Im on episode 18 of this anime, and in my opinion it's really good. So why do people hate it so much??? I mean yeah, too much fanservice, and some plot holes, but other than that it's honestly really good. What's the problem???

Idk about the anime but the manga was full of asspulls and the whole nakama power bullshit got really annoying. The only reason I would read the manga is because boobs. Story had potential in the beginning but it became garbage as the series progressed.

I have heard the anime is better though.

Come on guy, there's a 175 episodes of this specific entry, you're barely a tenth of the way through, and yet you're questioning the fandom's reception?

At least get halfway through before making this thread.

Because:

-People who aren't into battle shounen still end up watching it because it's popular, but because it's not their genre, they're not going to like it.
-Veteran battle shounen watchers claiming it's the same as everything else, when that means nothing to someone new to the genre or for someone who isn't easily bothered by the common tropes.
-Because people somehow got it into their heads that fighting for your friends/family is a bad concept (therefore, it must be objectively bad), when they fail to realise many people do like it; it's just not for them.
Because people need something to hate on in order to make themselves look cool and hip (or at least, that's what they hope for). Many popular shows get bashed for being the worst thing ever, when at worst, they might just be average pieces of entertainment that happen to appeal to a broad audience.
-Because tribalism. I like Naruto/Bleach/One Piece/HunterxHunter, and every other show that's even remotely the same is trash by default and nothing more but a rip-off of whatever I happen to like.

You see, when you make the final fights an asspull and nakama power to a point it becomes redundant, not to speak the characters are basically like slaves in the guild who has equal lines to Giorno from Jojo, and that the most hype villain in the series get one shotted by a bullshit power dubbed "Flame of Emotion" which is one of the worst power name I could ever think of, you shouldn't be surprised.

Well said!

As for me,
- I love battle shounen
- I love nakama power (though FT doing it wrong mostly)
- I love magic
- I'm already too attached to the characters now that I'll stick to this series no matter how bad it's getting

In short, it's not underrated. I recognized the flaws and understand where the haters came from.
Still, it's my favorite anime and I gave it a 10.

Well I personally hate it for reasons including but not limited to:

Style over substance, irrational things happen because they look cool while development of characters or plot do not matter.

The fights, may look cool but falls under the category of " over 9000 kicks and punches"

The romance is fucking laughable

It's nothing inherently wrong with fighting for your friends, but the fact that you get a fucking ssj power up because of that is ridiculous. The fact that the heroes win simpley because they're morally right is just plain bad imo.

It's written in a way that the plot can continue forever, then again you can say that about most shonen. However, FT is predictable and you'll soon find out that the author will just simply reuse old arcs.

As someone has already stated, the author just fucking lost it, i realized that when i finished the edolas arc.

The characters are either really annoying or extremely underdeveloped, sometimes both. I found myself rooting for the bad guys most of the times. The only character i enjoyed watching was plue.

Natsu is a waste of skin ( or 2D animation in this case) he says the most stupidest shit ever with a stragiht face " If you're a guild, take care of your friends" like just shut the fuck up and leave, dude. He said that after defeating a dude that's supposed to be stronger than him. How did he win you ask ? Why, the power of Nakama of course. I swear the power of Nakama is Natsu's fucking heroin, he needs that shit everytime he fights someone. Which of course makes the fights involving him really lame.

-Watching an anime just becaue its popular isn't a good idea.
-Those veteran watchers are right about they said.
-Defeating someone who is way stronger than you through friendship speeches is totally logical (sarcasm). Other shounens use the friendship is power bs, but not as much as fairy tail.
-I hate FT because they take the power of friendship too far and is overall repetitive and boring. Also, the excessive fanservice makes it worse.
-I like battle shounen, and I think its crap
Fairy Tail is bascially how you not write a battle shounen. Also, every other battle shounen >>>>>> FT.

1)fights are very simple almost no strategy or skill involved
2)friendship power is overused to the 100th degree this makes no fight serious because you know somebody will have a friend flashback and rape op villain in one shot.
3)World building is very basic compared to other big shonnen
4)Boringships
5)Zero character development
6)Magic system isnt complicated enough needs more rules

Its trash in every way (hate nakama power, the characters are either bland or annoying, the story is nonsense, its too cheesy etc.), the only reason I watched it is because of the PLOT (the mangaka needs to just stop pretending that he can write and focus on that).

