To realise that your meaning and purpose is gone, is the worst thing that can happen to you. As long as you have a purpose, you can comfort yourself with it, whatever happens to you. Without it, the suffering life offers you won't be worth it.
We force on people purposes. That is not necessarily wrong nor bad, it can be good to give someone a purpose which will give them a sense of meaning. Parents do this, society do this. But if the person in question at one point realise he or she won't be able to fulfil this purpose, they will begin to question themselves and life, and become depressed. This is when you are in an existential crisis.

I don't advocate suicide, but I am against the shaming of it. I've been to a funural of someone who commited suicide, and there wasn't many people there, or who seemed to be left in despair because of his choice. It feels so sad to admit, that it might have been a rational choice for him.

If someone wants to die, he or she has no duty to live selflessly so that you can be happy without feeling any guilt. The burden is on you, if you want someone to live, then you will have to work for it.

It's their choice. If they don't have anything to live for, then they can go ahead and do it. I wouldn't know how absolute despair feels since I've been living a good life and I always find that life has something more to offer so I can't relate or stop them.

Suicide is an action that is both unnecessary and extreme. Generally, its considered because people are depressed as hell and/or life has someone really down. The thing is, suicide also prevents people from getting out of that downer part of life. Things can and often do get better. One just has to push through, no matter how hard it is.

I've actually attempted suicide a few times in the past and have been in a fairly bad bout of depression for the past year. I was wrong to attempt such and I don't encourage anyone to try, but from experience its pretty hellish to feel like shit all the time. But you've just gotta keep moving. Find things to take your mind off things. Enjoy yourself.

Well I have tired and thought about it many times.
I can understand why people want to do it. Life is hard and having to work at it and feelings like you have not done anything, makes you think. It seems like people end up being famous overnight, but they worked hard at it too.

The thought of killing myself sounds like a relief from all the stress and pain but i have panic attack whenever i have deep thoughts of death. I even have to be careful as i'm writing this. I'm not going to do it anytime soon and anyone who wants to do it, Please don't. Your wasting more time you could have gone out and done something.

Most people don't and won't ever take this seriously. Life is not always perfect, some people don't ever see a friendly face in their entire lifes.
People who haven't been close to a case of this have no right to judge suicide.
Is it weak? I don't think so, I think people who actually did comit suicide had to put more strength to escape a miserable life than to just go on with it.
But it is so sad. To think that someone out there didn't have a hand to pull them off the edge. To think that just a word could have changed their minds. If someone around you does ever comit suicide, think of what you could have done to save them. Just a smile, a hug, maybe more than that, but is it so much to ask for?
Please, live your lifes, this world can be so dark, I know that, but it can also be the most beautiful thing.
And don't turn your face when you see people suffering. Try to help if you can. If you were that person you would like someone to help you too.
To all of those who did comit suicide, rest in peace. To those who knew them and loved them, I'm trully sorry, I wish I could have helped.
Don't joke about suicide, it's not funny, it's very serious.

It's really sad and unfortunate that someone no longer has the will to live. I personally feel that suicide shouldn't be encouraged but if living is causing a person more suffering then it's best for them to end it on their own terms.

Suicide is cowardly if, frankly, you don't care about anyone around you or they of you. Suicide is difficult, if you do care about the people around you and know how much they care of you.
Regardless, suicide can easily be considered selfish and is often a permanent solution to a temporary problem, and in my opinion, never the way to go
If you don't like how your life is, do something about it. Make a drastic change in your life.

That's what make purposes so tricky. We need them, and to give someone a purpose isn't bad, in fact it may be necessary. For most people, this won't be a problem, but for the very few, purposes may be what lead them to commit suicide.

One of Nietsche's most famous quotes is "God is dead". Many people missunderstand this quote.
The point is, the price we had to pay for our secular society, is that our lives will be meaningless, unless we create our own meaning in life, and give up our christian concepts of morality as some objective truth, to create our own. This is easier said then done. We had to sacrifice our comfort about heaven and all, and start to focus on making a heaven on Earth, now while we are still alive.
Still, society has not really come up with any conclusion yet.

If the person contemplating it has tried everything and gotten professional help, then it's not my place to convince them otherwise. I mean, it's unfortunate and a huge waste, but if someone's irrevocably miserable, forcing them to live seems cruel to me. The same goes for a person with a terminal illness.

Suicide is not cowardice. Suicide is often preceded by depression. Depression blurs your mind and your thoughts, it makes you feel worthless and useless. Depression is Hell. If you have not experienced depression, you have no rights of judging it. I obviously do not approve suicide, I think there will always be a solution and that things will eventually get better. I don't like seeing people sh*t on suicide or depression when they don't even know what it feels like. Just know that no matter how bad your life might get, you will always end up finding your way out of it. Good luck to everyone suffering from depression or having suicide thoughts, I truly believe that you can get through this.

I have mixed feelings about suicide. My father tried to kill himself twice while I was a young child. I didn't find this out until I was 18, from my mom who finally told me the real reason she divorced my dad. I was livid that he would try that at home, with me and my little brother and sister there. I was appalled that he would have left us to find his head blasted off and let us lead a life to follow that.

Here's the kicker though - from the age of 14 to 23 I had many misdiagnosed mental illnesses, starting from major depressive disorder, then to borderline personality disorder, then to general anxiety disorder. No antidepressants worked. Finally this year, 6 months before I turned 24, I was put on lithium for bipolar disorder, and it has changed my life. From those years of 14-23, I had been very suicidal at times, when I was going through the depression side of my bipolar. I tried once, by overdosing.

It's funny how one can feel suicidal so long, then also loathe the idea of it at a different point in their life. Ultimately, I think you should judge your situation wisely. Don't kill yourself if you decide to have a family. If you feel suicidal, don't marry your significant other...don't get anyone pregnant.

The only issue with such clinics is that they would open barriers for vast medical malpractice justified under the law. There are already numerous incidents regarding poor hospital practices, including intentional breaches to the hippocratic oath, and appending euthanasia-specific clinics onto our already existing system would only serve to augment to venues for such medical malpractice.

Thought, in premise, I tend to agree.
It's natural for a person to deny he's a failure as a human being. That's why he searches for somebody who is more miserable than himself. That's why so much animosity exists on the internet. Those who aren't able to find a more miserable person, turn to the internet and call other people losers, even though they've never met. Just to make themselves feel superior. isn't that pathetic? There's a sense of security that comes from speaking badly of someone else. But that isn't true salvation. — Tatsuhiro Satou

Born under a bad star, I guess? Some people live long, prosperous, happy lives even though they didn't deserve any of it, some people are wonderful folk who die alone and depressed. Possibilities are what they are and if the person had to be the sort that would off themselves, well, it's unfortunate, but not much else could be done. Just born under a bad star.
