Well at the very first stage of watching anime I mainly like action genre, mixed with fiction. And now I like psychological genre the most.

My tastes were very narrow back then. I also liked almost anything I watched.

Now, I watch a lot of stuff, and lots of it is shit.

A lot of is shit, but I never found masterpieces back then. Back when I sort of enjoyed everything, nothing really grabbed me.

I'm definitely more interested in retro and experimental anime now than I was when I first started.

That's a good point too.
I think that in order to appreciate good anime you need to watch bad anime too.

hmmmm when i first started i started with the cliche naruto, doraemon, bakugan (is that anime? XD) etc...
then a few years later in 2013 i was watching all sorts of animes, especially horror and action animes like another, mirrai nikki and also that year i started becoming a man of culture from animes such as outbreak company, strike the blood trinity seven and Seirei Tsukai no Blade Dance and many others. SO far this year ive been embracing my love for ecchi harems with animes such as busou shoujo machiavellianism, eromanga sensei, Taimadou Gakuen 35 Shiken Shoutai, Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches and many more. well but ive been watching school ecchi harems from time to time in 2014 to 2016 as well but not as much as this year if i can remember (?) ive also constantly been watching school comedies/rom coms throughout the years but not as much now (koi no uso is one, struggling to watch any more of it tbh lel)

The only significant change is that for a while I was totally adverse to watching things that weren't harem, ecchi, a mix of both, or CGDCT, but then ultimately got over that hurdle and began to expand my horizons a bit here and there, so I'd say I'm much less closed off to new frontiers than I was for the first year or so.

A lot of that was mostly getting over the idea of associating a show too heavily with it's fanbase when deciding whether or not I should even give it the time of day, though. I did that mostly just out of spite because I found the same things to be just as obnoxious back then as I did now, 'cept because I interlocked that too heavily with what I'd let myself watch, so I ended up forgoing a lot of things I ended up really liking for way too long and let it cloud my own experience with whatever product in question too heavily, which was silly and more than a little petty of me.

Also I used to be only about those flat chests (my username is still a reference to them, even) but now I'm somebody who appreciates all breast sizes :V

I think taking anime seriously (or any art) is what opens the gate for great experiences. You're more open to them, you're more eager to seek them.

I used to drink harems.

In my early days, I could read shoujo, but after a few of them I swore myself off them forever. Yes. I discriminate. And I will potentially miss out on excellent manga/anime because of that.

But even till today I'm still a sucker for romance.

The classic childhood anime aside, from the start I just picked anime which summaries I found interesting. So I was going from Bleach, to Toradora, to Another, to Gosick, to Steins;Gate etc.

As the years went by that didn't change. There are genres that I'm not fond of, but in general I'm open to many different shows.

As many people here, i was fascinated with the shounen genre. I now look more about supernatural, horror and sci-fi. Also i'm watching drama but many are overdramatic, boring and have terrible writing. I still like shounen but only with good execution. I always hated yuri/ecchi/hentai/traps. I'm neutral about yaoi.

When I started watching anime I was pretty much only watching shounen shows. By now I watched pretty much every genre and decided that sports and mecha is not for me. Never thought I'd enjoy watching ecchi and SoL but here I am ^^

My taste matured pretty well considering the fact that in the past I used to appreciate a series solely based on the enjoyment derived and I wasn't able to analyze more in depth, to get over the appearances so I was missing out on the actual quality

I still like my 2 main genres (action, comedy) as I did when I was teenager. I think pretty much everything I like now, I would've liked back then, but not sure about the other way around. I guess I've just become more picky, and am less easily impressed. Back then, I would've liked anything that included at least a fair bit of comedy or action, but nowadays I'm somewhat more critical about the things I watch. So I'd say my taste is pretty similar as it was when I was younger, but more refined.

When I started out I watched a lot of shounens (Naruto, Bleach, InuYasha). From there I moved into more fujobait territory (KuroShitsuji, Karneval, sports anime, bl). Now I mostly watch older stuff.

From Harem Ecchi+Overpowered male lead anime like Hundred, Absolute Duo, undefeated bahamut chronicle, dragonar academy and seiken sukai no world break to comedy and now mostly romance, drama, comfy anime like yuru camp and non non biyori and also mystery anime like Monogatari and kubikiri cycle.

And now Im trying to avoid harem ecchi anime. Cant stand these animes anymore
Seeing back right now my taste really has changed a lot or maybe Ive grown...

Ive also come to like anime with good and beautiful atmosphere like Made In Abyss, Houseki no Kuni and yuru camp

About taste I don't think it's changed. I still dislike triangle drama or harem, just like how I disliked them in the past. And I still like battle shounen and mecha, just like how I liked them in the past. The only thing's changed is I watch more anime of many genres that never been showed on my local tv channels thanks to the internet.

I started watching anime when I was 7, but I did watch dragon ball series and Pokemon before that. At first I hated sports and romance anime, I would only watch action/fantasy/adventure and I would hate on popular shounens like One piece, Naruto, Fairy tail. Now I basically watch any anime, I like all genres excluding Hentai.

