What happened to Eren's key?

In season 4, I noticed Eren wasn't wearing the basement key around his neck. Did Eren leave the key in the basement?
The basement key had been relevant since season 1 and carried a lot of meaning with it. It created one of Erwin's main goals, finding the basement, and was an important factor in Grisha and Eren's relationship.
After discovering the secrets within the basement, the key isn't a necessity anymore. However, since the basement scene was so significant, I feel like totally discarding the key right after is just another way of saying, "Alright, that plot point is over! Next!"

That plot point is over, the entire point of the basement was to unlock the secrets that resides inside it, and the scouts accomplished that goal. The plot point, just like all others in Attack on Titan, served it’s purpose for the goal of assisting in creating an ending that readers/viewers can be happy with. On top of that, Attack on Titan is an anime that feeds off of foreshadowing, tells the future by using the past to an extremely effective degree and vice versa. You don’t recognize it until you rewatch it or unless your memory is perfect, but it had been going in the direction that it ended in since episode one and even before that.

the plot around the key finished in the 3rd season so there was no need for eren to wear it around his chest

The key was relevant when you didn't know what it unlocked.

Now that we know it unlocked Grisha's desk-drawer and we've uncovered the secrets of the world, it's no longer necessary.
