Domain Expansion was crazy, that’s what real Jujutsu is? Epic

It publishes in Weekly Shounen Jump, it's Shounen but comparatively darker than others.

Might sound nitpicking by a manga reader but Domain Expansion was much better in the manga, it's still great here but compared to the same in manga, it feels watered down

this is just kind of boring me, despite it was ostensibly one long action scene, but it's not being particularly impressive on the directorial/choreography aspect

There's no story for the monster of the week, not even to the level of Garo or Dororo. (even this cheap plot is too much effort for the writers) It literally begins with them being told "Hey, here's a random encounter. Go, uh, fight it." And then they kind of fight it, I guess. That's the whole story and all the dramatic elements of the entire episode.

Even then, it blows its stakes pretty early by ripping an arm off. Since we know that's not going to actual be serious, everything after that isn't much higher than torture porn. And then he re-taps into The Darkness Within, in the same way that we already saw before, but I guess this monster is somewhat different? It just feels like I've already seen this episode, not just in a countless other Jump shows, but from this very show itself, only a couple weeks ago.

Dude...this was literally such a crucial episode for Itadori and Megumi. Even sukuna. If u just saw it as "a random encounter" where they go fight whatever...then that's on you. And what do u mean torture porn, Itadori is gonna get messed up. Do u want him to go out with no pain or something. Get a random ass pull of a transformation lmao

Honestly speaking, the pacing and atmosphere of this anime is done quite well (a little too fast paced tbh), but having mc accessing to free deus ex machina whenever he calls for it is a bit much, especially at this early on into the serie. All the "struggling" feels artificial afterward. (Especially the missing body able to heal when he pleases too)

So mc is able to freely control the curse king that's so strong with 1/10 of his power is able to annihilate another special grade curse, but then mc is no match to the lowly curse monster even though he is able to control something this strong?

Also this mission makes 0 sense. If they already knew there's a special grade curse in it, what's the point of sending a bunch of students in? What are they trying to achieve? They end up escaping immediately anyway. They enter the domain just to check "hey, I'm just here to confirm if there's really a special grade curse monster in it, so let's send in 3 juvillene who has 0 chance of winning?"
Is the association really this dumb? They already knew there's a special grade monster in it isn't it?

They explained that at the begining of the chapter tho...
Their mission was never to fight, it was to rescue possible survivors, also they didn't know there was a special grade curse, they said it was a posibility and if that was the case, they were told to scape....

What amazing animation from MAPPA!
Totally loved it as a Manga reader. The emotional moment was way better here for Yuji.

I'm also kind of disappointed about how they showcased Sukuna's Domain Expansion, but if I remember correctly we will see it soon enough again.

That concludes vol 1 of the Manga. Pacing is really good. like.... 8 chapters into 4 episodes is a really good anime pacing.

Damn, that episode was wild. Itadori is definitely a great MC, and he finally learned how to use cursed energy sadly it wasn't enough. Do I smell training arc someday.

Sukuna is fucking awesome, he's one of those likeable pieces of shit. If there was something higher than a special grade then Sukuna is definitely it. That special grade didn't even hold a candle to him. Does, Gojou have a domain expansion too? That'd be dope as fuck.

Welp, looks like Itadori is lights out right now. Sukuna is gonna go wild let's go.

Such a great episode!

So the dead one mentioned the last episode is Yuuji ?? I relaxed a little bit because I believe the main character must have something special.( But the white dog's death made me feel like a pity...)

The first part: OHHHH The new curse is so POWERFUL.How can we beat him?
The second part : How could you have the name of super curse huh ??

Hope to see how Megumi can prevent Sukuna who got Yuuji's body.

A "fair/worthy" death.......... That fight scene between Itadori and the cursed fetus make me have some thoughts:

1) Is it worthy to abandon, have any kind of indifference and not help others just for the fear of sacrificing your own skin for any explainable or considered 'egoist'/individual motive? Just for the fear to injure yourself or have an not imaginable death that might be worthless in the end?

2) I mean, Yuji's grandpa told himself that he was en egoist and stingy person for whole life and he believed that's is the main motive for him having an lonely death bed. No soul visiting, contacting or missing him besides his own grandson...

3) Even if you don't think like this way, even if you have a very empathetic and helpful character toward people in general, your 'honorable' and good values might be getting trembled when they pass through an approval situation, and that's what happened to Yuji, he started to doubt and to loss confidence about his values and motivations which drove him until there moment.

