Physical DVD/Blu-ray don't own anything older in the VHS or LaserDisc realm of formats.

Only pick up those that I really care about. Only got a handful of 2000s/2010s anime.

Been collecting over 30 years, a lot of stuff went bye bye only to be re purchased, then went bye bye again. Some stuff I held onto and never let go, and then built back onto what I never got rid of. As of late I have downsized quite a bit. Up until 2019 I had 1,450 VHS tapes floor to ceiling... I went back to DVDs and I still had quite a bit and am just now rebuying DVDs (I only buy Bluray when I have to, I like DVDs still and still utilize a number of CRT TVs but mostly watch on a TCL ROKU TV)

My Current Anime Collection and growing (as of this post Akudama Drive, Konosuba and Kantai Collection is inbound so not photoed)

My Gaming Collection of my all time fave system that is the SEGA MEGA DRIVE

and my ATARI 2600 VCS Collection still growing as new games are coming out all the time for both Mega Drive and Atari.

BTW while your topic is interesting, unfortunately not alot of people here care about physical media and if anything you're going to be harassed for liking physical media and not spending it on the cancer trash shit known as genshit or any other fucking gacha games or having a steam account either its a harsh reality of life here sadly. So best report any idiot who tries to cross your way.

And your collection of anime is pretty interesting i must say and again nice topic to talk about.

Used to be much bigger. Back when I was married and owned a 1900 square foot condo I had my own in house video game arcade too. A lot of stuff went bye bye after the divorce. Then I got into a long term relationship that ended in Sept 2021 after 9 years and went from a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment with my (now) ex GF, where I had even less space. Now I'm in a Efficiency sized place and even more strapped for space [Thanks a whole lot Covid Variable Era! ---Shakes Fist]

But I intend to have a 10 upright Arcade + 2 pinball machine and a Air Hockey Table Arcade in the new future and an indoor gun range custom built on the property. EVENTUALLY. But this is stuff collected over time. I didn't get this stuff in a week or a year. So it's more bad ass looking than it is.

Well I had that mini arcade in my house before, so I want to get back to that in the future. Just don't have the space at the moment. ---You gotta' remember, my first game system is the ATARI 2600 which came out in 1977, I was born in 1978. So between that as a home console and living through the 1980s Arcade Scene and then it's resurgence in the 1990s starting in 1991 when Street Fighter 2 dropped... when owning a NEO:GEO MVS or AES home system was all the rage, well naturally I'm going to be the guy who has a private video game arcade. Hell I MISS that scene and what it was. No everything is online stuff only, and what remains for video game arcades are museums, barcades and stuff like that. The best arcades are in people's private collections.

I'm getting back on the horse so to speak after Covid Variable Era uprooted my life. I figure 3 to 4 years and I'll be back where I was before. Be about that time I'll prolly start the dating thing again too, so when I'm 47 or 48. ---This mofo still throws down like a 20something though on all fronts. Right now is just the rebuilding era for me.

Pro-tip arguging with lifeless zeptograms is also going to increase your chances into getting thrown in the banner and the key to survivng an arguement here is to be cryptic with your insults as you possible can be. Chances are they get thrown into the banner instead of you since mods wouldn't have the braincells to process it.

So my best advice to you as well is to just stay outta the drama and toxicity at all times imo hence why i'm only really here on seldom boredom these days only to interact with friends or update lists.

Yes REALLY, and i seriously don't know why, it's beyond idiotic, and i'll tell you why i've sworn by never buying something that i can't physically hold in my own hands ever again:

Picture me as a snotty kid with her first iphone (uncle's handmedown) whining like there's no tomorrow "uncleeee, buy me Angry Birds! Buy Monkey Ball! I want Monkey ball!! i want (insert whatever game was a fad in early 2010s)"... none of those games run anymore! Yeah Angry Birds still exist, but it's been updated so many times you don't even have to buy the full version anymore, there's just a shittone of in-app purcheses, which are also a ripoff