When I started watching anime, I was a huge fanboy of Shonen anime, especially Shonen Jump. Now as I watched more anime off of different source materials such as light novels, seinen manga, visual novels, Shonen Jump grew to being my most hated source material for anime and I lost a lot of interest for shonen anime in general. An example being that if I were to rate Dragon Ball Z back then, I would have given it a 10. Now, it's a 1, due to the fact that I am more knowledgeable about anime and have seen better anime off of better source materials like Berserk (even 2016 and 2017 because while bad, they're still better), The Irregular at Magic High School, Chivalry of a Failed Knight, Inuyashiki, Taboo Tattoo, Grisaia, Fate series, Bungou Stray Dogs, Asterisk War, and many more.

When I first watch anime:
- Only watched Naruto and Digimon as a child growing up
- A fan of romance
- Was planning to watch a few at first
- Only watch or know a few and mainstream ones

Now:
- Want to watch more anime and almost watch everything
- An even BIGGER fan of romance
- I watch both mainstream and underrated ones
- I now know what genres that I like and have specific tastes when it comes to anime

So technically, my tastes are somewhat different but also the same thing since I'm still into romance today but now upgraded.

Help, I'm hooked into the Fate series (not all) and am obsessed with Shirou x Saber!
Also, forever hoping for a ufotable remake of the Fate route!

I absorbed pretty much anything I could get my hands on in my first 2 years of watching anime, even the lewdest ecchi shows which I didn't even understand and I didn't even know it was supposed to be arousing kek. Then it kinda went on to more and more shounen and action anime and finally after a few years I went full elitist and only saw "mature" anime for mature people such as myself (was 16 at the time). And now its kind of a mix I like to watch simply stuff that seems interesting although I try to avoid ecchi, harem, romance and slice of life for the most part if its not coupled with a tag like drama or whatnot.

Well, this, with more nuances. It's just that I left anime for a while and had soooo many good shows to watch when I came back, it was easy to pick good stuff. Now that I went through the most obvious picks, I'm left with some stuff I know I'll like (Ghibli movies, stuff Imaishi and Yuasa make, lots of 80's/90's stuff) that I'm watching at a slow pace to avoid running out too fast.

But globally, my taste didn't change much. I'm able to spot shit animation and tell why I like something, and I don't watch shows the way I used to do, but what I like globally stays the same.

I started when I was a kid and I watched Inuyasha, Dragonball, Bayblade, Yugioh etc, then I quit anime for a long time and started watching again when I was 19 or something like that. I was watching only dark 'deep' stuff - or at least I thought it was. Now after a few years, I watch almost anything that doesn't suck too much - including comedy, romance, slice of life etc. I also learned to appreciate different genres and art styles. I think everyone is very picky in the beginning but later that changes.

Not that much, really. It did change slightly, but maybe it's more of a knowledge about the medium and what it does well.

A lot of anime I loved back when I was still new to the medium, I still love a lot. Most of my favourites have been there since 2014 and 2015, so the things I love the most remained roughly the same.

While I have always liked action and the crazy stuff the most, I used to actively seek out romance and slice of life sometimes, but after getting disappointed again and again, I just realized romance in anime is mostly trash, or at the very least unsatisfying and unfinished, and slice of life bores me more often than not. I will still watch these from time to time, but it's more out of boredom, and rarely.

I have also almost completely given up on manga, I don't like the medium, think it inferior to anime, and in general it doesn't give me half the fun anime does. I no longer care about source expect with some rare cases. Almost every time the 'lol go read manga it's better' is bullshit at best.

I don't think my opinion of any single show changed in a significant way.

It has changed, slowly but surely.

First I watched Pokemon, when I was a child.
Later in my teens I watched Dragonball Z, I was a huge, huge fan for many years.
My true passion for anime started late 2013, at that time I started with Sora no Otoshimono and some other Ecchi anime.
Nowadays I don't really like ecchi that much, I rather watch romance, slice of life and fantasy. I have just noticed that I have started to shift from romance to action and supernatural.

So my preferences have definitely changed.

A whole fucking lot.
I think it's logical to gain a more refined taste along with more experience.
example: Attack on Titan won't be the best anime in the world after you've watched half a dozen genuinely good anime that don't just count on filling you with andrenaline.
"That is why I prefer using you two pistols. There is symmetry to wielding you two, right?
(Getting aggravated) But when you two are in human form, your hairstyles and your heights are completely different...
(Grabs their breasts) Even your cup sizes are completely different!"

Not much has changed, I guess I have just developed a lot as an anime fan and I for sure know what I like in an anime and what I dont like

I also started of with a lot of romance shoujo anime, I still like the genre but maybe not as into it now as I was back then

In the beginning I was also super picky, now I dont care about genre at all. I remember I thought anything that was ecchi was bad, and that I was bad for watching it but lol, I dont care anymore

My one is so different Its so ridiculous. I use to like main stream shounen and classic hero. I use to like Naruto,Dragon ball z and mainstream shounen types of anime.

Now I like Dark shounen and Seinen animes such as Shigenki no kyojin,Kuroshitsuji and psycho pass. I also not fond of classic heroes anymore,I hate Naruto series now. I prefer Anti heroes and villians over classic heroes In general. I do like some Mainstream shounen types I dislike most of them currently.

When I was bored I would watch some weird anime (or what I defined as weird) I cant remember them tho, lol...
