I was thinking about my favourites and what I give a 10 and came to the conclusion that personal investment and an emotional connection are key when it comes to communicating why you like something so much and why you think it's "perfect".

With all that said the question is in the title, are there any anime that changed your life? as in, changed your philosophy entirely, made you appreciate things more, made you realise other things you never have or simply is something you can project yourself into easily and relate to on every level.

The more detail the better, get as personal as you want.

Personally I'd say that anything I give a 10 has this quality at least in some way and had I not interpreted them that way I wouldn't appreciate those anime for the pieces of art that they are entirely. For example: Hyouge Mono made me appreciate art and my relationship with it more, as well as the nature of all art itself.

im sure many anime changed my life in more or less subtle ways but its hard to pinpoint exactly what

anyway i found myself quoting this from zetsubou sensei on several occasions- "if i have the right to know, i also have the right to not know"

Golden Boy was the first time fiction or drawings gave me a boner when I was 11 or 12 and now I exclusively fap to doujins so it led me down this life of degeneracy and I'm eternally thankful for it!
I probably regret this post by now.

Neon Genesis Evangelion. Those last two episodes were a total mindfuck. It changed the way that I look at depression and how I deal with other people.

Your Lie In April Made me get into healing my childhood wounds, changed the way I act as an artist and got me back into music.

Serial Experiments Lain crushed a lot of lies that society has told me and opened my eyes to how we communicate and how we have been sucked into this digital age.

No anime has changed my life, but a cartoon did. Avatar the last airbender. I was only 12 when I watched it the first time. I fell in love with the villain, Azula. She then became my waifu and I became obsessive and bla bla...

Relate to that, Death Note is the reason why I fap today cause of the first episode which I watched several years ago never continued cause I was scared, I was a young boy, so my first even boner was the girl who got harassed by the bikers/scooters who got hit by a truck.

The first that comes to mind is One Piece, it just has left such an impact on me. It taught me about the value of friends and family, pursuing your dreams, fighting for what you believe in etc basically your typical shonen messages but yeah it means much to me haha
If not talking about certain anime but anime overall then few thing that anime has motivated me to do:
Learn Japanese and not in a weeb way, but Im genuinely trying o learn the language. I think that's really cool
Got me interested in drawing and storytelling.
And honestly much more but I'll cut it short.
In conclusion anime has made me into the person I am, it might sound cringy but it's something that I can't deny.

For me it was one piece and Oregairu. One piece changed my view on friendship and dreams. Oregairu has changed me completely, I started viewing thing from a different perspective as a whole and changed me completely. One piece is my favorite anime and manga with oregairu being 3rd favorite anime and top fav light novel. And for me oregairu was the most relatable anime ever.

For me it was Rurouni Kenshin, as it was the first anime I was a fan of. Aside from getting me into anime, it also made me realize a certain mistake I was making irl. It has less to do with the actual quality of the show though and more with it just happening to coincide with my circumstances by chance.

Mine should be Clannad and School Rumble if I must say.
The feelings the anime gave me was so strong that I had to change myself for the better. Well you know the feeling after finishing a good anime, I ultize it. School Rumble made me believe that I'm a juvenile delinquent myself lol cause I was never a guy who could never express himself in public. I tried talking with people more and enjoy my youth as much as possible just like other MC's in every school romance comedy etc etc genre anime.

Tonari no kaibutsu-kun made me do well in school. The fact that the MC puts her grades as her priority and ignores other people's triviality and presence changed me. The ost really slaps me hard in the face. the amount of nostalgia and etc forces me to strive for the better and not to give up.

Literally all anime I watched changed me for the better. Even hentai(the classic ones)Can Can bunny, Leatherman, class reunion etc etc( Ν‘° ΝœΚ– Ν‘°) . Idk man that's just me.

Your Lie In April got my motivation back to playing music and Oushitsu Kyoushi Heine gave me motivation to keep studying and to aim for better grades. I'm absolutely glad I found these two animes. If I didn't find them, I would of been a much more lazier and pessimistic person than who I am now.

Cardcaptor Sakura, the first ever anime I've watched completely when I was a child, then from then on, I started to appreciate anime. It's life-changing because my life now is like 70% anime then 30% reality. Anime is now part of my system.