The biggest pain has been trying to list everything I've watched in 30 years on MAL. I think I got most of it, but every now and then something pops up back in my mind. ---Yeah, I started on the DVD thing and then somehow jumped onto VHS again from 2010 to 2019 when I decided to sell off all buy 30 tapes I couldn't live without (mostly stuff never on DVD). Then I got back into DVD full swing. Since I still watch stuff on CRT TVs as well as on a lower end HDMI Flatscreen set, I'm not worried about super duper fidelity and all that and prefer DVDs over Blurays. Sadly, the industry (especially in anime) has just about phased out DVDs in favor of Bluray, so a good chunk of my stuff will be Malay DVDs since they still put out Anime on the format and I'm not being forced to buy Bluray. I of course try to still support the mains in R1 as much as possible. But I come from the era where one had to daisy chain VHS Decks with others to a Central VHS player and get anime that was fan subbed in 2nd and 3rd (and sometimes 4th) generation copies, before the advent of companies like Animeigo, US Manga Corps, US Renditions, Manga Ent. and more.

I have yet to see Akudama Drive but everything from the character designs to a snippet I saw just jumped out at me. A good portion of what's in the photo from my collection I still have yet to watch (stuff like Akagame Kill! Dimension W, Kill la Kill, season 2 of Kakegurui, etc.) that is more modern... but I'm watching Akudama as soon as it comes in. ---Starting DECA-DENCE tonight.

Good to see another URUSEI YATSURA and City Hunter fan too. Can't go wrong with either in my book.

Wow! 30 years of collecting anime, that's dedication!
I hope my collection will be as nice in 30 years time :D
I also still like and have a CRT TV, also have my mom and dad's old Sega MegaDrive along with other videogame handmedowns from my uncle and some new stuff
And hope you enjoy Akudama Drive, i watched it recently and it's one heck of a ride :)

Thanks :3
Ah don't worry, bring on the idiots, i like a good brawl 😁 (long as the thread doesn't get locked)
Which anime in my collection interest you?

Pro-tip arguging with lifeless zeptograms is also going to increase your chances into getting thrown in the banner and the key to survivng an arguement here is to be cryptic with your insults as you possible can be. Chances are they get thrown into the banner instead of you since mods wouldn't have the braincells to process it.

So my best advice to you as well is to just stay outta the drama and toxicity at all times imo hence why i'm only really here on seldom boredom these days only to interact with friends or update lists.

spirited away and godlen boy are what intersts me the most

🀣🀣 Yeah i'm quite good with criptic insults, i remember literally the day i joined MAL getting into an argument with a "lifeless zeptogram" as you put it, it was a thread about "how much of your room is decorated with anime merch" and this zeptogram came after me and a few others, i didn't need to hurl one insult, i just played overlly sweet and innocent and i got him to spew out the worst of the worst, then when i got sick of fighting i just ended it with probably the worst insult ever incripted in a joke :D I wonder if this dude's still on MAL?

Oh, and since then my wall of anime, superhero, and Star Wars posters has grown expedentially, and i'm very proud of it πŸ˜†

I don't think the mods are that dumb though, at least not the ones i've interacted with, i don't know everyone

Spirited Away was my first anime DVD, my uncle got it for me when i was 6, i've watched that DVD over 20 times :3

Golden Boy i've been wanting to watch it for a while, it's a 2 DVD set and i found part 2 for 1 buck at one of my local comic shops so couldn't not get it, then i found part 1 online for 5 bucks

LOL, dude must've prolly got perma'd by now as i may probably not have seen him since your first day but then again i only got active like farily not too long ago.

Maybe i should use the cutesy uwu larp to get people to bring out their darkest shit out to the light i mean i did cryptic insulting to someone during my time when i used to be on f.g a while back and it led to him getting a visit in purgatory instead of me. XD Maybe it must have been someone i reported a while back as well too. I mean i reported alot of people here and thankfully the mods always responded to my reports.

But yeah just absoultetly and completely stay out of drama and toxicity at any and all times online and offline like me and you'll be totally fine.

Got spirited away from my parents as a kid and i saw it alot as well too and golden boy i'd love to find at value village one day.

