For what anime does the 3 (or more) episode rule count the most in your opinion?

Got this topic from reddit.

For the people who don't know what the 3 (or more) episode rule is. It basically means that you should watch atleast 3 episodes of an anime before rating/judging/dropping it. I personally don't give a shit about this rule, but I know many people try to follow it.

Also state the reason why it does, this way we prevent this thread from becoming a simple listing thread :D

My choice would be one of the obvious ones: Madoka Magica episode 3.

None, the rule is crap by itself. Plenty of shows that started out shitty but became good/great later on. If I were to say one, I would go with any 13 ep anime, simply because that is already about 1/4 the show, and if you still aren't hooked by then, you probably won't like it later on.

That rule is crap, I use the 3 second rule where you look at the cover, look at the studio and director and the tags and then you decide if you're going to watch or not.

For me personally, I rate depending upon how many episodes there are and compare to how many episodes I am currently on.
I usually try to go at least half way before I rate, or a quarter of the way if it is a longer running series.
I have dropped shows after only the first episode (school rumble, black butler, some others), but I didn't rate them.

Although, I don't blame people who follow this rule, but for me it all depends.

Oretachi ni Tsubasa wa Nai.

Although in this case it's the 4-episode rule, because the first 3 episodes are pure torture. Disjoint scenes, almost like a stream-of-consciousness narrative with no semblance of order or plot. It literally takes 4 episodes to find out what the show is actually about, and at that point everything you've been watching suddenly begins to make sense. Once you've watched 4 episodes, you can finally make an informed decision about whether to continue or not.

You must follow the rule OP, and you will secure your position as "Elitists" in anime community. XD

It's a stupid rule. The number varies from show to show. Anyone who needs 3 episodes to figure out what kind of show for example (since I dropped both halfway through episode 1) Upotte or Rail Wars are, isn't the brightest imo.
I probably regret this post by now.

Hmm personally I can't really judge or rate something I haven't finished completely, be it a book, anime or anything else.

I typically decide whether or not to drop something within the first episode. Sometimes I'll decide to drop something before completing the first episode but will finish the episode so I can say I tried (Kiss x Sis is an example of this). I know the first three episodes may have taken years to be released, but it just wasn't in my taste.

I don-t pay it much mind but I do try to watch more than the first episode. That said, typically if I don't get pulled in by the first episode then the second or third just irritate me more. Then again it sometimes takes me half a dozen episodes to realize that the anime is not going to get more exciting.

I tend to rate at the end of anime (unless tge few cases of it being dropped). I don't have rule but I don't tend to leave animes I got to their three episode.there's only one I did leave on their third episode except for those in my dropped

those are the ones i generally drop
which mostly consist of crappy genericecchi
