For me, it's the Black Lagoon manga (which I started recently because I heard it was returning from the Hiatus) and I'm kinda surprised because the story is interesting as fuck and the characters are developing really well.

is the manga better than the anime?
i didn't think the anime was bad, but i find it difficult to watch again

To be fair, it only has an extra arc that hasn't been animated since the last one was Roberta's Blood Trail. If you didn't enjoy the anime, maybe you should skip it, because it's the same thing in every aspect.

I say it's interesting because I really enjoyed the anime and the manga goes further into converting the characters into real mfs, especially Rock.

Kyou kara Ore wa!! - absolutely hilarious show, but I guess it's forgotten because juvenile delinquents just aren't cool anymore?

Getter Robo - given how extremely popular Gurren Lagann is, I'm surprised to never see anyone looking up this franchise.

Urusei Yatsura - a series with with 195 episodes and 6 movies that I'm sure was very well-known in the 80s and early 90s but here in 2019 I feel like I often feel like I'm the only one who still cares.

Probably Love Riron (Love Theory) as a Manga, most anime I've watched have been pretty well known (for the exception of maybe a handful of shows I watched out of pure boredom). But Love Theory is probably the funniest medium of plot I can really go off of knowing as well as it not being that well known. I can't find any place that sells the physical copy of it's Manga anywhere for the US to buy at least. Which stinks because I'd love to support the creator other than paying for a Crunchyroll subscription to read the manga.

Yeah, I like watching unknown anime related stuff that are registered on MAL, so I can add an episode discussion, and be one of the first to watch it in the past many years.

Space Cobra(1982) has surprisingly great animation like it is an anime from 1990-2000.
Only 4,542 people completed it. I think it is because it has "Space" in its title and people expect a boring story.

I feel like I'm the only one that's watched Horus. But in the back of my mind, I remember my irl friend was the one who told me about it.

Yeah, I guess. And I suppose I might as well label Western Wolves, Kan'u, Ryofu, Hakufu and Ryomou being guest characters in Senran Kagura Estivel Versus and Peach Beach Slash respectively, and even Extravaganza Epoch as "apparently Ikki isn't done yet despite being kneecapped by Queen's Blade."

Nekojiru Gekijou Jirujiru Original - They mostly talk about the movie, if they talk about it *at all*. Pretty niche anime, but I personally find it funny and interesting. Especially the creator and the background of it all.

Galaxy Railways. I guess war trains in space is not as interesting as a WWII based spaceship.

@Maneki-Mew What's this "young" "target audience" of Madoka? o-O

@rojitoki It's only a MAL/Internet thing. In real life, it is still highly consumed (manga/TV/OAV). Even the movie that some despise is surviving, on style alone.
Also, who would not want to check the promise of a space James Bonds' adventures".
The comparison is pretty weird too: late90s-2000s is the awkward transition to full digital and the technical "peak" of jap. cellulo animation started somewhere in the 80s who boasts quite "advanced" movies / OAVs and technically well made TV shows and ended in the early 90s.

Gallery fake, Zegapain, Uchuu Kyoudai, etc.

They are all very good anime, but I don't see a lot of people talk about them/etc.

Not for Madoka, for Uta Kata. 😅
Sorry that wasn't so clear.

That thing is "hyperactive" and overdone and actually feels like a 90s imo, but the setting is very interesting and I liked it so far. Will continue it, when it has finished. But I feel like almost nobody is watching it. The number isn't high either.

Do you know these people who say "Shounen is shit" and the only things they could name and they didn't personally like are Naruto or Bleach or Dragonball.
And I think: https://myanimelist.net/anime/6444 👈 Do you even know such things exist too?

https://myanimelist.net/anime/6203 <- that was so good and nobody wants to watch it :/

Ah, yes, i always feel like most anime i have watched are completely unknown to many anime watchers, especially when it comes to Shoujo anime, i mean, even those like Fruits Basket and
Full Moon wo Sagashite which have such high scores and probably used to be pretty popular back in the day, nowadays, whenever i go to someones profile 90% of the time both are completely missing from their list....

Even lesser known shounen too are forgotten like Matantei Loki Ragnarok, Rockman.EXE, Shaman King, Tegamibachi and strangely even Shoukoku no Altair, even though it came out in 2017, almost no one watches it, it's soo sad. :(

Not to mention super old anime like the World Masterpiece Theater, which i'm pretty sure most newer fans wouldn't even want to watch them! X__X

Unless they are super mainstream, i think most anime regardless of how good they are just get forgotten in the dust, it's such a shame... ;__;

My staple answer to this question is Mugen no Ryvius. One of my favorite animes, but nobody ever seems have even heard about it... Seriously, it's great. You should watch it.

Posting so the topic gets saved to my watched list. I have the feeling I'll find some gems in here

Not the only one for sure but one of the few I guess, I'd say Shuukan Storyland
https://myanimelist.net/anime/13551/Shuukan_Storyland

And mangawise, I recently finished Sommelier, which was brilliant but doesn't seem to be too popular
https://myanimelist.net/manga/7449/Sommelier?q=somme

And currently reading Natsuko no sake, which is also pretty good but even less popular than Sommelier
https://myanimelist.net/manga/5264/Natsuko_no_Sake/stats

And that's about all I can think of now.

I am a big fan of Saki. It's not breaking new grounds by any means, but for the underserved subgenre that is mahjong anime, I find it quite enjoyable. I just wish they would finish the tournament arch in the manga already so we can get another season.