Life changing anime, you say?

I think I’ll have to go with Assasination Classroom or Azumanga Daioh.
Mainly for the Internet jokes.

Hetalia made me realize I want to major in history, but I don't think it's that good.

Kuroshitsuji made me fall in love with anime.
Welcome to the NHK taught me that being dramatic isn't worth it.
FMA:B (specifically Kimblee) taught me to live and let live.
Yuri!!! on Ice forced me to admit I'm a fujoshi.
Devilman Crybaby made me more nihilistic.

I'm sure there's more, but that's what I can think of.

now i will tell you what ive done for you
fifty thousand tears ive cried
maybe ill wake up for once
screaming deceiving and bleeding for you
and you still wont hear me going under
dont want your hand this time ill save myself
just when id thought id reached the bottom
im dying again

Nichijou basically got me back into anime, as I discovered there was more than generic action shonen, overly dramatic shoujo, or supernatural ecchi harem.

And thus Slice of life became my favorite genre.

I've carved a picture into my skin.
I showed everyone I'll never sin.

Just 'cause I bleed like you, I'm not a man.

Natsume Yuujinchou 6 seasons changed my life. It makes me realize that being alone is hurting sometimes

Inuyashiki teach me to respect your parents, bcs you might not know that they were probably robot and could save the world.

Although I’d like to say that Card Captor Sakura was what got me into anime and therefore gradually changed my lifestyle to appreciate more anime that all slowly shaped my principles even in a minuscule scale, but the anime that truly made the turning point in my life was Triangle Blue.

Not only did it open me to a whole new perspective, but I was also able to relate to both the protagonist and antagonist fully, and made me cherish love and gave me a whole new meaning to it. I feel that it had also made me more smarter and gave me insight into what a relationship could become. Although short lived, it had also improved my relationship with my lover at the time as we explored new possibilities into our relationship. Triangle Blue had changed my life for the better, and when I become a father or a teacher, I would like to show this anime to my children so they too can also learn a whole new perspective on love.

Inazuma Eleven Chrono Stone made me a good person. I was a selfish brat before.

I was an idiot before watching Steins;Gate, after watching it I started to think more everything I said and did.

Then Madoka Magica changed my views on morals and how to deal with people. Rebellion also teached me how even by trying to be selfless you can hurt someone.

Later Clannad teached me on forgiving people I love and to appreciate them more.

Kill la Kill and Gurren Lagann made me don't give up on anything since when I try to do so I remember Simon and Ryuuko's development and I finally continue even if it's hard.

K-On! and Danganronpa had a very similar impact on me. Since I watched them, I just no longer care about what others say to me in a wrong way and I'm more optimist than I ever was. I don't blame my friends for my problems anymore and I take responsability. Both made me learn to be more empathetic and hardworker, and that's what I'm trying to be now.

Hahaha hahaha .... I'm really sorry, I-I, just forgive me. I don't think it's happening anytime soon.

I second this.

Coincidently it almost changed my life in a negative way as well. Once I saw a few episodes I was determined to get it all, so I setup a torrent at school. I brought down the entire school network and cost them some significant costs in bandwidth overages. Luckily I managed to not get expelled.

Ah, to be young and irresponsible. Now I’m watching Clear Card with my paid CR subscription. :D

I'd say Clannad.

I wouldn't say that any anime has really changed my life in any way, but Clannad has definitely made me realize that anime can be very powerful in manipulating your emotions. I cried so hard during Clannad that I'm not sue I've ever cried like that before.

that was one sacrifice for cardcaptor then, glad you're not expelled. i'm watching clear card as well, and sakura and syaoran were still super adorable.

Naruto made me realize that what I watch is just a piece of fictional works. It doesn't resonate with normal people. I was hurt. I fought back only to realize that I can't look back and continue where I left off.

Fruits Basket bought me into anime and it taught me just how important family and friends are and that's okay to be yourself. It made me appreciate the things I have now way more than before.

Pandora hearts is another important series to me. The story and characters helped me through my depression a lot while I read the manga. Characters felt very real to me and the way they overcame their insecurities and fears was very inspiring.
