It's themes, characters and settings are based on history, yes, but it's also a battle action fantasy chuunige. Genderbending is just one of the things you should expect in a franchise within this genre of media, especially since it was there since the very conception of the series, and frankly, a good number of these genderbends are considerably better than what more historical depictions would have been (for an example, I've been more charmed by Fate's take on Musashi and Nobunaga than any other anime/manga I've seen them in). It's also awfully overblown, since out of 150+ unique characters, there's roughly 20 genderbends. For the Da Vinci case, it's already been explained in a sarcastic manner, but Fate!Da Vinci specifically remodelled his body to that of Mona Lisa because it fits his vision of the Ideal Body/Beauty which he wanted to achieve. |

I don't see where the problem is. I actually like the Fate explanation a lot. Da Vinci had the ability to make his own vessel, so he made it be what he considers the most beautiful thing he created; the pinnacle of human beauty he could perceive. Honestly, when you consider how some shit in the Nasuverse just doesn't make sense, yet taken completely for granted (like how Nero looks identical to Artoria because Artorios), this looks perfectly logical. Da Vinci is the least of the design choices complaints I have of this game. For me, #! to #9 is Boudica. |

| While the third ascension looks good compared to the previous two, it still looks meh. The concept of the design itself is really plain. Maybe it's all the white and frilly clothes, which don't suit somebody with the legacy of Boudica. This will always be my favorite piece of art featuring FGO Boudica. It's across with her Civilization counterpart. |
| Da Vinci is my favorite genderbend in the series because he's the only in-universe genderbend, other than D'eon and Seiba that one time. They could have easily just said he was actually Mona Lisa the whole time, but they went the extra mile and actually made him an old man who wanted to be a hot chick and loli so much that he became one, which is completely in-character. |

When I realized that the optional event quest is the infamous "Unlimited YAHOOOO Works" Mordred NP spam quest, I got my Jeanne ready and went in. It's finally time for my "Hop. Step. MURDEROUS OCEAN!" plan to take place. As you can see, I had a problem from the get-go. All the Tamamos in my support list who used to have Prisma Cosmos are equipping event CEs, so I can't find one with either it or Kaleidoscope. For that, I had to improvise. I used my own Prisma Cosmos Tamamo and used a Command Spell on support Tamamo. Everything is now ready for Moriarty to never look at dolphins the same way again. Dolphin Rape Noble Phantasm Loop Dolphin Style, LET'S GO! Things were going so well until Moriarty's NP killed Tamamo. Now, looking at this, it finally hit me. A true NP loop with an enemy who can kill a party member with his NP despite all their defenses, flat out can't be done with Jeanne for the simple reason that is: Mordred's NP secondary effect. Mordred's NP effect gives her a 50% chance of reducing the enemy's NP gauge by 1. This helps completely close the gap between Tamaamo's NP drain that gets reduced to 3 turns, instead of 5 as it's effectively 4, not 3 because the enemy's bar is full and they can act the turn before the player. Not only that, but Mordred has the chance to activate that effect one time each turn and she needs only one to actually hit every three turns for the loop to continue. It's too freaking perfect for this exact setup. In simple terms, every 3 turns, the double Tamamos can take away 2 NP bars, leaving Moriarty with 1 still. With their best effort, after 9 turns, Moriarity will be able to get 3 bars and be able to fire his NP... unless Mordred is there to remove these extra bars and she has all the time in the world to do it thanks to her NP spam. Jeanne's 30 stars every turn loop is vicious and she's easily able to outperform Mordred in both NP gen and damage thanks to the free for all crits... as long as the party can survive an enemy NP. It's a shame there isn't readily available quest I can test and show this with at the moment, but at least now I know what to do in similar quests in the future. As for the optional quest, I had Nero run in and substitute Tamamo when the pluguit CD ran out and finish the quest at the 15 turns mark. Note how while Jeanne lost her spamability at turn #10 and Nero only jumped in turn #15, she was still able to clear the quest faster than Mordred, who finished it in turn #16. | Phantom's personality and lore are absolutely fine and fitting for who he is. He does, however, lack severely in screen-time and attention in general, but it should have been obvious from the start that he wouldn't be among the first Servants to get animation updates. There's still around 50 Servants, if not more, that need an animation update and some of the more popular ones haven't even received one yet so why would you expect the less popular characters to get them first? I'm more interested in Kiyohime, Marie and Martha's animation updates personally and despite Kiyohime's popularity, she has yet to get one. |

Because that's how it's been before. Logically speaking, the fact that there're popular characters who still haven't gotten animation updates means that unpopular characters got them first. Therefore it implies that DW isn't necessarily updating Servants by popularity, which we already know is true as lol 3 years to strengthen mascot. |

I mean you're absolutely right that their way of thinking isn't ''the most popular ones get the updates first'' because otherwise Scathach and Okita would have already gotten theirs, but there's still a pretty clear influence of popularity/desirability in the choices they pick. Why else do you think Artoria, Gilgamesh, Elizabeth and the other multitude of 4 stars/5 stars are getting animation updates before the likes of Eric Bloodaxe, Phantom of the Opera, etc. and the other less desirable animation updates? Their priority is obviously geared towards the Golds, mostly because they tend to be more popular than the Bronzes and Silvers in both terms of how many people use them and how many people like them (notably the only Silvers that got animation updates are Cu Chulainn, Medusa and Medea who are all relatively if not very popular in their own right barring arguably Medea). |
| Slightly unrelated, but I find it funny that they promised they'd roll out all the animation updates by the end of this year and we're already on October with their backlog of Servants they need to update being as massive as ever. Real talk, I never really expected them to update everyone by the end of the year since it supposedly (from what I hear) takes a relatively long time to create new sprites and animations, but my issue is that DW's been observably lazier than ever. FGO's been progressing at a slower rate than last year and last year was supposed to be the ''slow year'' according to them since they said they were taking it easier because of all the effort they put into first year and would pick up the slack again come third year, but here we are. Don't get me wrong. I wouldn't really want something GBF or AzurLane-styled where I'm assaulted with event after event and would rather they take their time to create quality events, but FGO JP has like the complete opposite problem of going too fast. We have these ridiculous dead monthly periods that offer nothing new and just assault you with a string of rerun events that I'm sure everyone and their mother is sick of sitting through when they're released one after another like this. Gilfest brought practically nothing new for me because that event's entire purpose was to just cover time slots so they don't have to release anything actually new. I think the biggest issue with DW and FGO as a whole right now how sloppy and lazy their release schedule has become. |
| That's not a real update. They modified her animations slightly, but they're still practically the same exact thing as her initial ones and her sprite is still drawn in the outdated, sloppier style of FGO's early days. |

I just mean that choosing the next Servants to improve won't be as clear and cut as 'Oh yeah, this one is a gold/popular Servant and this other one isn't, so we'll improve the former first' as we've had cases where the reverse is true. Also it's important to note that on average we get far more golds than silvers, so naturally golds would need animation updates more often - not necessarily because they're gold and popular but because there're just more of them. |

Finally finished assembling my Eli team (not pictured: 7/7/7 Carmilla) As a person who was unable to roll any Alteregos from the gacha, I'm so glad we got 2 for free. Not to mention that they're Buster smash Servants w/ awesome NPs. Now that I have Mecha Eli, I can have nice easy stress-free runs of the gold mat node w/o worrying about Pent dying. Also I love the way Wada drew the FAs of the Elis. It's very aesthetically pleasing on my Support:  |
