The Filipino comic named Trese by Budjette Tan and Kajo Baldisimo got a Netflix original animated series adaptation. Some said it was going to be an anime adaptation. Whatever it is, what do you think? Leave a reply

Too bad the comic's adaption is getting picked up by Netflix as they tend to ruin everything they touch.

As a Filipino myself, I appreciate the work that has been brought up into Netflix anime adaptation.

But seriously tho, just stop with the “Pinoy Pride”. We, including me, don’t care about this patriotic propaganda. It sounds great, but awful at the same time.

Next time, don’t bring a patriotic name around the internet.

Read the comic book and its mediocre.

Also, everything Netflix touches turns into mush.

I saw the trailer in the other day. I think it's good enough. Average artstyle like that.

The official trailer looks good, but given Netflix's subpar standards, I think we know where this is heading.

The trailer, at least, is not bad at all. I think I will watch the first couple of episodes when this is released (on June 11) to see if it's worth watching more. Of course we are not going to see it listed here. The source material is Filipino, which should not be a hurdle.

However the main production company (BASE Entertainment) is from freaking Singapore and the animation studio is Jay Oliva's Lex and Otis, which is US based. At least the two Filipino creators of Trese are serving as showrunners, so unless Jay Oliva imposes his "heft" on them it's remotely possible that they will retain a semblance of creative control.

As for the MAL listing eligibility as far as I know only Chinese and South (only?) Korean productions are eligible for listing here (beside Japanese obviously), though I still do not quite get the reasoning behind this, assuming one even exists.
