Well, it's more than good that you don't know about it cause seeing something so wholesome butchered by some freaks is never been a good thing to watch.

They weren't being racist, they were pointing out the hypocrisy

The same people who are fine with black edits are the same people who lose thier shit over Marin getting a tan or when a poc Character is drawn with slightly lighter tone

Nevermind the fact that eace swapping OF ANY KIND is racist and dumb

I think the issue with fanarts only happen when someone says "ey look i fixed it." by either completely changing the race of a character or by shaming races in the process.Or just messing up someone's art through harassment.
This fanart right above is extremely cute and innocent. Its coloured really nicely as well!

It absolutely was nOT small, and there is no hypocrisy because it’s dark skin characters that have the least amount of representation and then someone whitewashes it and blatantly does it to encode a reaction. Do you think that’s fair?

"ey look i fixed it." well I don't think there shouldn't be any issue with that as well, I guess you know there are even fanarts which are just inappropriate for many people perspective, like you'll see a certain character getting bang (I don't want to go much deeper into it, so I hope you understood.) by an another character just for being close to him even though there is no romantic or sexual interest by any side but that exists without any controversy, for an anime with childcare theme and a wholesome vibe around it, I found this incident very sad that how something that just another wholesome thing (the Anya fan art with Dark Skin Tone) associated with something that has nothing to do with it (Racism), that's how I feel but that's not necessary for everyone. Even if the person wants to portray something that's not at all relevant sometimes even inappropriate the thing that even I didn't feel triggered or despise because artistic freedom isn't bound to just certain types of arts so, if even something that I found inappropriate it's better I just ignore it. I'm muslim to and loves to see something like this. (Halal Forger Family Fanart lol)

The small thing i meant was the people who were saying actual racist things like a joke, not the other 99% who were talking about race swapping

Dude, Japan has like barely black people, why do you demand them to give you representation ? What does it even matter ?

While i DO AGREE that white washing is racist, there's still 1) race swapping as a whole is racist 2) people still get offended by the slight race change like with marin Kitigawa drama and Kaeya from genshin impact because apparently getting tanned or having more lighting over your skin is racist 3) anime Characters aren't white, they're asian ( and yes they don't look asian, they're still not white )

I recently came across the "racism" controversy and thank god I was too late to know about it, but that also makes me question can't we have nice things? Well, everyone is not supposed to enjoy every genre and demographic and that's totally fine but seriously it looks like people have forgot what fanart is, and they are actually forcing them to be limited when creative freedom is always an option for them and my god the art was cute and I just come across an fanart which I found adorable have a look https://www.instagram.com/p/CcxsXbcMmZk/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=

Aww that’s so cute

No one demanded any black representation from anime, and that’s fine no one really complains about that. It’s the fact that the little white kids on Twitter get mad when people use their creativity to have their own representation, but we’re in the wrong for minding our business.

Although I didn't saw anybody demanding or saying anything about black representation in anime but it'll be not fair to say that there isn't any representation at all, but that was mostly back in the day, Marik Ishtar from Yu-Gi-Oh!, Claudia Grant from Macross, Michiko Malandro from Michiko & Hatchin, Afro from Afro Samurai the characters mentioned are Black or have dark skin tone, there are more to be mentioned but in the recent time the representation have become a rare sight, and when it does it sparks controversy like Don't Toy with Me Miss Nagatoro, the reason why I'm telling you all this because anime is diverse but lately diversity is limited by some freaks who gets offended over a characters skin color and I found this mindset very problematic that "no one wanted" cause it limits the creative boundaries for representation.

Of course, I definitely see the representation, and even though it’s not always the best it’s still there. My issue is with the people that never think outside of their own perspective or you know just straight racists. The quote retweets of that Anya post were insane and disgusting calling her a slave, saying a bunch of stereotypes, and calling her and the creator the hard r. That’s terrible but people still ignore it because they aren’t affected at all, or add to the problem by saying “oh but if they drew a black character as white people would be mad.”

