I just switched to a new ISP that does the Six Strikes thing in the US. On one hand, I really want to make use of the much faster speeds my ISP provides, but I also don't want to risk a threat of termination of service.

I mostly use sites like BakaBT and AnimeBytes which require a certain ratio. Based on the older threads on here, it seems like I'd be relatively OK if just downloading and not seeding, but that's not really an option with those kinds of sites. I also know that anime tends to be a niche market where torrenting is concerned (it doesn't attract the same attention that snatching Game of Thrones or the latest movies do), and the only significant incident was the Funimation 1337 thing.

(I also don't have enough money left for a VPN or seedbox since my new plan costs a bit more.)

So generally speaking, how safe is it to SEED anime torrents, particularly on private trackers like BBT or AB? Is it something I should take more steps to prevent getting caught, or am I just being overly pedantic and this is a non-issue that I don't need to worry about?

I wouldn't worry about it. Pretty much everything saying that you will get in trouble for anything to do with pirating is propaganda to stop you from pirating. In reality, nobody has the time or resources to review source data on millions of people's personal computers to find out who's pirating and punish them for it. It's just scare-tactics. Pirate away, and if you're really worried about it, use a proxy.

Sometimes ISPs will send automated warnings about pirating based off of download/upload rates. Your only issue here is with the ISPs and not the law. This is why I usually only seed 2-1, as in, for every download, I seed it for twice it's file size, and then stop seeding. Avoids ISP issues.

You're not likely to get caught unless you've been seeding a file for like a year, lol

Plus Japan hasn't made any real efforts to crack down on pirating animu

Especially with anime they don't bother much so it's quite rare for them to bother about you seedng some anime series. Especially sites like BBT that don't even have anything license in the US are completely safe.

Depends where you are, I suppose. My ISP doesn't give a crap, even though I download like crazy and seed as long as I want, but the US is pretty much the Copyright Empire's HQ, so I might be more difficult there.

Read the terms and usage policy of your ISP. If you see "no torrents allowed", then you're not good to go. Otherwise, proceed as you normally do like the rest of the countries in the world.

This might help you though, I'm not sure: http://torrentinvites.org/f23/banned-countries-private-trackers-sorted-country-64369/
