Who’s the better protagonist? Choose who and explain why with valid subjective reasons. (Manga and anime both count in coming up with your argument) (Also make sure to make fair judgements of each character, a little bias is fine but try to be fair and equal to both protagonists)

What you mean no bias? It's literally a character poll, how are you not supposed to pick the character you prefer😂 If I prefer one then that means I like them more as a protagonist

Ngl this is tuff tanjiro's good because he's nice but at the same time doesn't act all dumb and naive, and with yuji he's more realistic its interesting to see how he develops throughout the story both are good characters

I think Yuji is a better protagonist because his personality is more interesting and diverse than that of Tanjiro who is just kind to everyone even if he remains very appreciable because of that. This is also one of the things I blame KNY for, the fact that nothing is known about Nezuko other than that she is Tanjiro's sister and that she was very nice too. The Tanjiro / Nezuko relationship is admittedly cute but not particularly moving (from my point of view) as they have a very underdeveloped sibling relationship (unlike Mob Psycho 100 or No Game No Life for example).

Honestly, Itadori is too overrated for me to pick him. A couple months ago when JJK ended I probably would’ve said him, but Jujutsu Kaisen is too everywhere now. Demon Slayer blew up like twice and has quieted down since then. But in terms of sheer protagonists, I would pick Tanjiro any day, mostly because he’s consistently growing while Itadori is OP, and that’s basically it.

| I feel like the character development of tanjiro made him a more complete mc, we kinda see him grow as a person, we feel like we know him, we can relate easily because of the emphasis on him in the whole demon slayer show. We don’t really get a yuji based story in jjk we know a little about everyone and I feel like it’s harder to say that yuji is a more complete mf since we don’t really know about him yet. Tanjiro almost has no depth to him and it just seems like he’s just unnaturally nice and empathetic and there are a lot of MCs who are just like that (not specifically with the amount of empathy he has) but he just seems like a slightly more sensitive shonen mc and that’s it, which isn’t very relatable to me 2.Dudes personality is basically Jesus-kun, also tanjiro almost has no type of change or challenge to strengthen or deconstruct his character to make him more diverse and intriguing character, the only thing I attracted me to his character was his empathy for others but that’s the only special thing about him. 3. Also nezuko also has no depth or character like at all, she’s just all moe also tanjiro literally has no notable flaws about him, whatsoever. Why I think Itadori is better: 1:Yuji is a slightly different shonen protagonist, he’s surely has some of the tropes of a shonen MC, but he also seems a bit divergent from those tropes and his goal is actually very different from a typical shonen MC plus most of his decisions is based off of a way to avoid guilt. 2.Yuji actually gets his morals and resolve tested again and again in order to better his character because he has some very notable flaws, for example his idealistic vision of the future and trying to save everyone or not harming humans and his extreme naïvety but once shibuya arc starts to realize that cursed spirits and humans aren’t all that different and that he is no different from a cursed spirit killing humans cuz he kills cursed spirits too, making him just as guilty, basically breaking down his character, goals, morals and resolve etc 3.I personally just like him way more than tanjiro and he seems cool and isn’t as generic, and doesn’t seems like just the typical shonen MC to me. | Both are generic Shounen MC, but I'mma go with Tanjiro on this one. Both are good MC but I'm not a fan of the Overpowered trope that Yuuji has. Overpowered trope has the tendency to be very cool at first but Gets boring very quickly(And it applies in JJK). |

I can understand itadori because his emotions work like a humans but even though tanjiro's family was slaughtered he never harbors any hate for the demons he kills and tries to understand them.(which is by no means bad) I just don't think a real person's emotions work that way. That's my thinking ig.

3. Also nezuko also has no depth or character like at all, she’s just all moe Why I think Itadori is better: 1:Yuji is a slightly different shonen protagonist, he’s surely has some of the tropes of a shonen MC, but he also seems a bit divergent from those tropes and his goal is actually very different from a typical shonen MC plus most of his decisions is based off of a way to avoid guilt. 2.Yuji actually gets his morals and resolve tested again and again in order to better his character because he has some very notable flaws, for example his idealistic vision of the future and trying to save everyone or not harming humans until once shibuya arc starts to realize that cursed spirits and humans aren’t all that different and that he is no different from a cursed spirit killing humans cuz he kills cursed spirits too, making him just as guilty, basically breaking down his character, goals, morals and resolve etc 3.I personally just like him way more than tanjiro and he seems cool and isn’t as generic, and doesn’t seems like just the typical shonen MC to me. Goddamn I was not tryna write a essay. Damn! did you just wasted and essay because you didn't read the manga Damn!!! Well im going to be honest i haven't read the manga and i apologize But here is my opinion Itadori yuuji, is just a lot like another ichigo trapped a monster inside him saw a relative die in front of him, just want's to be strong so he can save his friend's, it's almost like naruto as well but I don't think he's boring though i like him, but i like tanjiro better Because i was already intrested what's going to happen next when his family died, personality changed a little, we clearly know his motive that he wants to kill Micheal Jackson, his fight's actually shows how his training went well, experiencing more hardships (r.i.p rengoku😔 and to rui as well) he was ready to get slashed in the face so he can save his sister that's a development and there's more And here's what i think of yuuji, his goal was actually not that intresting a lot of shonen mc doesn't want to be alone or see their friend die and by the looks of it he already made friends, and he experienced hardships in the manga (yes i know and I don't know how i know cause i haven't read the manga, but i know), his training I actually don't know what it achieved he was able to control cursed energy but then what did it achieved, he wasn't able to beat an enemy by himself and his fighting style still looks the same when he helped fushigoro and his personality nothing hasn't changed his still nice 🙂 Mod edit: spoiler tags |

Itadori, cuz' he's got personality, is funny and has got this badass king of the curses in him. On the other hand tanjiro is that very typical god boy, u know what i mean, like Deku and stuff. <3

Tanjiro has far better qualities then yuji tbh maybe that will change for yuji as the manga goes on but he feels very underwhelming Rembe said: if you think he’s nice just to be nice you probably didn’t watch the anime or read the manga not only is character critiqued and explored in the red light district arc and in th SSV arc but also during the rui’s arc and the hashira meeting yuji was only was explored in shibuyagasman66 said: I mean tbh itadori is a way more in depth protagonist while Tanjiro is just overly nice which is sweet definitely but the series never goes really in his character like it does with yuji in JJK making him much more diverse, the entire shibuya arc deconstructed itadori character and showed how naive and idealistic his “try to save everyone” complex is and how he can’t save everyone, I much rather prefer that than a protagonist who is just nice to be nice but this is just my perspective.Honestly, Itadori is too overrated for me to pick him. Mod edit: merged double post
