Do you think this movie was snubbed with the official oscar nominations that were released recently?

New
Are you displeased that this movie wasn’t nominated?

I would’ve loved to see the movie nominated. But first up, i haven’t seen the film yet (tho i have read the manga) so i cant say if it was worthy or not yet, also, i cant say i didn’t see this coming, of course hollywood isn’t gonna pick an anime film, whether it’s the number one in japan or not. And this film being a sequel to a 26 episode series probably didn’t help much either.
What are your thoughts on this whole thing?

Honestly the movie was hype but it definetly isnt oscar material (even by the standards they have for animated films).

I think the main reason is that the movie is a sequel and a part of a series, other than that the movie could easily get the nomination as it is really greatly produced and directed.

It's no secret that the oscars suck but even if they had better taste this film didn't have any chance because I doubt most people in the academy even watched the TV series.

There's a couple reasons I don't think it was even eligible
1. I believe the rule for oscars is that it has to have a US theatrical release date which this did not
2. It's connected to a show so I doubt anyone would've watched the movie

I mean I don't care for the oscars, but they aren't gonna nominate an anime movie unfortunately. The reason being that the only movies that ever get nominated/win usually only do because they have to do with american movements/politics, which anime doesn't have to do with. Crunchyroll anime awards is where it's at.

it was actually on the official list for films that were eligible for nomination, but yet wasn’t nominated
and yeah it being a sequel to a show probably wasn’t helping it’s chances

as for Japanese anime, oscar is just one award. I don't care.
why Japanese production seek the oscar trophy is very simple.
Because Miyazaki is the only person who awaded.

The official oscars site has a list of eligible nominations and demon slayer was indeed eligible. Take a look: https://www.oscars.org/sites/oscars/files/93aa-animated-feature-eligibility-list.pdf

However, I don't believe it was snubbed of officially being nominated because it's not even seeing a theatrical or digital release in the U.S. until after the oscars. If Funimation didn't wait so long to release it here, we possibly may have seen it snag at least a nomination seeing how its been dominating the Japanese/Korean box offices and the selection this year is pretty weak. Although, the U.S. market hasn't been very friendly to 2D animation, especially if its foreign.

the thing that top 3 anime movies last year, HF III, Violet Evergarden The Movie and KnY Infinity Train, not nominated, is very concerning

I mean, the movie definitely outclasses other movies in terms of animations, plot and overall stats. But,I certainly didn't see any oscar worthy traits there

I dont even think it fits the criteria to be nominated and if it did, it having no US distribution before the Oscars meant it wasnt going to be nominated either way. And if you think a shounen movie was gonna beat Soul for the best animated movie this year then you’re just straight up delusional.

wait a shaun the sheep movie was actually nominated for an oscar?😂
I wasn't saying they were right for not nominating it, I'm just not surprised/upset by anything the oscars do anymore. The only good decision they've made in recent years was Parasite winning everything it won

No I’m not surprised. Honestly. It’s not that good. The story is so shit in this overhyped anime. The only thing it has going for it is amazing animation god damn. But means shit all when you look at any of the most boring characters in The history of anime. So fucking boring.

You claim it’s boring asf, yet you still watched both the tv series and the movie. Are you good? I guess masochism is a thing nowadays. KnY haters really can’t come up with good arguments other then “it’s overrated”. Take a break from the internet bestie

First off. Read my profile. I say I don't drop anime. Second, off I could come up with plenty of good reasons why it's overhyped. To name a few.

The Characters
The Plot Direction
Pacing
Characters doing nothing

I could go on.

Thirdly. I was offered to go to the movies with some friends. Which is why I saw it. I also am planning to read the manga, to see if I am being overly critical. As of now, my opinion stands. If you would like a further analysis on why I don't like Demon Slayer I would be happy to write up a small essay.

Amen to this, this whole kny series is so overhyped. People stopped any kind of logical reasoning to it.
Just good animation and Music that's it.
Story is ok and characters are ok. Generic af anime but just episode 19 hyped it to the point that people lost their shit, then movie earned millions why because in japan it was out in like 43-44 theaters and there were like 24 screenings in a day, covid and no movie release helped it so much but delusional kny fans think that it's a masterpiece, i watched the movie and it's just 5 episode compiled into one, that's what i felt.
Also if you are planing to read manga, i will say this it's just basic af and there is no surprise elements.
Honestly i don't know how it sold in millions. But one thing is sure the way kny is marketed everywhere, it's goddamn amazing to see.
2025 might be the year where I will be happy. This year is not happy year.

No, because the Oscars don't give a shit about anime. Unless Disney puts their name on it, then maybe.
Surprised that people still care about the Oscars to begin with but w/e ig

Thanks man lol

You are definitely right about literally everything you said. Though I do like Demon Slayer, but it being nominated for anything other than animation is wayyyyyy beyond me. Jesus. I like your profile btw
