According to the list on the first page, I'd be agenderfluid. In other words, if I start thinking about it, I get stressed out and uncomfortable.

You're not allowed to feel that way...it's problematic.

No, transgender wouldn't exist if removal of the concept of gender separate from sex also includes removal of gender roles. You can't be trans gender if there is no gender to transcend although I suppose the term transsexual would be valid still. There would still be people with a dysphoria though probably under a different name but I think that would either reduce it's occurrence or make it easier on them because there would be no standard of femininity or masculinity. Also no, the feeling would still be describable. A person can still say they would rather have other body parts or that they feel a lack of connection to their body parts or whatever.

Like I said it would still exist it just wouldn't have the same name. Also not all transgender people are transsexuals. As you said their would still be dysphoria.
There would still be people that want to change their sexual organs and/or alter their secondary sexual characteristics. I don't think it would reduce the occurrence
in fact I think it would go up at least a little bit. Societal pressure stops alot of people from coming out. Anyways my point is that transgenderism or gender dysphoria would still exist. You can get rid of the word or at least you can try, but you can't stop people from feeling like their body doesn't match who they are.

Depends on your definition of transgender.

They did fine before such surgery existed and before the name for such a condition existed if not even better because they did better at accepting how their body is and they had no false hopes that surgery would solve everything and they had no health drawbacks the surgeries and cross hormones cause.

Without such roles there would be no clear distinction of what it means to be one gender or another thus removing some of the sense of a need to attempt at prove anything to ones self or others about how they feel.

If people stopped worrying about dividing people with labels for themselves they would stop giving a shit about differences.

I just wanted to also throw in my two cents on the whole dysphoria discussion. Nope, just removing the word won't prevent people from feelings dysphoric. Even before I knew what the word meant, I felt that something was wrong and that my body didn't really match my mind if you know what I mean. Actually finding out there was a word for it actually felt kind of good, because now I could attribute these feeling to something, which has made it a lot easier for me to try and get some help for it. Which is why I am going to see a doctor next month to get a referral to a gender therapist and see where we move on from there.

But if I didn't know what dysphoria was, it would have made it a lot harder to ask for the right kind of help.

I never said it would remove it entirely, just that it gets rid of pressures of conformity.

Actually even though its a newer term gender dsyphoria has been around for a long time. I mean obviously I don't have proof considering those words didn't exist back then. However crossdressing has been around for a very long time. Now obviously not all crossdressers are transgender. However a small percentage do identify as different gender then their biological sex. So I think its very likely that some of our ancestors experienced gender dsyphoria. Also only a very small percentage of people that transition regret it. Getting rid of gender & gender roles might eliminate that but I don't thing it will make as big of an impact as you think it will.

Also not all trans people transition. Some of those that do only undergo a few changes. A very small percentage actually get a sex change.

It existed but it showed itself differently. It's not what it is today. The same goes for any mental illness too. Strangely the existence of psychology actually changes how people behave and how they are treated because it changes the culture to view these people as different or even broken.

I've not seen good papers saying they don't regret it or how it doess or does not improve things. The studies I've seen that follow people the majority don't even reply back after surgery to update on how things are.

I know that already.

Thats true I grew up in areas that were very lets say conservative in thought and im not even talking religious but when I was in school "gay" was still a huge insult it wasn't till I left for college did I discover a world where suddenly all these things were ok and where I came from was not how the whole world was.

First thing my tutor asked was if I had a girlfriend or a boyfriend because I wasn't very talkative and I scoffed like I would in school to avoid a beating and everyone was like "Why its not weird or wrong" It was so alien to me I was in a different world all the defenses I built up over the years were suddenly meaningless. It took my months to adjust to a more progressive world mindset. Parents around didn't even talk about other things like homosexuality or trans. I didn't even know trans was a thing till I was in my late teens when I left for college before then I was just told that people who try to pass as opposite sex were drag acts and thats it. That anyone different must be a deviant or a freak.

Im still kind of pissed, breaking out of that conditioning and figure everything out in a vacuum was not an easy process and now im older and pissed off cause I could have faced the reality a lot sooner as a teenager.

If you asked me if I felt masculine or feminine id say either both or neither or somewhere between because I have different qualities to me and the concept of masculine and feminine has no objective meaning. I think gender is a useless concept that only confuses people more. A persons chromosomal, reproductive, and external appearance as well as personal ideal is all that is needed to understand someone.

The older you get the more question of any SOs in your life tend to pop up. I got where even members of my own family question me constantly in this area ... My parents asked me if I was gay once because I had one friend who was bisexual and they were a childhood friend of mine who eventually came out to me the last time they came over to my house ... Unfortunately after they came out to me, they came out to my parents which I didn't think was necessary and kinda set them up for a problem because they KNEW how religious my parents were. A most terrible way to fall out with a friend indeed. My parents ripped her to shreds on it.