Malay DVDs are a good (and cheaper) alternative for eng sub anime, not 100% sure but i think they do the subs themselves and not just rip it from official merch, it's basically fansub DVD, which considering the state of companies like Funimation now a days i trust more than the official subs
Hopefully when all this covid crap is over, i can go to south east asia and visit aunts, uncles, and cousins, and eat lots of good food 🀀🍜πŸ₯˜πŸ§ and stock up on any anime that didn't get a dub in my home country

The character designs are whar got me curious about Akudama Drive too, also there was a cat in the trailer 😸 Got Akame ga Kill on PTW list too

BTW, what don't you like about BluRays? Saw you have a PS3 wich plays both DVD and BluRay

I don't have any reason to collect anime blu-rays. I do have a couple, but I find it more fun to collect manga. I don't have any way of watching anime in a physical medium so collecting them doesn't seem very valuable to me. Manga I can at least read and it's a slightly different experience to reading it online.

Yes REALLY, and i seriously don't know why, it's beyound idiotic, and i'll tell you why i've sworn by never buying something that i can't physically hold in my own hands ever again:

Picture me as a snotty kid with her first iphone (uncle's handmedown) whining like there's no tomorrow "uncleeee, buy me Angry Birds! Buy Monkey Ball! I want Monkey ball!! i want (insert whatever game was a fad in early 2010s)"... none of those games run anymore! Yeah Angry Birds still exist, but it's been updated so many times you don't even have to buy the full version anymore, there's just a shittone of in-app purcheses, which are also a ripoff

LOL, i never once had any interest in any fucking smart phones since i'm super anti social af or any mobile game at all and even i did had a phone i wouldn't have had a sperg out like that snotty tik-tok tard type kid you mentioned.

I can't stand smatphones either, for me back then it was just the coolest new videogame console with an incorporated ipod, and that's it! They work shit-all as actual phones, the few times i've actually needed a cellphone for work the smartdumbphone malfunctioned and i couldn't receive important calls, on top of that, i kid you not, every smartphone has a one year lifespan, when that year is up, the battery that used to last you almost a week now last under 12 hours, and the storage space, you'll get a messege "storage 99% full" and no matter how much shit you delete it's still 99% full!?!?!?! Switched to a flipphone when i got my first paycheck
Now i only use smartphone to videochat with my sister

And the snotty kid, now a slightly less sotty grown-up can't stant tiktok either

I've only ever reported a couple guys and mods dealt with the situations very well, first one didn't get banned but he got a warning which was enough to make him stop
Second one got reported, banned, kept making new accounts multiple times, by multiple people i assume, considering he was spamming fg with porn and poop gifs
Now i mostly report porn-bots :D

BTW, what don't you like about BluRays? Saw you have a PS3 wich plays both DVD and BluRay

I don't hate the format that is Bluray, I just never saw the need to go beyond DVD. If I were a Cinema Connoisseur who owned a $3,000 90inch flat screen TV mounted on a wall with another $2 to $3,000 invested in a sound system spectacular that yeet me to Mars... I could see Bluray or 4K.

But I watch stuff on a RCL ROKU TV, like standard level HD Flatscreen and CRT still. Also I prefer the slightly larger DVD keep boxes to the Bluray ones, so even when I do buy Bluray (I have about 15 or 20), the Bluray insert goes into a DVD box ontop of a DVD sacrifice insert reversed and the Bluray insert is centered. That copy of STEINS;GATE in the photo for Season 1 is DVDs that came un the Bluray set that also had DVDs... but the box is DVD too. My STEINS;GATE ZERO (Season 2) was an Malay Import.

I'm just weird/eccentric that way is all. It all needs to be UNIFORM. I have O.C.D. so that's part of it. ---and for the PS3, I bought it 3 months before PS4 dropped because this chick I knew never used it for anything but Netflix and was getting a PS4 and only wanted a hundred bucks for it. So it's how I play my Blurays when I have to have Bluray, but it's actually using the PS2 Composite A.V. cables to the Composite input on that ROKU TV anyhow, so it's not even using HDMI.

