I made an anime chat server on a discord alternative called keybase

Okay so, listen closely. I recently found out of this end to end encrypted discord alternative called keybase. Basically, it has similar functions to discord (being able to create a public chat room with an unlimited amount of people), though unlike discord, keybase is end to end encrypted, meaning you don't have to worry about anyone spying on your conversations! On top of that, its free speech, so they don't have any of discord's dumb rules. You can post anything as long as its legal, including loli! It's also open sourced, and you can share large files! I had created my account initially because of a hentai chat room I joined, which allowed loli (don't judge).

So, now that I got all that out of the way. There was no anime server (or team as they are called on keybase) so I made one!
It's simply called "keybase_anime".

After you install the program, and make an account, you gotta go to where it says "join a team", then, just type in "keybase_anime", and you're in!

The program can be downloaded here:
https://keybase.io

There's currently no members on the chat room as this is the only place I've advertised this on.

A messenger with group chats and end-to-end encryption which is not from Microsoft or Facebook and doesn't have restrictions like Discord? Sounds enticing enough to try it out.

My name is the same as here.

I haven't tried this one out, I usually stick to Tox for conversations between small groups and Matrix for Discord-style groups.

Edit after looking into it: Hey it's a blockchain-based chat! Sounds interesting but I think P2P is a better idea.

HMMMMMMMMMMMMM... It's free software so anyone could run an instance without sharing such information, but even less people would use it then.

I tried 2 use tox b4, but I couldn't find an1 2 use it with. As far as I'm concerned, there's no way 2 make any type of big, public group chat like on discord with tox.

There's group functionality on Tox but I haven't used it so I don't know how that works. For groups I use Matrix since that's basically the go-to Discord replacement.

I also have Tox, but I never came to properly test it. The problem with it, keybase and similar ones (also looked for Mumble, but it didn't seem to be easy to use so I dropped that) is that there are simply too few people using them.

One interesting thing about keybase is that you can have 250GB free space:

https://keybase.io/docs/kbfs

However, I haven't found out about how many characters you can use in a message with keybase and the other less-known messengers. btw.: I've found the MSN-messenger (before Microsoft took Skype) to be the best-looking messenger of all-time

problem with this kind of chat services is the low amount of users

try this one https://delta.chat/en/ since it uses all existing emails so you got a lot of users that way

Basically the network effect. Everyone uses X because people are using X because everyone uses X. Really hard to fight against.

It's bcz of this that websites don't need 2 better themselves. They have no reason 2 care about the quality of their service if they know ppl aren't going anywhere, and that's why it pisses me off when ppl don't support alternatives.

Thanks for the suggestion; I tried it, but it seems like there is no iOS version currently available to download.

Aside from that, I would need to know the mail addresses of the other persons and considering that people mostly have their private clear name accounts and throwaway/registering mail accounts for pseudonymous logins, this makes it harder to find people in the first place.

@Aldnox and @_Aqua_Sama_ (and deg):

You all three have pretty much stated the issue with the low number of participants. It might be difficult to make a large group switch to another service, but it's more realistic to convince a few users to use alternative chatting programs even when I failed to do so

Most people don't want to move once they've settled on a particular service and still feel comfortable with the users there. I myself would have stayed with the MSN messenger which at least was visually appealing compared to Discord and Skype.

I think Riot is better. You can host your own server and make the client look exactly like discord.

^ Yeah Riot/Matrix is mostly the way to go. It's not perfect. The protocol itself is kinda shit from a technical perspective. But hey, it works, and since it's free everyone can implement it.

I used Riot 4 a bit but it stopped working, as in, it gives me an error whenever I try to log in 2 the website. I tried installing it on my PC but it also gave me an error.

Never had that happen to me. Well, there's a lot of Matrix clients, not just Riot.

I haven't been using it that much as of recently. The chat still exists though, feel free to join it if you want.

Does keybase have one single set of servers managed by one entity (like Discord), or does it just let anyone host a server (like IRC)?

also, IRC does text chat better than Discord anyway

The server/team is probably dead or something.

For anyone who finds themselves here a long time after it seems this chat may be gone I started a new one on keybase under clares_demention to all that still want a nsfw space for all.
