So, I was listening to an insert song from A Place Further than the Universe, and I realized that by hearing I was able to recall exactly what a scene it was used in was about and why it was meaningful (Sora Wo Miagete, mountain sunrise scene). Then I remembered a scene from an anime I haven't watched in years. I though about the third season of MHA, and remembered how I thought the song that played when Izuku defeated Muscular sounded completely out of place. Suddenly I'm thinking about how anime I've seen have used insert songs, how well they've used them, and how memorable the actual songs are. So I'm wondering what anime either had insert songs you really liked, or used their insert songs in a way that was impactful or memorable. Just used in the best way to elevate what is happening in the show. Also, would appreciate if you gave examples of which particular tracks you liked, or which scenes you liked the use of music most in.

Would I still remember this scene if it weren't for the song?

Maybe but I doubt it would have the same impact.

In terms of general "how good the music is and how good the anime uses it" there's actually a lot that fit that bill eg Death Note, Gurren Lagann, Kara no Kyoukai, .hack//Sign, Cowboy Bebop etc but the one that i think stand out the most would be OPM s1. It found just the perfect balance between the number of tracks it has per the length of the entire season (meaning how many times it was repeated), the suitability for specific scenes they are used in and how they are edited eg fade in/out.

1) mushishi got the best use of ost i have ever heard . it cathes the atmosphere of the show perfectly
2) aria series use background music very well especially while ending certain episodes
3) sonny boy show does not have ant background music most of the time so whenever it is used it hits really hard
4)cowboy bebop. well everyone already knows
5)houseki no kuni sound design is amazing . it does not have any perticular moment but it is consistent

sad song from yuyu Hakusho
reminds me of Yuusuke getting his ass beaten in the dark tournament arc

requiem of silence from re zero
you cant hear this without getting memories of Subaru carrying rem through the snow

I have absolutely no idea of the context, but that's a really, really nice song. What's the title?

It's called "Moon" from the Turn A Gundam soundtrack

There is also another version called Moon's Cocoon which has Japanese lyrics and serves as the series' second ending theme.

Ahhhh it sounds so mesmerizing! I especially like the English version better, but Moon's Cocoon is just as great. You made someone happy, thank you!

I watched the recap movie recently and it's a travesty that they changed the track on this scene

Yuru Camp△ use background soundtrack in the best way unimaginable and I doubt anything can top that. Other contenders that I can think of are K-On!, Clannad, Non Non Biyori, Death Note, Perfect Blue, Monster, Kaiji, Akagi, One Outs and Dragon Maid

Bleach is one of the few anime whose background music are all or mostly good to hear, making any scenes better :)

No, it is favorite insert song topic. Here is best OST.

For me it is Candy Candy OST. Every composition fits perfect for each theme!

The first thing comes to my mind is Death Note. The bgm is one of the reasons why I like Death Note.

Attack on Titan, Death Note, Your lie in April, Code Geass, Kaiji White album 2.

for recent show i think Yuusha Yamemasu, shiguang dailiren(link click) is the best.

this is basically anime that i rated 9-10, i think has the best of using background music

Music can really elevate a section, but one of the most powerful uses of background was the *lack* of music where the ED music would normally be playing.
In Zhen Hun Jie, season 2, can't remember if it was episode 2 or 3, they replaced the ED music with just the sound of flickering flames, and damn it was effective.
