The Opening has a few things that really catch ur eye. The first and most prominent is how bizarre it gets in the second half.
https://youtu.be/lEOrYZhMsvw <-------- link to the opening

The lyrics read and repeat "I want to wake up from recurring dreams" "I want to wake up from recurring dreams" "I want to wake up from recurring dreams" "I want to wake up from recurring dreams" "I want to wake up from recurring dreams" and repeat repeat repeat.

we see a cat

on the cat we see pink and anarchy

its bizarre enough we see real life imagery like this alongside the onslaught of psychotic imagery and with an unsettling message being read out to us.

but its not the only place we see such imagery. The first teaser for this show in specific has a girl sing paraphrasing "Ill love this moment (present) for eternity." As we see a phone in a phone booth hanging as the person holding it has disappeared.

The Logo of the show reveals itself as otaku hero punches the monitor dude. And Otaku hero is seen saving all the magical girls from drowning. but i think its too early to try to understand them.

I have a theory tho.
Anarchy is the main character. We see her get unusually emotional in ep1. It might seem out of place even she starts crying "You are everything i have otaku hero".
We also see in the opening an amalgamation of her with blue and pink and something. all mixed together.

The show lowkey might have a darker something beneath it.
The show might be trying to explore the impacts and mental turmoils of a girl being unable to cope with something she saw herself as but wasn't excepted by the world. It might be a dark take on trying to love yourself. We see something similar happen with otaku hero in ep 1 too. Who knows. Its 3 am rn I'm tired ttyl bye. Thinking about this show doing a "Saikin Kono Sekai wa Watashi dake no Mono ni Narimashita......" gave me chills so many times while writing this

It's so awesome seeing other people look into it as much as I am.  I think we will slowly begin to understand the mind of the author and I am super interested in finding out what we will come next.

god jun is so fucking smart for this

jun is known for his absurd take on magical girls in his clothing (drugs mostly) and how he hates them being so perfect. this is seen here in one of his interviews : "There are quite a few girls in your artwork and collaborations. The magical girls (an anime and manga category of young girls who use magic to overcome conflict) you frequently post on your Instagram represent you well as an artist. Do they have a backstory or background?
JUN: There’s no specific backstory or anything, but you know how most people depict magical girls as these powerful and perfect ideals? I started drawing them because I thought it was better to have magical girls who possess a more human quality and are true to themselves. Before long, these characters were smoking and doing drugs. Whenever I would watch anime featuring magical girls with a strong sense of doing what’s right for others, I would assume weird things about them: “it doesn’t matter if they’re cute because they do bad things in the dark.” So, I decided to draw magical girls with their bad side out in the open. It’s not like I have a message I want to convey through these characters. Nothing deep. I’ve always enjoyed watching anime with girl protagonists and drawing girls, so it’s just an extension of that." in my opinion , this episode completely counteracts what he said in that interview.

i wouldn't be suprised if this was a bait episode due to its colorful nature at times and how fast the pacing was

It was brought to my attention that Kenichi Kutsuna directed the OP. I had not heard the name or the two shows mentioned in the comment they also directed OPs for (Vlad Love and Hikari no Ou). Hikaru no Ou's op was sort of doing it's own thing, but Vlad Loves OP had some interesting similarities or nods to Magical Destoryers. I'm not sure if these are just things that the directed likes to draw or reference bust check it out down below.

Besides the general aesthetic of plants and water, there is a lot of submersion in water.  There is a shot of a fish bowl with a blue betta fish, the same as Otaku Hero puts in his mouth before he starts running. The shots of characters floating underwater, surrounded or wrapped in fabric. We see shots of characters quickly morphing between plants/flowers and the other characters same as Magical Destroyers. And finishing with a shot of someone sitting at a table with flower imaginary.  These are likely stylistic choices on the directors part, but I thought it was interesting.

Concerning Magical Destroyers OP itself, an interesting note is after the logo reveal, Otaku Hero looks up and we are given a shot of Anarchy, Blue and Pink, but excludes the 4th girl shown in the car and being submerged earlier (by the way, who is this girl? I don't see her on the character list for the series). She reappears in the next shots but I was curious about her exclusion. at 1:19 we see a mysterious character having a door closed on them with (possibly their?) giant sunken looking face in the background.

One of my initial thoughts was something akin to Welcome to the NHK. The "I want to wake up from these recurring dreams" might have to do with some sort of "Otaku spell"...at least that's the sort of place the psychedelic imaginary takes me. The line OP quoted of Anarchy saying "You are everything I have Otaku Hero" could have something to do with their existence only being due to the hunger of Otaku and Otaku culture...like it's a sort of paradox of Otaku needing Otaku culture while Otaku Culture given life is nothing without the Otaku. <--- now this is my insane ramblings

As someone who just recently learned about Jun Inagawa through this show, I have been doing some big digging, and I am absolutely falling in love with this dude. It’s awesome to see his vision captured within this show and I cannot wait for more from this series and from Jun himself.

That seems to be Slayer. She appears at the start and end in her established design, and we see her switch to the "new girl" during the first water shot.

What's very interesting about her though is that her second design seems to be a mix or Anarchy and Blue. She shares an eye with each, has hair in Blue's shade but Anarchy's style, and even her outfit combines the outward frills of Anarchy's costume with the cross-like tie Blue has. Even her neck accessory is like Anarchy's choker, yet with a nick in the centre like Blue's collar. I'm not yet sure what this could mean, nor why Pink is seemingly excluded. Or, for that matter, why this design never appeared in any promotional material. It's also interesting that she is the only character with one tear, not two, perhaps representing that whatever is going on with the other girls (this leads in to the idea that this show may be allegorical for a more complex, personal plotline) is at a lesser scope for her.

Thank you for clarifying. I think I figured out it was Slayer after digging a bit deeper and paying closer attention to everything we've been shown so far. It's all very interesting stuff and I'm excited to dissect this series and see where it goes.  Even just after the first episode and that OP, I've been going frame by frame through all of the old PVs and trailers to see what information and clues I can find.