4) Or you just follow your life the way you can, without thinking about having an fair death, doing what you believe you must do, no needing to get so cautious about the (unforeseen) future, a cautious that could avoid any possible good fruitful relationship?

5) Alias, what the fuck is a "fair" or "worthy" death really?? Does something like that exist or is it just a vague idea? I mean it's something we don't have any control of: about how, when, where and who we'll die alongside to. I think everybody has a fair and deserved death, depending on what each one might did in its life.

By the way, is it just me who think ridiculous the heart designed in Nobara's hammer..???? I seriously don't see any necessity beyond a frivolous aesthetic side....... I hope no Nobara and no Gege curse me for having a valid opinion.

ANOTHER NOTE: Jujutsu Kaisen anime adaptation just released 4, I mean FOUR fucking episodes in its first season, and MAL users are already publishing huge reviews with good scores about the series that's still far way to be completed??? These people suffers from anxiety or something?? Really. Jujutsu anime is doing pretty well this far, and I'm enjoying a lot! But we don't know how this season is gonna end... I think people here like to make very hasty evaluations. Some are saying that JJK is already a masterpiece........ I mean: what???? There is just FOUR EPISODES RELEASED. Everything, including the manga narrative progress, is still in the beginning!
During this course it can be perceived that Jujutsu Kaisen has many possibilities to be one of highlights in shounen genre and in this anime generation. But still.

Oh right, no way they finished these nice arc at one episode only, right?

I am still curious about Nobara, how could she ended up like that? I didn't even believed when she was supposed in the frog mouth but ended up with that bad conditions. Well, maybe in the last of the arc everything must be explained precisely. Here they were, 4 episodes in, already fighting against a highest level of curse. Its not even just a rescue mission, its a suicide mission! Itadori even couldn't even had a power to came back again after changing his positions with Sukuna. Ah, then Fushigiro must battling against Sukuna. No way he could defeat him! But i don't want him to death! Damn, its went to another cliffhanger, ofc, its need to post-poned a bit before its get fast. But why Kakash--err, i mean, Gojou sensei left them like that? He really such a dedicated and respected sensei, really had a nice type of heart that left his student with that kind of situation. Oh, man, why Gojou sensei ....

Okay, left aside the plot wise aspect, these episode was so amazing with its animation against their action packed. Its intensification, tho. Full of blood, full of violence too, and i just love all of that graphics. Full of thrilling moments, especially when suddenly Nobara dissappeared, and the white dog, death, i thought she was died too. Lol. The question was the real power and then, how to use the Curse properly? Its still remain unknown. Poor Itadori, didn't had a chance to learnt it first, not even from Sukuna. Yeah, love his expression at the end xD.

The next one must be great again, i can't wait for it. But i must hold my curiosity. Because, more characters had an appearance again. Then, the battle of one sided, must be great to see the outcome. Okay, enough, thats it for now.

what do you mean Itadori's double? Sukuna's his own person, not just like a split personality version of Yuji. He's also the main antagonist of the series, if you can't tell already, so he's not just your cliche "powerup with dire consequences". He shouldn't be treated like a powerup at all. You should see him as a villain hiding in the protagonist's body and eavesdropping on all the conversations so he can gain the upperhand later. Yuji will learn and develop powers of his own and will never rely on Sukuna, not even in a dire situation, because he will soon learn that Sukuna is pure evil and shall not be trusted with control of his body. Pretty deece but there's one thing that bugged me. I feel like it doesn't make sense that there are no other Sorcerers (or w/e) available to help out in this very serious (I mean you heard how that one suit described it) situation. This sorcerer organization or whatever tf is so big that they have a university, but their logistics are in such a mess that all they can managed are a bunch of recruits? I don't buy it. It breaks my immersion. I get the author wanted to have MC fight a rly strong curse so that he would have to let Sukuna out, but it would have a lot more believable for me if they had unexpectedly been attacked/stumbled into this special grade curse. This is pretty nitpicky but it's the kind of world building decisions that I pay attention to.

