Okay now....this show has been a total jaw dropper for me
Not only the shamisen playing but the story too is captivating
It's an easy 8/10 even if u aren't into music anime then why the hell I it's rating as low as 7.80
I mean 7.8 isn't that low but ig I'm too much obsessed with this anime .....just that good
Also the op and ed are the best out of this season

i mean it's good but not really stands out if you've seen other musical anime besides 7.80 is by no means a "low rating"

It's not really, but I feel it's a bit unfair too. I understand the backgroud story is nothing new or innovative. It's by no means a masterpiece. But, since its main theme is music, they have absolutely nailed it. I'm totally captivated by the Shamisen. The performances were superb, and both OP and ED are bangers.

This anime deserves to be at least an 8. You gotta give credit where it's due. You can feel the effort it was put in the making of it. Very beautiful art, great finger tracking animation and beautiful OST. I'm pretty sure I'll end giving an 8 or 9. They have to mess up a lot for me to give it a lower rate.

imo the first episode(that now seems like a misleading clickbait) started quite promising w some interesting characters set against the backdrop of a hostess bar/rock bandmates+a girl w a similar life experiences as mc where these two would've made a good pair but somehow they're completely written off in the follow up episodes & now the show is back to being a generic highschool club drama centered around a loner genius nerd (yo where have we seen that before?) surrounded by bunch of other generic secondary characters who are somehow showing unusual interest in both him+the shamisen just like mc for no reason whatsoever, also they keep introducing new characters without proper backstory about them

so yeah idk but the show overpromised but underdelivered for me as of now tho i'll still continue as my opinion can still change

Agreed on all the points
But say didnt u get that amazing vibe every time they played the shamisen
And hey I get it not all the people like every anime and I also haven't seen much music anime like u have
Totally got that your lie in april reference but hey the show has got a lot other stuff going for it other than that
I think the show is pretty good ....not a masterpiece though
I get what u r trying to say

yes like I understand that for a music anime (i don't really watch music animes this might actually be my first) the backstory is a bit stereotypical and the first episode was so misleading (not going to lie I wish it went more in the direction that the first episode was going because I feel like that would have been more emotions inducing and really touching at the core issues that the MC feels but oh well)
the op and ed are straight up fire and also the animation is quiet tremendous. whenever he plays the shamisen I'm just completely captivated and almost always moved to tears. I just wish that we got to see more of his relationships with his family and actually focus on him finding his sound rather than this weird highschool club but it's doing ( don't get me wrong I absolutely love the show but it seems out of plce ) I just am confused as to why not that many people are watching it and talking about it because it is really beautifully animated and the shamisen parts are breath taking

So far its been a really excellent show and would defo agree its worthy of all the praise it has been getting.

That being said its a story based around a traditional musical instrument so it's a pretty niche concept for a show. So I kinda understand why it might not be everyone's cup of tea.

Only anime with a pre-existing fanbase can have a high score right after the first few episodes, like Fumetsu no Anata e and Horimiya. Fans will spam 10s because they already liked the source material.

That's why original anime are usually rated lower, at first. Mashiro no Oto isn't original, but the source material doesn't have enough members on MAL to boost the score of the anime.

I liked the first episode. If Mashiro no Oto will deserve it, the score will keep raising. Shirobako (an original anime) started at 7.18 and now it's at 8.34.

EDIT: This is a fucking 10/10. I'm sure the score will settle well above 8.00.

This season is pretty strong. We got so many good anime compared to other seasons.
And yet, people are down-voting them. I don't know why.

For me, it looks like almost every show has lower score than it should be.
Mars Red and Bishounen Tanteidan are really good, and one of them has 6.86 and the other has 7.22.
Both of them should be around 8.

