My original plan to experience Berserk was to just read the manga, but since this is a pretty widely praised adaptation (contrary to the more recent one), I wanted to check it off the list as well. I then decided to watch this adaptation, and then pick up the manga from there. What chapters/volumes of the manga does this adaptation cover, and which chapter to pick up from once finished?

Like from volume 3 to 13 aka the Golden Arc.
If you are gonna watch it first u need to read the Black Swordsman Arc which corresponds to the first few volumes. I watched the anime first and currently I'm reading throught the Golden Arc (the part adapted) in the manga, I think there is some major differences which merit that you read it in the manga, that make skipping it and picking up were the anime left off not a good idea. But I'm not sure since i haven't finished it yet, what i can tell you is that is a pleasure to read the manga even if you've seen the anime already.

Youll want to read the manga from the beginning dude. The anime roughly covers volumes 3-13 but you miss out on some of guts backstory with a character named donavon that was cut from the anime. Also the character Wyald and SK were cut. Wyald is an awesome character and sk is very important later on.

This may be my favorite anime of all time but its still not a perfect adaptation. The manga is still better and berserk is a franchise of such incredibly high quality that its absolutely worth experiencing every moment of the manga and 1997 adaptation.

Personally I think the movies suck. Especially the third as they butchered the most important scene in the golden age arc (the climax)
He died doing what he wanted, no matter what, right? I bet he was happy.

Good luck with berserk Kouji Mori, you'll need all the help you can get. We believe in you.

I would recommend not reading black swordsman. It spoils the big plot twist and doesn’t really matter to anything after it. I would recommend reading guts’ backstory but if you know nothing abt berserk then I would start at vol 3.

Even if you watch the anime, you will have to read the whole Manga again

If you watch the original anime, you need to watch the newer anime series in order to learn more of the story. The 2 newer seasons, contrary to what the masses say, don't actually suck. I enjoyed them. I also watched the third movie in between the 90s berserk season and the 2016-17 berserk seasons

But, if your original plan was to read the manga then you might enjoy that more. It will obviously be more consistent and not have some of the gaps that the adaptations have. I imagine that will be the best experience

If they don't suck, then what does? They are at best like a high-school project by some kids playing around with animation affects.

animation/cgi is the least important thing to a good story or show. i roll my eyes at people who blather on incessantly about animation. guts being guts is reason enough to watch and enjoy it

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

In other words; quality doesn't matter to you. As long as it has the label Berserk on it, you'll enjoy it?

It's not like these new anime are near faithful to the manga anyway.

Animation quality is also part of quality. But everything else bar possibly the music, like the directing and cinematography is also atrocious. The people behind this shitshow have already admitted they had no idea what they were doing.

Not all of us are always entertained by low quality garbage.

have a nice day, though. but be careful when you go to bed tonight. the 2016 cgi guts boogeyman might come and get you in your sleep