Do you....do you watch modern anime ? DO YOU ?

There's a lot of black Characters now lol, the recent examples are the girl from summertime render, also no, the amount of representation back then isn't significantly different from now

The only reason why nagatoro had drama is because some idiots complained on Twitter that she got " whitewashed " because of a fan art someone drew of her being white EVEN THO SHE'S NOT BLACK and is " white " and she's just tanned as observed by the beach episode, which ofc they didn't watch it

The other drama is like 3 or so people were racist over Nagatoro's Eng VA but again, 3 or so people not the whole anime community, actually it died quickly because it's an actual racism rather than " muh black anime Character has lighter skin than before reeeeee " drama people get hanged over every 5 seconds

I think there is a misinterpretation here or maybe I should have wrote it better but from "Black Representation" I actually meant "proper representation" if you have watched any of those anime I've mentioned the representation shows the diversity rather than making a drastic choice. If you have watched Cowboy Bebop the overall representation of people not just characters alone is diverse almost like a better world structured from the world we live in. In modern day anime culture seems to be mostly around watching every hyped anime, memes, fanservice and lolicons that makes me think that the time when anime wasn't as popular as today there was so much space for creative freedom which bringed a lot of good and memorable representation of Black characters if you're telling me to count characters with dark skin tone from harem and echhi anime series nowadays then you're right there is a lot of representation but I was discussing this on a more mature and serious scale so the only representation I can think of from the modern day anime is Carole Stanley from Carole and Tuesday.

I’m always down for more race representation. If they can have increased representation for LGBTQ+ with yuri and BL, I don’t see why they don’t try to have more representation for different races as main characters in anime/manga.

I think LGBTQ+ has been getting quite a representation these days, if you're asking for manga then most titles I've came across you can call them "Fetish" manga or if even they are not Fetish they lack emotions and story well, some of the worst manga I've read are manga centred around LGBTQ+, but you'll also get some good titles as well in both the anime and manga although it's not that many out there, some that I'll suggest you to watch or read is Sasaki to Miyano a Boys Love manga which even got a anime adaptation last Winter, "Given" an another Boys Love manga which also got an anime adaptation as well, for Girls Love although I don't like them much but you can try them for yourself, Bloom into You has both Manga and Anime, YuruYuri I think the title would be enough. Sadly anime/manga doesn't represent LGBTQ+ community on a good and notable scale and mostly what we have are Fetish Manga, Hentai or if a story doesn't falls in these 2 categories then it's most likely to have mediocre storyline.

What I mean to say is since there is more representation for diversity via LGBTQ, they should do so through race as well. I have no interest in stuff like yuri, though I’d love a series with like a South Asian protagonist or something

I've already mentioned the situation of LGBTQ+ in the current market and for diversity I didn't mentioned anything about it my last reply so, well, diversity in anime is long gone, pretty much memes represent the culture, an anime like Cowboy Bebop or The Heroic Legends of Arslan is a rare case now, people easily gets bored by historical anime so, you can assume the situation by that alone.

honestly im so happy i never touched twitter, tiktok, other shit social media. their community are so toxic as fuck. (excluding mal, i know this community is also toxic lol)

I think it pretty much depends upon your usage of them, if you don't look for them they won't come to you, if they still come to you then you can ignore them.

I guess, maybe yeah. From what I know the most toxic community goes to anime stuff, which is the content I will be looking into. To be honest I'm all good by using reddit instead of the others.

Toxicity even lies around the topics which has nothing to do with anime but right now it's anime here, almost every platform which gives you the option to share your thoughts on it, you're most likely to see toxic people there, now matter how big a community is in today's day and age it can't avoid toxicity given everybody seeks drama whether they admit it or not. I found reddit no exception in this regard, but if you're having a good time there then you might be one of those rare ones who avoid drama or your just lucky until you got surrounded by toxicity or maybe your just one of those toxic people. (I hope you're not.)