The first episode actually make me drop this shows when it's airing. But then i found someone on YouTube talking about how beautiful the Shamisen part are, and make me come back to it

And yeah, in my opinion we should b doing fine without the first episodes, just added the exposition in the first part of the first episodes to the second episodes, and this shows will doing solid. The school life scenario's is surely blended better with the Shamisen part, rather than some reversed Higehiro scenario that they forced on the first episodes

The issue is, the fast pacing is too much, just like they skip carelessly all the logical explanation (Like how the guy suddenly lived with that girl, and then suddenly it has been a week, then suddenly she's leaving the house, and the MC suddenly can live freely in there, and then his mom, who looks younger than his brother suddenly showed up, like wtf?) And the set-up wasn't enough either for the live performance part on first episodes that actually make it kinda cringe

But it is true what the guy on YT says; the Shamisen part is something unique and exotic, that actually become a good enough reason to stay longer on this shows. And after 5th episodes, the rush pacing is not bothering me so much anymore. Probably because i know and i really appreciated, that at some point of the episode they would slow down and completely stop at the Shamisen performance to let us enjoy it. And i can really tell, that they spend soo much time on that part and on those beautiful sound

Also the side character's from the club are actually interesting

If this shows can get a better consistent animation, and a better pacing, it can easily reach for 8.0 even with that type of silly storytelling (just like Chihayafuru does). But i guess, it's good enough for now

@DEEP_SLASHER

Probably because all people want now and days are comedy and harem.
I mean, Dr. Stone, One Punch Man and Mushoku Tensei is proof enough.
Just my opinion anyways.

To be honest, this deserves nothing less than a 10. I don't get how this is
comparable to other music anime. 'Your Lie in April'? Although others will
disagree, now THAT was just horrible for me.

Well, I guess everyone has different tastes. Can't do anything about that.
*shrugs* There are times where you'll realize that what you like, might
be different from what the majority likes.

Aha u r completely right
Everybody's got a different taste and u can't say an anime is bad just coz it doesn't falls under a genre u like
Mashiro no oto doesn't only concentrate on the shamisen but all other aspects of a good stroy building
It's more of a slice of life anime for me (although the shamisen playing in it is Outta this world)
I hate when people compare it with your lie in april
That anime was great but that doesn't mean it will be better than every anime that tries to showcase a certain type of music
That show was romance heavy and this isn't
Overall....I m just so much obsessed with this anime that I just might give it a 10/10(tho it would have to do something very impactful to make me do so)

True
I don't get how critically can one see an anime that isn't even completed yet
One must wait for it develop or end and then rate
Most of times u see people rating show like AOT S4 pt2 a 10/10 without even seeing it
I feel like if u don't like a certain genre of anime then u shouldn't watch it or drop the anime
U don't have the right to rate an anime just after seeing one ep and then dropping it....

Those scores are not included or won't be included. I don't know exactly how they handle it.
But, you have to watch 1/5 of the series.
How are MyAnimeList scores calculated?

For me it's the opposite tbh. I thought the first episode was great and was thrilled to continue the series, but after that the show didn't quite stick with me. I think some of the drama is really exagerated and sometimes even a little bit dumb. The music and the scenes were they play shamisen are top notch though, that's why I haven't dropped it yet

Well, some people (like myself) wait until the end of the season to rate it so the rating will probably get a big boost after the finale. I like to see if an anime can pull off an ending befitting of the rest of the season before rating.

Mushoku Tensei and Dr. Stone have other things that attract people to it, me included, that aren't just harem and comedy.

Personally, I'm putting it together with Sound! Euphonium as one of the best music anime ever made so far. It gives me a lot of the same feels and the underlying themes are laid out and explored really well in both series.

Well, you also need to take into consideration that not everyone who is watching it is rating it yet either. As a previous poster pointed out, shows like Fruits Basket and To Your Eternity will almost automatically get very good ratings right off the bat because they come from a very good, well-known source material.

I can imagine there are some viewers like me that aren’t familiar with the source material and are withholding scoring until the anime is over so they can make a fair judgment on it.

Now granted, I refuse to score an anime until I complete it (or in the rare case I drop it), no matter if I’m familiar with the source material or not. If I personally had to rate it now six episodes in, I’d say it’s roughly between an 8 and 8.5. There are a lot of very breathtaking scenes in this show, but I sometimes feel a bit disjointed by its pacing and somewhat jolting storytelling. I felt like it’s character-building was lacking for a bit as well, but it’s starting to improve in that regard over the last few episodes.

I think one thing that might have affected the “early” ratings is as phenomenal as Setsu’s first performance was, the plot revolving around the first episode was a bit nonsensical. However, I will say from the second episode on, I do feel the show is finding its footing.

I think this might be my favourite of the season, I'm absolutely in love with it.

His mum is nuts tho.

The only thing that sucks right now, is a scanlation group not translating the manga.