Gojo was sent off on a mission. He didn't know his students were about to be sent on a suicide mission. Yes, that's exactly what this is, and there's a reason for it.
Nobara didn't get injured AFTER getting inside the frog, she was injured BEFORE getting inside the frog. We saw her almost get eaten. U thought she would have just let the curses grab her without a fight? She must have fought desperately but lost cause there're so many of them, and got beaten down before she was finally caught.

yet another enjoyable & great episode! the humour can actually be so good when it's not slapstick reaction/gags, it takes away so much from the tension. the humour is definitely in the witty dialogue.

i love itadori already, what a refreshing MC. his regrets & fears were really well-conveyed. i also LOVE the voice work that enoki junya is doing for him!

also i feel like anyone who is complaining that the curse was so easily defeated is clearly missing the point - pretty sure the narrative & focus this episode wasn't mean to be (solely) the curse, but sukuna lol

ttcchen said:

i think ur main criticism with this anime is due to your misinterpretation of Sukuna as simply a power instead of an actual villain/antagonist. "But the power is ridiculously stronger than most enemies, which makes the tension be considerably lower than what it should be." Sukuna isn't a powerup or a plot device or a deus ex machina for Yuji to tame and learn to take control of. He's his own person and frankly speaking after his performance in this episode you should've known that he's pure evil and is the main antagonist of this series, so he'll never be tamed or persuaded to join the good side and help Yuji, cause he IS the bad side. he is the big bad boss of this anime. all the villains see him as their boss.

so what you're worried about (him becoming simply a power and lowering the tension) will NEVER happen. Plus, what had happened recently in the manga pretty much established the fact that Sukuna is unredeemable and there's absolutely 0% chance he'll become good, EVER.

that 5 minute you mentioned is to show us how much damage sukuna can do if he's allowed control of Yuji's body (more will be shown next episode). it's not to show us that "oh sukuna is this strong so once yuji controls him he can gain this power and become this strong too!" it's to show us the power difference between Yuji and him, the final boss.

^well put - i couldn't agree more!

Don't know anything about the behind-the-scenes of this show (like what people are working on it and whatnot) but I'd be lying if I said I didn't expect this to turn out the same way God of Highschool did. Boy am I glad I was wrong.

So far this show exceeded my expectations with the 2nd episode and it keeps meeting the ones set higher ever since then. Should've given MAPPA the benefit of the doubt, because most of their shows are great, even though many have minor flaws. But overall, this show has been a really great watch and I've been watching every single episode from start to finish without skipping any second of it, ever since they showed the OP and ED. This episode in particular was more focused on the action and Sukuna, and I'm really looking forward to see how they develop his character!

Currently, it has two review giving it 8 each. Journey of Elaina with top reviews giving it 8,8,8,8,5 with 4 episode out, Tonikaku kawaii with 10,8,8,7,3 as top reviews with 4 episodes out. I didn't expect them to produce a banger of an episode so early, I am enjoying this show more 4 episodes in than I was enjoying Demon Slayer 4 episodes in, so lets hope it can maintain it's production values and create a 'Demon Slayer Episode 19'-esque episode later in this season that will make my jaw drop. Not that it needs one when it has a pretty entertaining story (and characters) when compared to Demon Slayer (first season that is).

5/5

I have no patience so I might go read/catch up to the manga before the next episode drops.

It was lame. I'm giving it one more episode. The comedy moments are just stupid, totally ruins any tension.

What the fuck was the author thinking...honestly.
I don't like the comedy in this anime either but is it really that big of a problem ? If the comedy was the main focus I would understand but here it's really not. And the comedy isn't even that bad most of the times.

The problem is that it ruins the tension building of a scene. You have a mother bawling and MC going serious face. The danger of the setting is established, Special grade monster, creepy environment, etc. Cliche, but okay good.

Then in the middle of this, they through in slapstick comedy, breaking the sense of danger and seriousness that was building. This is not a comedy, and this is not a funny moment. One must know when to be serious and when to be humorous. When you try to mix in as this episode does, it ends up ruining everything.

Shit like this tells me exactly what level the author is at, and what I can expect going ahead. I'm not impressed. Hopefully, I'm proven wrong next episode. The last two episodes have been rough.

Good episode but that stupid slapstick humour almost ruined the mood of this episode. Does anyone find it funny?

I mean it wasn't that bad but Japanese creators often have bad timing with these funny scenes, I like when the anime is specifically divided into lighter humorous and more serious episodes, throwing a comedy scene at such point makes no sense and dystroying the atmosphere of the episode.

Check my profile again. And yes, Kimetsu no Yaiba suffers from this as well.
