I collected many, many gifs of this episode's fighting scenes... Particularly love the part where mc's sword kinda twirls around (?) before launching to target. Too cool!

Aquatic ghosts?! Amazing!!! or Ugly Siren?! kekeke

I liked the aesthetic of the episode, great quality and the fight in the lake was cool and with this point of insecurity for what will happen!!!

Great episode one more time!

Exactly this, the animation is breathtaking but the narration of the story is quite poor.

It could be just not your thing since Chinese stories tend to be heavy in detail, MDZS is like a really good historical Chinese drama but done right and in animation. I tend to prefer the details and hints because it forces the viewer to actually be actively attentive whereas most nip anime tend to be something where my brain goes off for the majority of air time. My first run through left me with a lot of questions but nothing that can't be fixed by rewatching it (too good not give it multiple run throughs).

Yeah, that’s probably it. Too much backstory details, we hardly ever get this in Japanese Animation, so it’ll probably take a while to get used to this method. I have watched upto 10 or so episodes now and things are really starting to get tense, I must say. Definitely enjoying more as the show progresses!
Oddly enough, I didn’t mind the large info dump of Quanzhi Gaoshou(the King’s Avatar) though. But again, they’re completely different shows essentially so it’s not probably not appropriate to compare MDZS to QG anymore.

Did anyone catch that little bit of Shanghainese from the girl who threw a basket of loquats to WuXian? She said nong ho, which is shanghainese for ni hao in mandarin. But the subtitle said "take this" except I don't think it translates like that directly. Didn't sound like mandarin to me. The next thing she says also doesn't sound like mandarin, so some other dialect similar to Shanghainese. Any thoughts? I was like waiiittt, cuz my parents are from ShangHai, so I recognized it (if I'm right). Interesting I wonder if there's any other expression of other dialects in the other episodes.

That's a nice catch lol in the novel it's very specific about how the girls in caiyi town talk with a different dialect

There's a audio drama extra called 'Loquat', it covers this very scene and more. It also has Lan WangJi call Wei WuXian 'pathetic' in Gusu dialect. Very amusing, I can link it to you if you want.
I think there's a map somewhere that shows where the places in MDZS are in actual China.

This episode was pretty cool, I thought it would be boring but I was wrong! I loved the funny comments made about him. The teasing at the end was funny.
"When clouds appear, wise men put on their cloaks;
When great leaves fall, the winter is at hand;
When the sun sets, who doth not look for night?
Untimely storms make men expect a dearth."

William Shakespeare
