Is it OK to cancel/postpone/remove episodes or merchandise because some people get offended?

So the third episode of Ansatsu Kyoushitsu (Assassination Classroom), was put on hiatus on Japanese television because the theme of the episode was too similar to the current ISIS hostage situation involving 2 Japanese men. After watching the episode myself, I saw no Japanese hostages tied up and on their knees being threatened to be killed by an Islamic extremist, nor was there any ransom mentioned anywhere or political messages. The only thing in the episode was a character trying to kill a glorified octopus with a rubber knife. Needless to say, the episode is still widely available but is now harder to watch in Japan.

Point being, this isn't the first time an anime episode has been pulled or delayed for being too similar to current events, such as the old Pokemon episode that depicted Tentacruel (another Octopus thing, I'm seeing a trend) tearing down a skyscraper, which was pulled because 9/11 had just happened. But this is in CD because this applies to almost everything that get's released to the public in general. Be it a racy ad, or action figures in Toys R Us, should companies bow to the small outcry of a handful of people who probably get offended at everything anyway? Sometimes there isn't even an outcry and things get cancelled anyway, such as the recent North Korea fiasco, and the subsequent North Korea hollywood movie that got cancelled afterwards (That's not The Interview).

TL;DR
Sure you might want to protect the company image or respect victims if any, but bowing to the demands of soccer moms on their periods or extremely religious people just doesn't seem like the right move to me, especially when you're bowing to the demands of terrorists (I'm looking at you major cinema chains). I think this kind of action should only be taken when something can or is actually harming consumers/customers/viewers, such as lead painting on children's toys or episodes of shows capable of giving children seizures, in this case called recalls. For any other reasons, you're kind of just demeaning yourselves, or you can be smart like Carls Jr. and not give a f*** about what anyone says about your perfectly tame advertisements.
But what are you guy's thoughts on this?
Are you for the pulling of said episodes for said reasons, or do they need better reasons? Would there need to be hundreds of thousands of people up in arms if you were in charge to take action, or would your mind blow if you received just one angry letter? Is there somewhere you draw the line, or would you ride the free publicity and advertising until the fat lady sings?

See what I did there?

Depends on who has access to it.
I think people just take things too heart too much. I understand Delaying it but cancelling it altogether is kind of stupid. If its very inappropriate and is a children's item I would agree to pull it.

People that don't want to see something can easily avoid it as well. If its not easily avoided like a commercial that I understand.

It was delayed on air or something I forget. Like the new Pokemon X Y episode that was pulled off the air for pertaining to the ocean when that one Korean ship sank a while ago. Streaming sites couldn't even get until months later.

Ansatsu Kyoushitsu's postponement was unwarranted and shows that TV stations will bow down to monsters instead of doing the right thing and giving them the middle finger and airing it all over Japan.

I think it should just have a warning before an episode and postpone for a short time for new things because less people will watch anywau so its not so much offending its just people dont want to see certain things sometimes.

They do it more often than not, even if it doesn't pertain to Japan. Not sure if that's respectable, or pitiful...

Is it because hurt feelings or against moral standards?

If the former, absolutely never. If the latter, depends on the content itself and how it's handled.

In the vast majority of cases, no.

This is just like when they pulled the Psycho-Pass episode because of those students. They're pulling this episode because they don't want to be looked down upon for showing similar content (students using knives to kill their teacher), and to be considerate of the families being affected. It's less about offending as it is contributing to the situation.

At the very end of a rant, make sure to always

@ Topic - getting offended is a privilege. People who spend all of their time connecting the dots like this are insane and unable to distinguish fantasy from reality. So much for all of that "it's not real" bullshit that people always preach in an attempt to look cool for not taking fiction seriously.

Changing it like OreImo is a no.

Delay like #NiceBoat is acceptable

If they remove a part, they better explain what they remove and make sure story continues well.

Stuff like this happens everywhere. After 9/11 every film and tv show for years actively tried NOT to show buildings collapsing. It's just common practice. The ones that get offended by things are the ones that scream the loudest, so the best thing to do without gaining unneeded attention is to just get it over with and bend to their will.

Unless you were legit showing a movie or something with planes crashing into the towers after 9/11, I see no reason why anything would warrant anything being cancelled or postponed. Anything else you really have to skewer your imagination to relate it to 9/11 and it's the same idea with the delay of the Assassination Classroom episode.

And on another note, I'm really surprised the majority of people voted for the evil, dank option lelz. Even I'm not that hardcore.
