Can't believe we are 43 episodes deep already. This journey has been a very weird one. Lots of ups lots of down.
I was wondering what everyone is thinking of super so far?
Personally I feel like it has been a let down.
I'm watching DBZ Kai and this just doesn't compare remotely to that.
As of right now I have to give this anime of DBS a rating of 3/10
I'm not really invested in any of the characters besides Vegeta and to a lesser extent Goku.
This feels more like a slice of life anime a lot of times.
What do you rate super so far?

Currently at a 5 for me.
Ressurection of F and Beerus saga were incredibly average, and the animation was really bad/average at best most of the time. The latest tournament arc started out interesting, got meh, then became quite good with the Goku vs Hit fight. The few episodes after that has been quite solid overall, and I'll probably increase the rating if they keep up making some good episodes like those from now on.

It'd be poisonous for me to compare a 2015 made Dragon Ball series to the old Dragon Ball franchise from two centuries ago. So I just take it as it is and wont compare it to the great journey I had as kid, ignoring the nostalgia fact which would make me hate every single new DB stuff.
7/10 to me

As of rn 2/10 No clue why they re-did the first two movies they act like DB fans haven't already seen the movies or wouldn't go out of their way too see them and I doubt it would matter for kids or people not familiar with the series since the legacy of DB is practically un-avoidable, But I came back for the tournament arc which was awful. Not only did Toriyama feel the need to remind us that Goku and Vegeta are practically Gods so much so they had to hold back on the other fighters which doesn't really add any sense of urgency(fitting considering their transformations) he introduced characters that got immediately smacked, I felt almost insulted like I was watching Goku and Vegeta punch pillows for 20 episodes with slight moderations in their hit power (i mean come on was there anything intimidating about the other dimension fighters that was interesting besides Hit looking sort of cool and his "power") Honestly GT was more thought out than this hot garbage that people only support because it has Toriyama's name on it

Honestly if I were writing DBS at this point I would make some unstoppable enemy from one of those other funky dimensions kill Goku and Vegeta so Gohan and the rest of the forgotten Z-fighters could train to avenge them, Revive the sense of urgency and have Gohan who imo was the best character/ most interesting in DBZ actually do something again also give Piccolo a new form or something cool he is just booming with potential

7 for now. I'm fairly sure it's going to get more enjoyable in time, and up to a 10. No doubts about it. Specially with the Blu Rays and the dubbing.

It doesn't feel like there are many fresh ideas in Dragon Ball Super.

Unfortunately, it feels like it doesn't even need to exist. I'm going to keep watching because I feel like I'm in it for the long haul but it certainly isn't anything fantastic by any stretch of the imagination.

At least the next arc seems interesting I guess.

5/10 Meaning it's currently worse than GT, which is a 6/10.

If it wasn't for the epic nostalgia boost that came from the final few eps of the tournament arc, it would probably be lower.

6 or 7 for me, but it could go up since the next few episodes look like they're going to be really fun. The first 2 arcs were mostly done better in the movies, where they had better production and pacing, but they did have some more personal bits added which were nice. The tournament was kinda lackluster. I'm curious where will Toriyama take this, but it looks like he'll end it on a high note. More original DB and less DBZ please.

8/10 for me. The first arc was boring, the second is better and the tournament was awesome. It's better than GT.

This series has a lot of potential.

I never thought the journey of the Dragon Ball universe could get any bigger. But just imagine if Akira Toriyama decided to have the Universes go to war with each other? Vegeta becomes the King of Universe 6 Sayains. Or what if Vegeta and Goku create a bond with the Militia and start training people in the way of Ki?

The series can go on forever with Goku and Vegeta aging slower than the other characters and create spin-off series for Krillin or Tenshinhan.

It'll never be as good as the origianl Z series, but the Dragonball series has reached a whole new level of Franchising. I give it 9/10.

With the first few episodes, I rated it a 7. It looked all right and had plenty of potential for awesome new story and characters.
Then we hit the disaster that was episode 5 and the episodes that followed it, making me drop it to a 6. Over the course of the Beerus and Frieza arcs, I lowered it further to a 5, then a 4.
Midway through the tournament arc, I even dropped it down to a 3, setting it on par with GT in my opinion.
The end of the tournament did have a few cool moments, so it's currently back at a 4 for me.

