Some great animation but this whole Mechamaru excursion felt rather sloppy from a writing standpoint (and that's beyond my distaste of the trope of shouting out move names that mean nothing to the audience with abilities that go unexplained). Just on a deeper, structural level, this was a very odd segment. Was that way in the manga too. It wasn't foreshadowed (or if it was it wasn't enough) that there was a mole. The emotional beats of his death fell kind of flat with how sudden and cliche it was, especially with how much of a side character he was. And his logic for staying and fighting was lacking, he should have just ran (and if that's not the case it wasn't communicated properly). The maid and butler dialogue later with Fushiguro and that one side character was another example of some really ham-fisted exposition.

Big L for losing Mecha-CHAD-maru
Mahito can shove this 🖕🏻 in his fuckable fucking ass

And just tell me one thing (cuz' it triggered the shit outta me) is Mahito reeeeeeally this strong or is he just plot-armored for some shit ? (I know who are his next victims, so feel free about spoilers)

Outcome of the fight was obvious, was telegraphed that Mechamaru was going to lose so any tension was lost. Was a fun fight all the same but could have been better if I thought there was even the slightest chance he could have won.

Looks like his fight was like an exhibition match, real battle will be starting now.

I hoped Muta/Mecha-maru alive for Miwa. On the other hand, i love sounds effects and Music for Mecha-maru like Evangelion.

@D-A-W not forshadowed anymore. Both Gojo & Utahime literally said "there is a mole in jujutsu tech" on S1 twice. Tho it's been 3 years since S1 came out so I understand why people forget about this tbh.

And he can't run away if he wanted to tbh. The moment Mahito fight Mecha inside the building, Geto is already outside creating the veil. Just go rewatch it, you can't see Geto anymore after Mahito fight 1-2 puppets.

The visual effect was lagging but physical effect is already got installed. It already explained by Gojo in S1 cour 2 in Kyoto Goodwill arc, that the effect of Geto veils is already taken place even before the visual effect appears.

@D-A-W Imo the plot was okay but the action sequence was really odd. It was no doubt well animated but the style and color of it did not feel in JJK's theme. This is highlighted in the Pigeon Viola scene. The chase was brilliant but the color choice was so off. Felt like they were animating for a different show altogether.

I would say the whole, last ditch mini Mechamaru charge also felt out of place. Like it makes sense he might have a backup plan, but a mini Mechamaru bursting out from under his cockpit..? Just seems way too random. Mahito pierced his armor, the dude coughed out blood like he was hit, then proceeded to retialiate with no visible body wounds. So is he injured or not? And when he summoned mini Mechamaru, it didnt show him enter it, but when it got destroyed he suddenly popped out, so was he in it or not? Messy scene with poor continuity that tries to oversaturate the viewer and hide the lack of logic. Its a sequence that didnt make sense.

The episode is well put together that's why i give it a 4/5. However it's progression was predictable and the outcome could be discerned in the early part of the episode that's why I took a point away.

3.5/5

Action packed first half with mixed animation. Not fluid all the time but the color compositions were a visual delight

Mahito is a tough bastard, dodging Mechamaru's attacks like it's a walk in the park. Definitely got pressed enough to showcase his domain expansion though. Mecha got too confident and got dealt with pretty easily, nothing too extraordinary. A taste of what's to come...i guess

Shibuya begins with already some neat atmosphere, shot compositions & sound design. Gojo enters the fray and is ready to go all out. The next few eps should be interesting ~~

Muto as the ultimate Mechamaru vs. Mahito in the pursuit of telling Gojo about the Shibuya Incident, this battle is HYPE!

Literally, it's the usual MAPPA fest of animation cooking, though the dimming within the fast action is to be expected which diminishes the enjoyment by a bit. Nonetheless, Muto thinking that he has a chance to win against Mahito, isn't unsound as he's prepared for it. But Mahito's Domain Expansion is still a special-class grade curse above the rest, and once that was established, Muto didn't stand a chance...as if, Muto's Simple Domain is just as effective, if not stronger. Even then, Mahito still trounces by the slightest of edges, and as much as Miwa had promised him, Mechamaru was severely defeated.

As October 31st, 2018, Halloween, slowly inches, Shibuya descends into a veil of a curtain, trapping regular people and using people as fuel for curses. With that, the Tokyo Metropolitan Jujutsu High goes into high gear with all jujutsu sorcerers involved, with Gojo being the main target in question.

With the arrival of Gojo, the long-awaited Shibuya Incident arc marks its start into greatness with madness.

The animation keeps carrying the bare plot and terribly explained powers.

No one expected Mechamaru to come out of this tone alive and his blue haired potential future waifu saying she wanted to get closer to him is just trying to tug at heart strings that no one had for Mechamaru in the first place. Yawn.

I honestly fail to see the hype around it, there are no stakes, there is no buildup, powers are just pulled out of collective asses and the big baddies are just the typical OP shonen antagonists who keep laughing and shrugging off insane amounts of damage.

Yujii is barely in it so far and I honestly had to look up his name because the true MC is Satoru whom everyone sucks off like he's god. That's because he is.

Between this and Chainsaw Man, I have no fucking clue why everyone sings their praises so hard because both series suffer from the same boring, played-out formula that would make fucking DBZ blush with how little everything is explained. How am I supposed to be invested into these characters if I don't know the potential power differences and stakes at play?

tbh i'm biased since i'm not a huge mecha fan, but even reading the manga i thought of it as a bit silly and the animation was a bit messy for my tastes (with the transforming action and all)

hyped for shibuya though

So...lemme get this straight.

They know the special grade curses have inside info on Jujutsu sorcerers and Gojo in particular.
They know the curses are capable of complex traps and plans which have already defeated the jujutsu sorcerers once.
They know that the curses are specifically targeting Gojo.
They know that Gojo is not invincible (he was defeated at least once before by the knife that cancels techniques).
They know the curses are specifically asking for Gojo to show up, and thus very strongly suggests that they at least think that they have a method for defeating Gojo.

So their answer to what is CLEARLY a trap for Gojo is to...send Gojo and no backup?

Are they idiots?

@amf85 corrupt higher up. Someone who hold great influences on Jujutsu high is on the same side with Geto Suguru. It has been forshadowed in eps 6 S2 but hasn't been explained throughtly until in the latter season 2 or early S3.

Just be patience a little bit man, everything gonna be explained as the episode got release.

Mekamaru's battle in the first half was pretty good overall. I feel safe that MAPPA has not yet disappointed my expectations. I was very satisfied with the crazy animations here and there. However, there were some low-quality color battles and low-quality scenes like those in early Black Clover. JJK is not an anime that I watch every week, so I hope that will be improved in the future. That part of the first half was disappointing. The second part was the best. Many of the characters finally appeared, and everything about Shibuya was great, from the atmosphere to the animation to the quietness. I was surprised when Gojo casually appeared at the end, but I didn't really like it. I thought he would make a cool appearance in a crisis scene, like in the first episode of the first season. For some reason, the way he appears seems bland and I don't like it because it seems like the script is trying to make it look cool. Well, overall this is a good episode that I can look forward to next.

Leading up to bigger fights so it's indifferent, I enjoyed the grasshopper fight more in the manga but it makes sense for them to save the budget for those juicy fights. I loved seeing Gojo take off his blindfold easily 10/10 mmmm yeah
