I'm going to be blunt here, I hate the system call system. It is a soft magic type of system as is used in Harry Potter or LOTR, and that is perfectly fine. However, it is very poorly used. The anime has quickly fallen into the trap of making the encounters into screaming matches. It's a battle between who has the better imagination and nothing else.

As seen in episode 8 (not sure), the characters will lock swords or fists and just push on each other, trying to scream or imagine harder than the other. There are no tactics, skill, or even just dumb luck. It essentially became a Pokemon battle where the monster with the higher level always wins...boring.

I really wanted this series to be good, yet it seems to have also crashed after the good beginning. Let me know if the story ever gets out of this hole, or if it just burns up as done for the other series.

The "Screaming matches" has for the most parts been sparring. Outside of EP 10 none of those fights has actually had people trying to kill eachother. Real fights are coming up.

more like "who has stronger willpower" formula overused by powertard animes since dragonball, bleach etc. no real "sword art" fights except when liena-senpai combo her sword with whip & eugeo parries humbert's attack. but it was too slow & dumb (for the so-called elite disciple)

Thats why I loved the original SAO setting, no fucking magic
"This emotion is mine alone.
It is for Madoka alone." - Homura
or how I would descripe Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica.
