Because of Season 4 Episode 3 or whatever chapter that is in the manga where they give Reiner's full backstory, shows that he really didn't feel like he had much of a choice and that he hates what he was doing. Had a mental breakdown, depression and attempted suicide. And despite all this I still don't care much for Reiner and really want him to die. He has survived death way too many times that it makes me upset. But hate him or love him he was still a great addition to the story.

I don't have a problem with people who feel sympathetic towards him, I mean there is a good reason for them to feel sorry for him, but he's just not my type of character. I mean if your gonna betray your friends fine but at least own up to it and stop the damn self pitying, that's just appaling.

Honestly I feel more sorry for Annie cause she seemed like she wanted to go home more than anyone else and was forced to stay by Reiner😤. Also despite Annie being a ruthless murder she still didn't kill her friends and even if she did I doubt she would go as far off the deep end like Reiner, and she'd own up for her actions.

Annie became best girl after this along with Hange, Misaka, Sasha and Historia off course.

I still can't forgive annie how she killed levis squad, but many people seems to forget that:/

Pieck. Then the genderlessness that is manga-Hange. But I'm probably the only person who stayed manga-only til this season and started watching for Pieck. Sticking around to salute those who are about to die; besides, there's a hole in my anime life until Furuba Season 3.
Have started watching from the beginning. Gotta say, knowing everything that will happen with the titan shifters and watching them in hiding in s1 is a bit disconcerting. Annie apologizing to the dead in Trost and Reiner telling her that won't help takes on a very different tone then it would have for those who watched it blind way back when it was airing.
