| The title says it all. To the epitome an anime that falls into this situation is My Hero Academia. Now I like My Hero Academia I think it is pretty good anime but that's it. I don't think it's the greatest anime of all time nor do I think it's the worst anime of all time. It's like a 7.5/10 to me. However I have never seen a show as massively overhype by it's fanbase and at the same time so extremely shat on by it's hater the way MHA is and it honestly kind of fascinates to be honest. Edit: When I say overrated and overhated I mean an anime that is both at the same time. Not one anime you think is overrated and one you think is overhated. Just wanted to clarify things so people don't get confused. |

| Well another obvious one is SAO. I don't think SAO is a good anime, but I do enjoy watching it as sort of a guilty pleasure. I know there are a lot of things wrong with the anime, but that doesn't mean you should look down on people for liking it. Although, War of the Underworld is NOT overhated, probably because the only people watching it are fans of the series. I watched it out of obligation, but man was it a pain to get through... |
| Most things that get insanely popular aren't that bad or that good. Like Demon Slayer, MHA, SAO (I haven't seen SAO in a while so I might dislike it more now but as one of intro anime it did it's job lol), Darling in the FranXX, etc. |

| Personally love ditf but people say that shits better than eva which isnt the case, its overhated because of the ending which is eh, reasonable but that doesnt even fully take away from the experience. |

| Clannad doesn’t do anything to stand out from hundreds of other dramas, but it’s a good drama. Fans who hate Nadia’s island arc overrate the rest of the series. An adaptation can be overhated by someone who overrates its source material. |

| SAO takes the top spot without a doubt. Oregairu gets lots of hate mainly for the MC One Piece as well people always mentioning its wacky artstyle and its length |

| Kimetsu no Yaiba and Violet Evergarden. Because of their pretty visuals, people are harsher in their other categories. Which doesn't make much sense. It isn't because the anime is overly beautiful that it should get a penalty for having a basic, not extraordinary plot. Artstyle is also a good selling point in an animated project so they deserve the praise for at least doing something great. |
