Creatures with no face and personality are a very repetitive way to keep a plot going. Instead of making them a consequence of Fushi's decisions, they are just his alarm clock to wake up and do something.

Since Fushi became more social aware, this narrative struggles to keep me entertained, we do not have innocent characters like Gugu, Marsh and Fushi himself anymore that were trying to  deal with the injustice of their life, something way more interesting then seeing fushi fight nokkers over and over again, instead we have a super annoying legion of characters that are too loud. Also whats up with that annoying prince sister that sounds and acts like a cat for no reason at all? This girl is so annoying that she probably had less then 5 minutes in the entire show and feels like a day or two.

What do you guys think? What should be the actual fuel of this plot?

I thought manga readers said this season was gonna be "peak". What a waste of time and potential this anime had.

hmmm...
I can see your point, but I personally don't think the shows main focus is the conflict, but the characters Fushi encounters during his life. the nokkers just add agency I think.
So assuming that, It makes sense to have characters that are distinct from another.

agree, the knockers are just flat out boring and turn this into a fighting shonen with stupid power ups. And listening to that girl speak like that gave me a headache 😖

i think this is the reason they're starting to introduce chuch of Bennet, I feel they will play a bigger role as the series goes on. Also prince Bon is a straight up JoJo character and he alone make this the peak

Just because there is action doesn't turn manga into battle manga.

No need to diss the Princessnyan, I liked her. One of the few characters in this season that made me smile.

But yeah, the nokkers were never that good to begin with. A no face villain wears out in one second.

The nockers are a plot device but the real plot is watching human conflict and interpersonal relationships.

Yeah, Nokkers are pretty weak villains but I don't watch this show to see Fushi trying to beat up some random monsters. I watch it for the interpersonal relationships and conflicts between Fushi and the other characters.

I really like this season. It such a breath of fresh air from last season's 'let's meet the next group of people who will soon die and become Fushi's new transformations'.

The second season started with a self-aware response to that vicious cycle of S1, with Fushi's self-isolation to prevent meeting people just to have them die, which ended up being pointless. And Tonari's acknowledgement of this system by literally training her body to be of use to him.
We even have the twist that some of the souls of the people who died are literally still there and aren't really gone, with even a possibility of being resurrected, which is really unorthodox and interesting for this type of show which built up a reputation for milking tears using character deaths. It throws a wrench into that formulaic vicious cycle of S1 and really questions it. About the value of a life, about what the right thing to do is, and about what is the right way to go about things given this knowledge.
Then we have the supporting cast, especially Bon and Kahaku, who both learn a lot about themselves through their interactions with Fushi. The main cast are finding their path and meaning instead of dying when their 3-8 ep arc is over. As of the latest ep, Fushi is still trying to understand why he saves people and why he even exists. And the mystery of the Nokkers' goals are very interesting as well.

For me, this season has been a pleasure to watch and a very solid step up from last season. It's not at all simply about saving the people from the Nokkers, but instead about the exploration of the mysteries of this world and the mechanics of Fushi and the Nokkers, as well as the exploration of some existential questions for the main cast.

I feel this season has really added intrigue with its choices. Bon alone warps the experience of to your eternity so much by being much more intelligent and thoughtful on fushi's life whilst having his own ability that changes how you view the whole world. The interactions of viewpoints of fushi, bon, and kansatsusha add a lot of depth to the experience for me compared to the mostly childish cast we had in s1. I also love hayase's impact on events whilst being long gone. The show is so extremely unorthodox and unique with some of its storytelling and characters I can't help love this season despite imo not being the most beautifully animated or reaching the peak(yet) of gugu's arc. Hope the later half continues and more people enjoy this season cause I really think its special.

Not until you see the 2nd cour. Nokkers will be something interesting again.

The 1st cour was only introducing Bon as one of important characters in this season. Also Kahaku. This arc is longer than other arcs in S1.

This show isn't about the Nokkers primarily, it's about the evolution of Fushi and his growth as a character in emotions and power. The Nokkers are a catalyst for his growth. If you want pure action, this show is not for you. Personally, I prefer following Fushi and the Nokkers aren't that important to me, so it's all up to personal preference. I think this second season is being done exceptionally and it's one of few shows that I get excited to watch :)

Yes, me too, it is a story about FUSHI, not the Nokkers, how he grows and realizes what is important to him and due to that he tried to save all that matters to him. It is HIS STORY.

Absolutely agree with you. Central character is Fushi, not Nokkers, they simply help to reveal Fushi's characters and his moral values in more detail, that is all. Of course it is also important part of the story, but not the primary one.

Nokkers are real big threat. They learn, then become stronger just like Fushi even tho their screentime is far shorter than him. If possible, S3 will give you a great plot twist about them.

Since beginning, S2 started with these long one arc. This season is focusing on worldbuilding, unlike previous one.

To be honest I don't think there is a real issue with the plot of this season, its pretty decent.
The real problem is the pacing, everything happens so fast, transitions between scenes feels disjointed and thus not emotionally stimulating and touching, which were the reasons season 1 was so good.
I would rate it 6 or 6.5 so far while the first season was straight 8.

Some parts were better, but honestly It gets worse with time. I really tried to like this series but I couldnt - such a strong start as well.

If you want immortals and suffering then just try Houseki no Kuni. Many times better in every way

Houseki no Kuni manga was terrible in my opinion. Really wanted to like it too since the anime was great. This season of Fumetsu no Anata e isn't perfect, but it is already much better than anything I read in Houseki no Kuni.
It's probably just a difference in taste, rather than whether either of them are 'crap' or 'many times better in every way'.

I wasn't sure if I should mention it since this is a discussion about Fumetsu but I'll spoiler it. Not sure if it's allowed, if not mods please remove, sorry.
A few side notes: It's been a while so I can't remember many details. I haven't finished the HnK manga, but I'd like to think I've read enough and gave it enough chances to put it down and decide it's just not for me. And this is just going to be some rambling since you wanted to hear why I didn't like Houseki.

I see, I thought the opposite especially with the moon arc onwards. Shinsha part makes sense and im kinda hoping that they come back.
I thought her choices and outcomes made sense especially with the big reveal about enma later on.

Are you well-versed in Buddhism? Because its pretty engrained into the story so a lot of the themes and events may have gone over some readers heads :))

No unfortunately I'm not. Understandable that lots of meaning and themes might've gone over me, but I'm also a proponent that any hidden meaning in a story that isn't directly presented to the viewer should only be a bonus to learn about, and shouldn't be critical to the appreciation of the medium. Regardless, it's more likely that HnK was just unfortunately not a story that connected well with me at all.

Anyway, not going to talk about HnK here anymore since it's out of topic. And also, my memory of the events in HnK are vague now so I can't really put together a very coherent opinion on it anymore anyway.