What I've said and always said is that gender roles and biological gender differ, yet coincide, but this "nonbinary" hooey is not a gender. Rather, in most cases, it's a way of young teens and twentysomes to attention seek and feel validated. But it's false validation.

I don't think "singular they" is truly validated either, so I don't use it in the majority of contexts, except as a vague third person referrer. Using it to refer to someone personally inclines me to feel I'm dehumanizing.

They're made up so that's not hard. I also could fit
Adamasgender- A gender which refuses to be categorized.
Androgyne– Feeling in between, or a combination of, man and woman (or boy and girl).
Anesigender– Physically feeling like a certain gender but feeling more comfortable identifying as another.
Apagender– A feeling of apathy toward one’s gender that causes one to have no desire to look further into it. Also known as lethargender, inersgender and anvisgender.
Apogender– A subset of agender in which you feel not only genderless, but entirely removed from the concept of gender.
Biogender– A gender that is connected to nature in some way.
Cassgender– Feeling as if the very concept of gender is unimportant to you.
Cogitogender– A gender that only exists when you think about it, is quiet until called to attention, or is characterized as feeling genderless until a gender is consciously chosen.
Deaboy– for masculine-identified or partially masculine-identified people that still feel a connection to feminine energy due to their spirituality. Intended for pagans but is a possibility amongst anyone who practices goddess worship or feminine energy worship of any kind.
Egogender– A gender which can only be described as the individual. It is so personal to you that no other word can describe it but “you”. One may also use (name)gender with their name inserted synonymously.
Espigender– A gender which is related to being a spirit or exists on higher or extradimensional planes.
Foggender– A gender which is close to a certain gender, but cannot be directly pinpointed due to brainfog (a lack of concentration or wakefulness associated with ADHD, fibromyalgia, depression, etc.)
Genderstrange– When you can’t pinpoint one word for your gender, but multiple terms almost fit.
Technogender– Only comfortable with one’s gender when using technology/online, usually because of social anxiety (specialized for people with anxiety disorders).

Seeing as gender is a matter ofan self-identification then it makes sense people will either not be sure about identifying strictly as or not even want to identify as 'male' or 'female'. So I think there are three sensible options.

The first is to include 'agender', lack of gender, and 'non binary', anything remaining. No need to create a gender for each personality trait, but no need to deny that some outliers can't or don't want to choose.

If someone is adamant that there are only two genders, and still separating gender from sex, it's kind of absurd. They would have to prove there was a male/ female switch in the brain which no damage or developmental problem could upset, because gender is currently just an abstract concept.

So really they should be arguing against gender altogether. That's the second option. My preferred implementation of that would probably be different from theirs though. To keep sex of course, but treat sex more clinically, then just leave people alone.

But what do 'male' and 'female' even mean when it comes to gender? It would be easiest if the two primary genders were 'masculine identifying' and 'feminine identifying', but that's actually not in. There are feminine people calling themselves men and masculine people calling themselves women. 'Male' and 'female' as genders are ways of self-identification but they actually mean even less than many of the obscure, new genders.*

So the final option is to further separate gender from sex by not centring gender around 'male' and 'female'. There are many ways to do this. Again, the simplest thing would be using 'masculine-leaning', 'feminine-leaning', and at least one for outliers, but if those words are unwanted or not defined well enough then there are many other possibilities here.

(*Of course the meaning of male and female can be obscured even in the context of sex, with XXY, YYY, XYY, variation in sex cells, Y chromosome DNA being inside an X chromosome, androgen resistance, other chemical abnormalities, birth deformities, etc., which altogether affect a great number of people, but sex is not the topic.)

To say its all made up is to invalidate all the feelings you just posted a little while ago. If you don't identify with your birth sex but not enough to "transition" you're not alone. The only thing I know on that list is androgyne which is pretty much what I am.

To say its all made up is to invalidate all the feelings you just posted a little while ago. If you don't identify with your birth sex but not enough to "transition" you're not alone. The only thing I know on that list is androgyne which is pretty much what I am.

Buddy, that tumblrgender stuff doesn't fly here
Please tell me you don't take that thousandgender crap seriously, even if claiming to identify with the thirdgender I don't even believe exists in the first place

You need to have gender dysphoria to be transgendered in the first place, not just "I feel less female or male today". That's gender roles. Gender roles are a social construct, but biological gender unless you have dysphoria, is not.

No it doesn't. You don't get it I guess. Gender identities and gender roles are nothing but phantasms. The reality is there is no borders.

I once ran a simple social experiment where I posted online a long list of traits about my looks and how I dress and behaviour and interests and feelings and not a single person was able to give the same answer of what I was. Which is what I expected. They did this despite most of the people answering being LGBT which proves how subjective gender and sexuality is.

Heh. That was actually a good one.