I highly doubt I'll end up ranking this show higher than a 5 when it's done and over, but we'll see. I expect it to float around 4 if it continues to go on like this.

This show is nothing compared to its prequel. It doesn't get any of the action right (okay, SSB + Kai Ken x10 was cool, but that's it). It makes all the characters go out-of-character, making them act like clowns and not how they're supposed to be like at all. The artwork is inconsistent and animation quality is below average. The story we've been getting so far has been nothing interesting, with the tournament arc hitting a new low. There's just nothing... good about it. It's painfully mediocre at the very best, and torture at its worst.

8/10.

Dragon Ball Super is still nowhere near as a masterpiece, but it's getting really good. Art, soundtrack, voice acting, everything is improving along with enjoyement. The show also has a lot of potential as tournament arc opened so many possibilities. Each universe with its own Gods and warriors.

Beerus motivating Goku to train just in case some time he would need help to fight the Gods of the other Universes. Idk, this is just awesome for me. Also Future Trunks is coming back. There are many interesting theories about what is the reason behind this. I can't help but wonder what Toriyama will bring.

I feel like the world isn't immersive enough. We've met so many new characters but I don't care about any of them.
The lack of danger in the series is also alarming. Sure these new characters can destroy things without trying but I feel like nothing bad is going to happen. Even when gohan got taken out by Frieza i didn't care. I knew he would be okay.
If they make future trunks story as tragic and awesome as DBZ future trunks then there is a chance of it saving super. So far tho. . . It's a fail.

Toriyama mentioned something about "Black Goku". There are theories that Goku turned evil in Trunks' timeline and that is why Future Trunks is coming back - to kill Goku.

But that's just a theory.

The first two arcs were dragged out movie versions, the tournament arc disappointed me on a whole new level and the art and animation is worse than 30 years ago. The only good thing is the nostalgia and Beerus-sama. 3/10

He came back to life and turned evil? Idk about that, I'm hoping for another universe or something.

He might be in control of Demigra's powers. If you played Xenoverse you know what I'm talking about. Some people assume that Toriyama might go Xenoverse's path. There is design for Future Trunks made by Toriyama and it looks very similar to Xenoverse Trunks'.

It is possible that we will see Demigra in Dragon Ball Super, although I wish the show would choose a different path. Less excitement for me since I know all the story and overall it would be pretty disappointing if Dragon Ball Super would be built from 2 movies + a video game.
Never saw any theory with Super becoming similar to XV, and actually, I wouldn't mind if Super is going to introduce concepts of XV (like the Demons & Kai of Time) but I agree it should choose a different path. Plus if Toriyama were to use XV as a template then it'd sorta ruin the game. And I'd be very gutted if the only original content was the tournament.

Between 6 and 7 for me.

It doesn't feel the same as the original DB/z show, but it's got enough new concepts and jokes to keep me interested.

I don't really like giving numerical values to such subjective things, but I'd say it's a 7, not for production values, but from overall enjoyment I get from it.

Objectively it would be a lot lower not just because of the animation (which at this point I don't care all that much. Years watching Precure and Saint Seiya made me numb to Toei's quality), but because those first two horrendous cours retelling the movies have irremediably hurt the series. Usually when people ask me if Super is worth watching I tell them to watch the two movies, if like then proceed to Super from episode 28 onwards, checking the movie remake arcs only if they're really curious about the differences.

That said I do like the comedy, new characters and concepts introduced. The Tournament arc managed to keep me interested and had two pretty good episodes with Vegeta vs Cabba and Goku vs Hit.
It won't be as good as DB or DBZ, but honestly I was never expecting it to be. This is a much older Toriyama and a much worse Toei (and Toei wasn't a good Studio even back then, they had the good fortune to have some amazing people working there at the time).
To me it is already better than DBGT because to me GT always lacked Soul. Long before I fully understood it was done with no involvement from the original maker it already felt very off to me. GT does have pretty good production values though, it is the best looking Dragon Ball. But in the end I don't really watch DB for the artstyle, it's because of it's charisma, it's heart. And that Super does have, though sometimes it doesn't quite shine through Toei's messy production.

This pretty much sums up my opinion of Dragon Ball Super. It's definitely not a masterpiece, but it's still quite enjoyable with the concepts and characters. I started watching it without any expectations and so far it's been surprisingly entertaining, to me at least :P
