably give it an 8 or 9 so far. Personally, I find most of the characters rather shallow and annoying, though that could easily change in the next few episodes. But I admit, it is entirely epic.

Cowboy Bebop
One of my favorites but not 10 imo.... 9.5 from me, 9 in the list :D

^@Algirdyz:
TTGL & Texhnolyze I agree with completely. :D Nice to see another Texhnolyze fan out there. The Samurai X Trust/Betrayal OVA was cool as well, I can see why you rated it a 10. Apart from the more recent Sword of the Stranger, it’s one of the few good blood-soaked sword-oriented anime works out there.

@Nottori:
I’m rather surprised you were underwhelmed by NGE’s story, but I guess it just won’t resonate with some people as with others. Part of NGE’s beauty is how uniquely (with varying degrees of subtlety) it subverted, deconstructed, and ultimately squashed many of the sci-fi/mecha archetypes & tropes. Combined with Anno’s extraordinary cinematography, NGE is just pure win in my book.

Similar to how NGE ripped the genre apart, TTGL essentially put it back together & made it awesome again, throwing its weight all the way back into the pre-Gundam days of Mazinger, Raideen, etc., where things happened without the need for explanation. Yet TTGL’s greatness was that it wasn’t just some outdated tribute, it actually incorporated lolGainax aspects into its core, making it an indelible part of sci-fi/mecha anime in a post-NGE industry. I found it pretty incredible that it could combine tribute, parody, and progression into one package so well (not to mention all the things it does within its own context).
Nottori said:

lol Yeah, I’ve been rewatching Miyazaki’s catalogue recently so my ratings for his movies have been seeing some revisions as of late. Nausicaa had a 10 immediately after the rewatch last week, but I shifted that down after some consideration. Castle in the Sky got boosted up from an 8 after I really looked at how good it succeeded at being an adventure film.

Re: your own list
Death Note I never got into. I’d started reading the manga a few years ago as it was coming out in the ‘States, but I dropped it after the writers pulled a real cheap move and tried to mask it with a “plot twist”. Killing off antagonist No. 1 without prior introduction of secondary antagonist—and THEN continuing the narrative with hitherto unmentioned antagonists is just poor storytelling. Up until that point the story was just ludicrous enough for me enjoy reading, but I couldn’t get into it enough to think it was awesome. I had no desire to check out the series.

Eden of the East was great Kenji Kamiyama fun, but as a self-contained series it left too much unresolved for me to rank it any higher than 8. I’m hoping the movies come out good.

There were a few 10's in you're list that I haven't seen but those that I have seen:

Cowboy Bebop is a great series and I think it deserves every 10 it gets so very big thumbs up for that.

Then there were those classic movies (Akira, Ghost in the Shell) though which I wouldn't give 10's but I understand I someone would give because they are excllent movies.

But then there was Berserk. 10 for the anime? It was okay series in my mind or so I thought it was untill I started reading the manga. Though even before I even started reading it, I thought it had a few major problems. I definetly disagree with you there.

Overall the series/movies that you gave 10 were fairly good (atleast the ones I have seen) and the list is pretty good.

I definitely agree that Ruorouni Kenshin Tsuiokuhen is a masterpiece. Everything was perfect in it.
Cowboy Bebop got a 10 from me just after I completed it, but later on, I downgraded it to 9. Something's missing in it to call it a masterpiece :) Same thing goes for the movie.
Havent seen the other ones.

Code Geass - Yes. Defnitely. Glad to see you rated the second season lower.
TTGL - No surprise there.
Texhnolyze - I've been coming across this name too frequently now. And i'v been hearing good things about it. But I don't like depressing anime. It's still ther in my PtW.

-man, your list is kinda hard to read, that white font just kinda disappears into Spike if you ask me
-Cowboy Bebop, good stuff, not quite a 10 for me, but good stuff nontheless
-Gankutsuou....I'm debating dropping this one on a visuals basis, but I was enjoying it. Either way if I had finished it, those visuals would keep it from ever being a 10 for me.
-Kino's Journey is a great series, I've been meaning to rewatch it, I'm fairly certain my score would go up at least one.
-LoGH, 10 here too :P
-Monster...I find it rather overrated and with little rewatch value personally, I liked it the first time, but never truly loved it.

I haven't seen any of your 10's but I can say a few things. The Aoi Bungaku Series I just looked up sounds fantastic and has great artists behind it, so you may have peaked my interest in viewing this series. I've been meaning to watch the Kara No Kyoukai's and Code Geass so its good to hear more praise from those awaiting my attention. Lastly there is the Rurouni Kenshin OVA's this series gets a lot of positive attention but I've never been bothered to watch it yet, so another positive review of the series and apparently excellent OVA's may help me get to watching them.

Black Lagoon: The Second Barrage - I watched this one without knowing it was second season and then searched unfortunately for this supposed second season. I don’t think this is worth ten. There is many good shows and this one is one of them but not 10.
Eureka Seven - I couldn’t get into Eureka. First 15 episodes were pain to watch. But the ideas behind the show were nice.
Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu . I laughed to this one. It was fun. Easy going show for long evenings.
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni - But there were so many plot holes, which never got explanation. I am sure that they were explained in game, but not here. Point down.
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann - I once rated it 10 before I watched Law of Ueki and found it superior. I like strategy based battles better than power based ones.

Baccano!: very awesome show with lovely music and characters. I rated this 9 because it was rather short.