I don't think he did, he basically rehashed the same shit again and again and always relied on lazy & cheap writing. I have never seen a Shounen abuse nakama power this much.

Not sure if I can even blame him, FT still managed to be popular as hell for some reason and he didn't even have to try in terms of story and characters.

It is so overrated. I can't believe it is rated over 8

Even many echii show that I have seen have better plot/fights that this. Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry (echii aniem) for example has way better and serious fights than anything from FT

A lot of Fairy Tail haters actually were people who used to tolerate or even liked it it but got annoyed with the excessive amount of lazy nakama powerups, plot holes, bad characterization and underwhelming fights ever since the (crappy) timeskip.

But keep making these lame strawmans if it makes you feel any better.

I watch it atm and i enjoyed it at the beginning, but more and more, its getting boring. The Magic Games arc was the thing that was still good, now i am at another filler arc and got some spoiler. Yeah, the nakama thing is too much here, can endure it, and i love the music and the seiyuus for some characters (like Natsu and Jellal). But i got some spoiler or better, i was told the tartarus arc is good, the rest of the story is bad. And i asked which couples are at the end official. Seriously?! Yes, i hate Juvia... She is a good girl, but that mangaka... Srsly, he could have made so many things better (at least, give her a cute, shy and NOT so weird and clingly character and stop killing characters here and there and start to kill the main dish to make it more interesting...) and yeah, i dream too much, that the last season will be a bit changed to pls some fans. I dont care about the manga, so many stories are different of each other.

I'm seriously in the same situation as you
I'm on episode 123 and I'm already
Too attached to the characters and the setting to hate it or let it go. Plus the cliches don't even bother me now ..on the contrary I enjoy them .... Well I guess that's what makes fairy tail a mainstream anime . I too know the flaws and weak points of the series but still i think there's something about these Contemporary battle shounen anime that makes you attached to them like hell...

Fairy tail Banzai..

P.S

its popular its going to get hate like every poplar show dose

Fairy Tail dose have its flaws like
Random power ups
long friendship speeches
Natsu being one of the worst main character and a bad character in general also Lucy
Erza is just bullshit

personally i thought it was ok it was the first anime i watched so Fairy Tail will always have some what of a sentimental value to me

oh and 90% of why i watch Fairy Tail is because if Gray Fullbuster i love his charater and he is one of my all time favorites

but people have their own opinions on it some people like it some dont i wouldnt say its under rated it just gets a lot of hate

Fairy Tail underrated??? Come on dude, it’s one of the most overrated anime in history. And if you’re just on episode 18, you don’t really have the right to judge really....
For me, I find the story extremely boring, most of the character annoy me especially the main team, which just makes it worse, the fan service is excessive and stupid, and the nakama powerup is pure bs to the point that ( SPOILER ) Erza is not only able to fight but also get even progressively stronger after losing all of her senses, and the 2 most powerful villains almost get oneshotted, the second 2 most powerful ones commit suicide for stupid reasons.

No...Fairy Tail is not uderrated, how can be?
Many people hate FT because there are too many fanservices and plot holes but don't care about that...I admit the last arc of the manga especially battle with Zeref and Acnologia kinda letdown to me as FT fan, that is one reason people start to hate FT so much because Zeref and Acnologia known as final villains and overpowered characters but Natsu ended them with one punch lol. Other than plot holes, fanservices, and last battle of last arc, FT is very good in many ways...the heartwarming guild with nakama power, sad/emotional moments, the passionate and epic battles, best ost/op/ed.
Also, don't blame FT 'cause the nakama power is so out of way well it's FT things and that's why I love FT and this anime made me love anime more...

There are several reasons why people hate it, but like it’s the only shounen popular anime where women are also badass and there’s fanservice for them too. I like Fairy Tail simply because I’m legit in love with Erza and I want to become just like her, and like there’s still Mirajane who’s also legit EPIC, not to forget Juvia, Cana or Lucy, who’s become pretty decent from an annoying girl who was just present for fanservice. ALSO I LOVE LAXUS AND JELLAL OK THEYRE SO POWERFUL. Also I’m going as Erza this Halloween.
