After finishing Steins;Gate, I came across on the web, that a new sequel was announced a few days ago. Apparently the plot is about kurisu being trapped in a world and okabe has to save her.

New characters will be introduced in the sequel and Okabe has a new look.

WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK?! (LOOKS PRETTY SICK)

I was sooo excited when I heard about it 2 days ago, and I still am... But as I think more and more about it, I just get increasingly worried that it'll disappoint me. I can only hope the same people are behind both the VN and the anime as before and trust them to work their magic once again.

Is this really a sequel? I feel like they wrapped things up well enough in the tv series. Unless I'm missing something big here, I hope this isn't just senseless milking.

It will be a different world-line, the Beta world-line, in which Kurisu most likely stays dead.

I never expected to see a Steins; Gate sequel , and now that it is announced i don't know what to think .

On one hand i am excited for more Steins; Gate , on the other i am worried that someone somewhere is going to screw this up . Either way i will be looking forward to it with a grain of skepticism .

Wait, am I missing something? Didn't Okabe save her in exactly the Beta world-line?

In the beta world line, Kurisu gets killed during the conference in S;G episode 1, and Mayuri lives. In the last episode, Okabe has to go from beta to the Steins Gate world line in order to save her.

That takes place in the Steins;Gate worldline, with a divergence number of 1.048596.

Steins;Gate Zero will take place on a completely different worldline in the Beta attractor field, in which Okabe fails to save Kurisu.

Not exactly a sequel per say, more like a spinoff.
Behold! The way is clear! We're free! I, the mad scientist, Hououin Kyouma, have triumphed under a twofold assault, from SERN and the Organization, by twisting the very fundamentals of time and space! The world as we know it has been put to rights, and a future of chaos awaits us. This, my friends, is the choice of Steins;Gate!

Well Okabe looks on that character art like he lost will to live.
And that suit.
It doesn't fit him.
Now the only thing we can do is wait for more information, but I don't think it will be soon.
But damn I'm waiting for Suzuha like hell.

This is actually the Beta line, what that means is basically "What if Okabe NEVER went went through time"

The reason why okabe looks "normal"? Is because he is dealing with all the shit is other self did that he can see and dream but in fragments but is in denial. As such he is trying to cope with everything by being "normal"

I like this because it's a huge what if Okabe didn't have Kurisu there to help him keep his shit together...

I'm currently reading the manga and i do like where this is headed, can't wait. I just hope they also port the VN to the vita :D

so what is this going to be about? I've only seen the series so i don't know anything about the LN

but how exactly can they do anything if kurisu is dead? Isn't she the one who built the time leap machine?

and if he doesnt have to chose between Mayuri and her then he doesn't need to get to the other world line right?

What I'm confused about is, why is Suzuha here? Is this setting in the assumption that this is the loop where Okabe didn't send the mail from the future to the past? Does that mean he's fucked up once already?

Not quite...but that may be it, i think it was under the pretense that she came back to have him go into the past but he wouldnt do it in the first place. Either that or like you said he already fucked up once. I think it is the former though because after he fucks up he gets a message from his future self and since this story is aabout that self i dont think he even did the first fuck up.

I'm on the fence with this one. Steins;Gate is one of my favourite anime, and I think it managed to wrap everything up nicely. It wasn't without flaws, but I can't find anything particularly problematic about it. Additional movies and series really seem like milking the franchise.

I'm still going to watch it. Who knows? It might turn out to be a good story, but I'm certainly skeptical, and I won't place any expectations. The movie was already somewhat disappointing. It wasn't bad, but it was quite obviously for the sake of expanding the franchise because it turned out popular. Well, that's my impression of it.

I don't necessarily blame them though. They want to make more money, and they have the opportunity to do so.

Steins;Gate(Anime) Is based on a visual novel of the same name.
The anime is based on the Perfect True ending route.
I don't feel that Steins;Gate 0 as an attempt to milk the franchise.
This is because SG0 will be the first "Real" sequel unlike previous spinnoffs (SG:Linear Bounded Phenogram and SG:Darling of Loving Vows)

I'm aware of that, but I'm still skeptical and feel that the franchise is being milked. I will be very happy if I'm mistaken.

Well this should be a lot better than the movie since this actually has a premise from the VN and Anime and just expands on it...personally i REALLY wanted to know how

All this is answered in the sequel. Which is different from the whole "what happens after Steins;Gate line" which was the movie.

Ahh, these are actually some pretty good questions. Although I didn't actually express it in my posts, I am pretty excited about SG0 despite what I said above.

I think I'm mostly worried of being disappointed, because of previous experiences with franchise expansion/sequel/spin-off etc. but I should probably have a little more faith in the VN (and consequently the adaptation). It is written by the SG crew after all, no?

Not sure who wrote it, but i'm reading the Manga atm, and i'm enjoying it SO FAR, but i doubt we are anywhere near the conclusion of it atm so i won't really know how good it really is until then.

I am honestly like how anime based off visual novels can end, but they could give you more. Stein;Gate Zero seems more like Fate/Stay Night, and Fate/Stay Night (UBW) TV, except with less, money milking because the entire Fate/Stay Night is just a huge money maker. At least they did not make a movie then make a tv series by the same name, right. So, my thoughts are that yes, this an attempt to make money, but I cannot disagree with more Steins;Gate. Also Daru, did you go to the gym?

This reminds me of one of the cds that were brought out as well.

A story told by Mayuri how she was at first afraid to knock some sense into Okabe, after he had failed to save Kurisu in the beta world line. After that, Okabe drops the whole evil scientist act, goes to uni, and turns into a 'normal'.

Curious if this is going to be a take on that, or a completely different story.

What?...i don't quite understand what you mean...literally by your point, everything fate related is money milk and any adaptation from anything is money milk.

And you are wrong about FSN, what happened was this, the F/SN came out, then later the same studio DEEN decided to put out the Movie that was just fanservice to VN fans...then ufo did KnK which everyone liked...they then did F/Z...everyone liked, so they decided to adapt both HF and UBW route from the VN because they "respected" deens version of the "Fate" route in the original series.

Literally everything could be a money milk then.

I personally think that Steins;Gate was a full 9.8 out of 10. Only thing really holding it back was the slow pacing but it fully delivered and because I felt that the show in general was unexpected. Now though...I think this sequel will be good but I don't think it can outdo its predecessor.

I am sorry, I did not mean to come a cross in such a way, I love F/SN. I am saying that they are making a movie based off of a VN story route, and then making a series of it. This is money milking as, just a series, or movie would of fulfilled its purpose. They respect studio Deen's adaption of the "Fate" route, but did not of the UBW route, even I personally like the movie just as much as I like the series of UBW. I just said that F/SN is a huge money maker, I did not say anything of it was bad. Moreover, I definitely did not say anything with an adaption was money milking, I am saying if something has 6, or 7 adaptions it is probably milking money. Yeah, I made that post at 6 in the morning my time so, I meant the movie rather than Studio Deen's adaption.

Steins;Gate Zero is still money milking -very slightly as, it definitely should- off of Steins;Gate's success, but it is trying to stay completely away from looking exactly the same. This is why I am looking forward too this show.

I love Steins;Gate's characters so, just shut up and take my money. I still wonder how this will play out as, I have never played the VN of Steins;Gate.