Terra e... : pretty underrated sci-fi anime with a pretty deep story. Isn't as good as the seikai series though.

Haibane Renmei: Show I still have to watch because I am scared that it will be too dramatic

Bokurano: Haven't watched but it's on my too watch list

Princess Tutu: ^

Kemono no Souja Erin: One of the best shows of last season. People call this a kids show but it turned out to be one of my fav shows of last year... Erin is <3

Aoi Bangaku Series: dropped after 2 episodes because of lack of subs... might check it out later

-Cowboy Bebop, while good for me, just wasn't a 10 for me.
-I find Monster massively overrated, having little rewatch/reread value doesn't help this figure for me.
-Girl Who Leapt Through Time's ending was just awful and felt rushed to me, even if I liked the rest of the movie well enough
-I need to check out Aria because Junichi Sato is amazing
-I saw most of Nausicaa on TV ages ago, I really dislike Miyazaki and the heroine of the story is one of my main reasons why, I just don't think she's as right as she and Miyazaki both think she is, I really dislike his story and characters, but that's just me.

10 to FMA? weird i think brotherhood is much more better.
i guess that i shouldn't say anything about Haruhi, cause i really disliked the series from the beginning

CANAAN - It was okay. I liked the characters, especially the awesome taxi driver, but the plot didn't seem to know what story it wanted to tell. Action scenes were nice, though.

Elfen Lied - Well, the show has a lot of blood and a good soundtrack. Unofortunately I didn't like the mix between gory drama and harem comedy. Still, it was a wild ride.

Mushishi - I've read the first volume of the manga, seemed pretty good. I'm sure the anime's visuals are astonishing.

Samurai Champloo - A fine example of a good action anime. This show introduced me to jazz rap, which I am very grateful of.

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei - One of my favourite shows. I personally wouldn't give it a 10, since some of the jokes are a bit of a hit-or-miss.

Spirited Away - Haven't seen this myself, for some reason. Still, the movie must be at least somewhat good if it got an Oscar.

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann - Absolutely agree with your 10. No action show has got me so pumped up as TTGL.

Welcome to the NHK - I liked this a lot. The characters are realistic and the problems they face could happen to anyone. Still, the animation quality changes drastically from time to time so I propably wouldn't give it a 10.

As for Gintama, I haven't seen it myself but I've heard only good things about it. The screen caps look like fun so I definitely need to check this out someday.

Monster - The manga has great characters, realistic portrayal of Post-Cold War Europe and intensive plot twists; I like it a lot. Most people don't like the slow pacing of the anime but I'm glad you loved the show.

Romeo x Juliet - I should watch this someday. Studio Gonzo does scare me, though.

@Hawaiian420: of the ones I’ve seen, I agree with most of 'em—Akira, Berserk, Ninja Scroll, and TTGL are particularly awesome. Eden of the East ended far too unresolved for me to give it a 10 (but depending on how the movies turn out I might up the rating).

The only ones I really disagree with are Welcome to the NHK—which had a fantastic first half that really fell apart with crummy writing in the second half—and Black Lagoon, which was just way too underwhelming. Black Lagoon promised awesome gunfights, violence, and generally badass everything—but what it delivered was more clichéd melodrama, shoddy monologues bathed in dull and overdone pop-philosophy, and only superficially interesting characters. It really felt like it pulled a lot of its punches in the violence department, sadly.

All the anime you have given 10 are indeed class acts and i can see why you would want to give them a perfect score. I am in totally agreement about Cowboy Beebop as its one of my all time favourites series of anything!

The ony thing i would say is maybe wrong is "Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann"... I agree that the characther design and artstyle and animation is amazing... even the overall story is quite good... but i think the way the show is paced and how the storyline is developed is abit gamey almost!! The show just kinda explodes into these upgrade in power and you end up feeling like its just a case of rinise and repeat and that no matter the odds the humans will win.

-Mmmm, Baccano! Also similar, we rated the side OVA 1 lower than the main series.
-I must disagree with Death Note, the first half was getting damn close to 10 for me, but the 2nd half? No, not at all, killed 10 potential for me.
-10 for Howl's? Strange, most Miyazaki fans seem to rate that movie low. I hate Miyazaki, so I'll just leave it at that and I hated Princess Mononoke too.
-I've started watching the Kara no Kyoukai series, I've only seen the first one, but I seem to see a lot of 10s for at least 1 of the movies. The first movie has only convinced me to keep watching for now.
-Mushi-shi is always a "hell yes!", just wish they would give us more!

@ Yukari

Never watched 5 CPS, so I can't say much on that. However just about anything made by His Majesty The King of Anime Hayao Miyazaki I believe deserves a 10 so I agree with you on those animes. Death Note however good and addicting, I don't think deserved a 10. Just seemed to me like the plot kinda stalled out, recovered, but not at the same altitude (plane geek talk here) around

Unfortunately everything else I never watched, please forgive me and my due lack of watching anime. V_V I'm sure they were all good regardless though. :)

@kevin: Have only seen 5 Centimeters per Second and it does deserve its 10. Animation, sound, characters and the way the story is told. Everything about it was perfect.

Gintama- Yeah, it deserves a 10. Really awesome except for some eps like the 'hard boiled egg' one.

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni- It was awesome, but the art and animation could've been so much better.

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai- I thought it was a letdown. Not scary.

School Days- Liked it in the psychological sense, but hated all the damn characters.
