| Beck Mongolian Chop Squad doesn't exactly dub the songs but they re-recorded them with the English voice actors. And yes, they are way better in the re-recordings because it's actually native English speakers singing. Original Dub version |

| Because it's harder to find people who can both voice act AND have a talent for singing. With the exception of the English dubbed songs in BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad which are amazing, when you try to make a VA sing the results are....not pretty most of the time. That and differences in languages often make the song sound awkward and unnatural in another language. I know music rights (opening, ending, and insert songs) are also expensive and usually must be licensed separately from the anime also, by dealing with the record company. I wonder if they have to pay more if they want to create a cover of the song(s) in another language? If so, that might also be a factor. |

| I'm not a dub watcher, but I believe there's also the question of song rights. Sometimes the dubbing companies can't get the rights to change a certain song. (I heard a panel in which the dub producers of Sailormoon Crystal talked about how pleased they were to have been able to get the rights to do so.) |

| The Japanese language is structured in a very different way and naturally it's quite difficult to translate a song from Japanese to English without losing most of the meaning or sounding super cringy. It may actually be easier to just record a new song, but that's a bit difficult too so it's best just to leave it alone. In Haruhi they did translate the one insert song. In K-On! there was a bit of a disconnect since the concerts are in Japanese but when the girls sing their own songs casually they use the English lyrics. Love Live! would be a bit odd with all English songs and it would be also more expensive to have to rewrite all of the songs to work in English and record them with English singers since a lot of voice actors can't sing. |

| For one of several reasons: 1) Dubbing songs may take more time money, and talent than is available for a given project. Though many dub VAs do have experience with theater and musicals, and can sing reasonably well if given the chance. 2) Technical barriers -- if insert songs are on the "music and effects" audio track instead of the vocal track, they can't be dubbed. 3) Licensing issues -- Japanese music labels may want their songs exposed to a wider audience, especially with singing-based shows like Love Live. Funimation's Guilty Crown discs even have a disclaimer saying that the insert songs were left undubbed at the request of the licensor. |