I am fortunate enough to not have celiacs or a wheat allergy, I'm just really sensitive to gluten. I do have a pill that can help me have an easier time digesting it, but I'm not supposed to use it too often. I usually have one special gluten meal per month, like pasta, pancakes, or pizza.

I also noticed I have an easier time digesting whole wheat than I do white flour. White flour destroys my stomach. :|

I don't use tumblr so I don't know all the "thousand genders" that you speak of. The only ones I know of are genderqueer, non-binary, and agender, and bigender. I've actually seen these pop up on doctor forms for first time visit physical check ups and urgent care places so they must be legit.

As someone who grew up believing that your sex and your gender were the same thing, I can say it has been a very interesting time for me in the past couple of years to learn that there is a difference. My whole life I always felt something was off about me in my mind, and I never felt comfortable identifying with either of the genders I knew. Obviously I know my sex is female, but I never understood what it meant to "feel" feminine, or what a male would say it feels like to be masculine.

I'm pretty down with all the varied gender identities because now I feel at ease being able to label myself as agender. Being reminded of my sex sucks though, and if science ever allows it I would love to permanently stop my crimson tide from crashing in once every month and all the pain that comes along with it.

Yikes, agender folks have it rough in that respect. I know a person who is agender and they've had work done to "make their body agender". Unfortunately realistically there are limitations to this without the breaking down of the entire body so as a result they still do experience dysphoria I think.

There are only two genders. Just because you feel your personality doesn't match with one of the two, and want to pretend you're an alien or something, does not invalidate the existence of the programming in our biological make up.

Gender pertains to social characteristics rather than genitalia or chromosomes, by modern definition. If you're going to insist otherwise then you'd be better off insisting that we don't use gender at all, that the concept doesn't add anything valuable to anyone's life, and focus on 'sex'. Sex does not pertain to anything psychological, by definition.

The mix up of the two is mainly encouraged by weak, timid people who are afraid to use the word 'sex' because 'eww sex is icky', or loud, stupid people who decide to speak on topics authoritatively without any knowledge about the usage of the words by psychologists, anthropologists, the WHO, the FDA, the UN, the EU, etc.

That's something I don't think I'll ever have the funds to do, unfortunately. I also can't deny that abusing the fact that I have a more so female looking body has its set of perks, but a lot of the time I also hate the attention I get. Here's the problem: even if these 'nongenders' can be found within transgendered folk who actually have dysphoria, they're going to be such a marginalization of a marginalization of people that they'll still be outnumbered by the transtrenders (i.e. attention seeking teenage shits who think they can make a quick buck off of pretending not to be gendered, usually to try and shoulder their real problems) regardless. So they'll be subject to assumption. And frankly, yes, if you actually think that's what you are, and you have dysphoria, fine, but if you get spiny about pronoun choices or whatever the hell, then I'm going to think you're annoying.

Moreover, I still have yet to see serious validation of any of these by any medical community, colleges and universities obsessive compulsive 'safe spacing' doesn't count. the whole 'n0nbinary' trend blew up around the beginning of the 2010s at the absolute earliest, but before then was extremely unheard of. Likewise, the amount of teenagers claiming to be so multiplied exponentially from thereon out. There's a correlation between the two whether people want to admit it or not.

Gender and sexuality have become 'labels' nowadays that people attach to themselves in attempt to supplement actual personalities. To me, that's bothersome. I have been bisexual for awhile, but I've honestly never thought of it as being more than just what i am. Like I don't give a shit what people think about my sexuailty and I won't be apprehensive if they assume I'm either gay or straight instead. I don't give a shit. An easy way to tell the reals from the fakes is to differentiate between who's the oversensitive wuss and who can shrug it off.

If anything, the idea that one doesn't identify with a binary is almost as binarist as you can get, relying more on the assumption that gender stereotypes are defining of a person's gender. Girls can act 'boyish', and guys can act 'girlish' without needing to pretend to alter how they identify with their gender? I wear baggy t-shirts and sometimes go out in very little makeup with ratty hair, but that doesn't make me any less of a girl, know what I'm saying? I find it pretty insulting, actually. It's pretty regressive that a society that not that long ago was claiming 'we defy gender roles', is now so strictly trying to cement them in the name of special snowflake entitlement.

All this is coming from a reformed, ex 'genderfluid' tumblr user. Even if it is more than a trend to a very, very select set of people, a percentage of a percentage of a percentage of the population, nonetheless, there is no denying that in recent years lgbtq identities have been 'accessorized' by people as labels in a pretty gross way.

On another pole, tumblr & other online communities also have a habit of accessorizing things like autism, mental illness, race, and whatever grants them 'oppression points', all while actual people suffer the stigmatic response created by fakers. And people wonder why I'm mad.

If with a female looking body you literally have to dissociate from yourself just to get through the day then you might be a bit dysphoric.