The only difference i've really noticed between DVD and BluRay is BluRay has more space (data), a DVD typically holds 4-6 episodes, a BluRay will hold double
Never really cared for HD 4k ecc
Yeah i can understand what you mean from an aestetic point of view

Right now i'm still at a point of i'll get whatever i can find for the chapest price, who knows maybe in the future i'll be more selective

That's just kind of how things work in that universe? Like FMA has the equivalent exchange thing or One Piece has devil fruits or HxH has Nen. It was established that that's how things work, does there need to be a detailed scientific explanation? There's no reason the law of equivalent exchange exists except that it was established that this is how things work in the FMA-verse, and the same goes for Darker Than Black and how its abilities work.
Lots of things in anime are just established as part of the setting and how the universe works without having detailed scientific explanations provided or needed. So I don't really understand what kind of explanation you're expecting or hoping for tbh.
I probably regret this post by now.

No need for an explanation, was just curious and wondering if i missed something while watching the anime
You mentioned FMA, i'm not sure equivalet exchange really needs an explanation as it's something that's pretty much rooted in reality (minus all the alchemy stuff of course), the law of equivalent exchange literally means that nothing can be created out of thin air, in real world terms for example: paper comes from wood, trees, so if you want a certain amount of paper you're gonna have to cut down an equivalent amount of trees, you can't have both

The answer is simple, instead of treating patients, they use it to make a bunch of really odd videos like your job is treat patients not be a dancer.

And nope, i couldn't tell it was a joke oof lol. And i still stand by what i said that i just stay away from trends at all times since it really isn't of any interest to me.

Aww, I have an anime collection, but it's all split up right now so I can't take a picture. Some are at my house while some are here at my parents' house. And then the ones that are here are a bit all over the place. If I could gather all the anime that's here at least then I'd try to take a picture. I'll see if I can if I have time. Most of what I have are DVDs. I only have a few VHS tapes and BluRays. I guess I have a decent amount of manga too, but we're talking about anime.

As for good deals, I've come across many! I wanna say a lot of my collection came from when Hastings-- especially when they were closing all of their stores. They had everything for like 50% then later 70% off whether pre-owned or new so I hit up multiple Hastings and loaded up. I do sometimes buy a bit when Rightstuf has big sales or certain things on clearance though. Also, the 99 cents store used to have certain anime for sale so I'd sometimes get those too (like Brigadoon, Inuyasha, Trouble Chocolate, Rave Master, and such). I never see them sell anime anymore though. :C

Hastings was the best! Still kinda miss that store. A lot of my collection came from Hastings especially in the days before I could buy online and I spent far more than I probably should have when they went out of business. Half price books had some decent prices sometimes as well. And a long time ago I could usually find some harder to find stuff at a place called suncoast but they were pricey

Even though I've got access to various streaming services, I am a sucker for physical media. Off the top of my head, my anime DVDs and Blu-rays include...
- The R.O.D OVA and TV series
- Free! season 1-3
- Various Pokémon episodes and most of the movies
- Most of TransFormers Generation 1, sans a few episodes from season 2
- School-Live!
- JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 1-5
- Laputa: Castle in the Sky
- Princess Mononoke
- The Grave of the Fireflies
- Summer Wars

My manga collection is significantly smaller, but I'm hoping to expand it. Right now it includes...
- JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Phantom Blood
- Forbidden Scrollery
- R.O.D: Read Or Die
- R.O.D: Read Or Dream

I know these aren't exactly the biggest collections, but it's a start. :3

Being that we are roommates, that is, perhaps unsurprisingly, my collection too

You didn't mention the live-action JoJo movie, though. ...And the surplus of figurines. Lol

Hastings really was great and it's hard not to miss it! No worries, I also probably bought more than I should have. Each trip during their closing days was like $250 to $300 with a full cart or two of stuff. Still, I think you and I probably ended up saving in the end so you probably made a good decision! We'll say so at least! Glad to see others who love a good deal!

( I meant to say that for Digicat too! What good deals! )
