I know there's a lot of people who don't drop anything, and I'm curious of what anime was a good surprise for you. Which anime got better? Which anime are great but have a rocky start?
I'm curious on what you found.

It would be Steins gate, I watched it because I was curious to know why it is popular and I didn't know anything more than just a mad scientist doing experiment in his room, I don't read synopsis or reviews before watching a anime that's why I had no idea not even a clue that it will get better after first half, so it was big surprise for me.

I'm guilty of dropping a lot. I'm quite picky and usually don't like wasting my time if I get bored unless it's English dubbed and I can play a video game at the same time then I'll probably give it more of a chance.

But One Piece I did drop once upon a time over 10 years ago then decided to pick it up 5 or 7 years later. I gave it until episode 30 and once I got there I was hooked and binged the entire thing and One Piece ended up becoming my favourite anime of all time.

I wasn't one of those who ever dropped Steins; Gate though. I actually liked it from the start.

I tend to give almost any anime a try. There is always some titles that I start watching then kind of put off to the side after just a few episodes, but I have rarely ever actually dropped any series completely.

I will list a few titles that I was pleasantly surprised by in no real particular order:

Gamers! - Originally when I 1st picked up this title I had no idea what to expect. As I continued to keep watching episode after episode I found myself drawn into the fictitious tension of petty teenage love drama surrounded by the misunderstanding of situations and how they perceived their own social standings in what one could call a pretty typical modern Japanese high school life. This was actually one of the best anime Romcoms I have ever watched.

Hinamatsuri - I didn't know what to expect from this title when I originally discovered it, so I had no expectations as I kept watching episode after episode. I was completely enveloped in the story watching the lives of each and other characters in this series and was pleasantly surprised by the depth and every detail that went into everyone's development. This was one of the few titles that I have watched that I actually felt is a complete master piece.

I could go on and on about many others titles that I have watched but then I would just be spending my entire night writing an essay.

To quickly conclude, here is a list of other titles I have watched that turned out to be pleasant surprises for me in no particular order or genre:

-The Devil is a Part-Timer!
-Ascendance of a Bookworm
-Isekai Shokudou
-BOFURI: I Don't Want to Get Hurt, so I'll Max Out My Defense.
-Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear
-Magical Girl Spec-Ops Asuka
-Ore Monogatari!!
-Didn't I Say to Make My Abilities Average in the Next Life?!

Masamune kun no revenge. I tried to watch it, then I dropped it. Again convinced myself to give it another try, again I dropped it. For one last time, I tried to watch it. But it was fated to be in my drop list.
That's an utter trash. I have few animes in my dropped list, but among them 'Masamune kun no revenge' tops in below trash category.

probably Durarara and Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, I contemplated dropping both of these early on but I decided not to and I’m glad I didn’t

Good surprise: Bloom into You (not a fan of romances in general)
Got better: Parasyte
Rocky start, but turned out great: Shiki

The first (and only time) show I "unofficially" dropped but then decided to watch it back up again was Baccano. It did get better in the second half.

no one, all animes that i judge as trash in the first episodes ended up being trash in the latest. i would say that some are worth it by its high moments like JJK or SNK, but the average of the anime is still the same

For this season, "Super Cub" was a pleasant surprise. I almost dropped it in episode 1, but the inclusion of "Clair de Lune" is the only thing that pushed me to watch further.
Also B: the beginning and Sirius are pretty solid action anime with really good action animation.

Oremonogatari, Baccano and Mushishi come to mind.

I kind of forced myself to watch the first half of Oremonogatari, wasn't really into it because nothing happened, I even put it on hold but then I ended up watching and enjoying it.

Baccano was also a really difficult one for me to watch because the timeline is such a mess but after the last episodes I felt that (almost) everything got clear.

Mushishi was actually something I dropped before I became a completionist. I watched the first episode and really didn't even understand what was going on, but then years later I tried again and got obsessed.

Baccano
I didn't understand it at the start due to its complex and confusing plot but I'm glad I didn't drop that.

Parasyte and Madoka Magica, I knew both were good as I heard good things 'bout them but man they were so amazing that I was surprised.

You're going to be all right. You just stumbled over a stone in the road.
It means nothing. Your goal lies far beyond this. Doesn't it?
I'm sure you'll overcome this.
You'll walk again... soon.
