What does an anime poster mean to you? Does it provoke you to watch/avoid a particular show?
I do get attracted by stylish posters with a retro feel...
In context, I had noticed many people who wrote off the AoButa anime of Fall'18 on seeing its title and poster alone. If you have encountered similar incidents, you can share in the comments :)

I have watched a few anime because the posters/key visuals/DVD covers were good but after witnessing the absolute disgrace that was the xmen rip off known as towa no quon I prefer not to do that. Congrats to the guy in charge of marketing, those posters look very nice.

It doesn't mean anything much but it can affect my decision to pick up the show or not.

For example, when I saw Madoka Magica, I was instantly turned off. But later, I was able to reconsider it.

Steins; Gate poster caught my attention and I decided to watch it because I like the red haired girl in the poster.

Poster is one of the most important factors for me in picking any anime or manga. I definitely pick that anime up if it's poster is giving me a vibe that I am in mood for. Also it disappoints me if anime direction fails to deliver the vibe that poster gives as is case with sasameki koto.

Key visuals (if that’s what you’re talking about) will always pull people towards a show or push them away even if they deny it. It’s the same as judging a book by a cover, everyone will do it unconsciously.

Poster/key visual design doesn't affect my decision to watch a show but an attractive design sure does look nice. I don't like the posters where they put every character on there and it's just a hodge-podge of information. I like the minimalistic designs more where some attention to the background has also been paid.

I liked that poster. Haven't seen the show. Why's it misleading?

I guess I'll have to explain that situation all over again...
On the website i watched this anime on,before the actual poster there was this one which misled people into thinking this was a shounen ai anime with the suggestive way these characters were looking at each other.I saw in the comments how people got all up in arms about this and lots of them were dropping the show left and right because they assumed it was going to be shounen ai.

Posters are so misleading most of the time. Like you see a group of cute girls and think you're safe to watch. But guess what - there's a sneaky sausage in the cast and this anime is actually a harem. Well, thank you, I'm out.

Ah yea I can see the shounen ai vibes. Thanks for the explanation.

I guess the posters do tend to affect me, and probably more than I think they do. I like the ones that seem to be set in an actual location, rather than just a collage of all the characters clustered together, though that can work if the colours are nice (looking at Spring 2020, Wave, Listen to Me! and The Millionaire Detective both do this) Though, however good-looking the poster is, it's still doesn't really tell me very much about if I'm going to like the actual show. It's a good litmus test, but it's not all-encompassing.

My two favourite posters from this upcoming season are probably Yesterday wo Utatte and Listeners, and it's easy to see why, considering how similar they are, structurally.

If the cute girl in poster grabs my attention, it's at least worth checking and that's all
