i really wanna watch it, but it's heavily science based. so, i might won't understand some things properly... what kind of concepts/theory i should know before watching it?

edited: one more thing, should i watch it in dub or sub for better understanding?

I don't think you need to huge science acknowledge, everything it's well explained in the anime

simple chemics and physics should do, if you want to understand and comprehend everything you should be around highschool niveau (you'll probably enjoy it even with close to 0 knowledge about science)

It is not based on actual science, it has surface level discussions, but that’s not really important to the main story.
Note: I don’t lazily watch 3-5 episodes, biasedly compare to other anime, or unfairly judge by surface level similarities. With every anime I start, I watch the entire series, both Japanese Sub & English Dub, then judge each anime based on what they present, to give an honest and fair rating.

You need to watch at least three seasons of Rick & Morty and whole Futurama.

There's a lot of techno-babble thrown in it, but I believe most of it can be understood if you at least superficially remember science topics up to high school and some modern pop-science subjects along with it.

The show also references a bunch real-world science research organizations, and some internet history events and hardware from the 80's and 90's (which you can skim through but could also just Google if you'd so desire).

S;G does a great work at explaining most things itself and the most complex science ideas are just hypothetical IRL and chosen to support the story, so it doesn't really matter if you have in-depth knowledge of the theories it explores since they are just used to set the rules for time travel in the S;G universe and don't necessarily apply to the real world. It is a work of fiction after all, so the logical details don't really matter.

Not much. Most of the concepts are easy to understand as you follow along, the hardest idea to grasp would be the butterfly effect but as you continue watching it all falls into place.

Well, you have to win the Nobel Prize in theoretical physics and should have a good background in AdS/CFT and SuSy.

/s

Honestly "common sense" is enough to understand Steins;Gate. As long as you're careful about what you're watching and what the characters are taking, you're good.

You need at least 2 phds in modern physics.

No, frankly, you don't need any.

do you know how to open and close a microwave?
if yes
then youre good

jks aside, the thing about steins gate that works ur brain is the concept of time, most movies and s3ries that involve the concept of time allways leave watchers with mixed ideas about causality, like "due to action A, the character past changed or the timeline is only one that keeps going forward"

Do you really think the 3rd highest rated anime on mal is locked behind people that know science? That’s not the case. Anyone can watch and enjoy steins gate.

My worst subject in highschool was science
that subject was the most confusing thing to ever exist
but I still absolutely followed what was going on in the show!
as some have said it does a good job of explaining what happened/happening
of course that's not to say it's easy for everyone
this show is a slow burner that throws people off from watching
but it has become one of my favorite of all times
just give some episodes a try and if you can't get into it then so be it

Basic high school physics should be enough, or even knowledge from middle school, depending what is the education system in your country and its leading education programme.

But to be fair, you don't need to worry about not getting this show, even if you are or were not into science at school. Everything is explained in a decent way, so no need to worry about that.

It’s fairly simple to understand regardless of your scientific knowledge. I barely passed high school honors physics, and I could still follow along.

Also, I’d recommend the dub. Not for understanding the science behind it, I just think the actors do an amazing job.

Dub gives a good enough explanation. So that might work otherwise it's your choice watch it however you like.

The less you understand of the scientific concepts, the better.

I don't watch dubs, but purely judging on understandability it'll probably be identical as the subtitles will likely be dubtitles.

There will be certain things called out or reference in the show that might seem unfamiliar to you. Most of those will be things that already exist in real life. They'll be explained in the show itself, but you could always google the meaning of those things.

Watch the subbed version.

The culture references are a bigger hurdle than the science. Dub all the way. I had to google some of what they were saying and rewatch it three times. They’ll give expository info about most of the important details.

I watched it twice, once when I didn't know much about time travel and once after I played lots of game/ watched shows about it. I felt like I enjoyed it more with prior knowledge, but it doesn't really matter because it explains stuff in the anime anways.

There is a thread exactly like this one that was created a month ago, you could have read that thread and get all your answers there.

And I can say with confidence that Steins;Gate has one of the best English dubs in the anime industry, I still recommend watching it with subs, but you can't go wrong with the English dubs either.

There are some things that the English dubs do better than the original Japanese dubs and vice versa, I honestly prefer the English dubs in the slice-of-life moments, the Japanese dub is better when shit hits the fan.
